  1. Hi ,

Got a IS200, 105K mile. Has been totally reliable until today.

Turned ignition, engine started up briefly and then died.

Subsequent starting of the starter motor does not fire up the engine.

It has been wet but no more than usual UK weather.

    No water under the bonnet.

Spark plugs are about two year old.

Electrics seem okay, no management light.

    Any ideas anyone?

    TIA

  2. Got a quote from Jems

    1. Full service: £209.99

    2. Cambelt change: £250

    3. Tensioner change: £65 (if required)

    4: Idler change: £55(if required)

    5. Front brake disc/pads: £256.54

    6: Rear brake disc/pads: 241.60

inclusive of parts, labour and VAT!

Lexus Twickenham quoted £570inc for full service and just cambelt change.

    Still loadsa money.. :whistling:

I hadn't realised that JEMS price for the cambelt change didn't include the tensioner and idler. I think it's worth getting them both changed in any case tbh.

If you do use JEMS I'd be interested to know what you thought of them as I'm planning to use them in August for my 60k service and cambelt change.

Got car back from JEM servicing and timing belt change - needed tensioner and idler replacing as well. Car running a lot better - possible better mpg. They also returned the car washed inside and out.

Discs and pads (all round) is expensive IMHO. Why don't you buy Mintex discs/pads from ebay/local motor factors and change them yourself? Otherwise take the parts you have bought to a garage and just pay the garage the labour for fitting the parts.

Yes, am thinking of getting the service/cambelt changed by the pros and doing the brakes myself - last time I got my hands this dirty was changing disc, pads and calipers on my then (10+ yrs ago) Nova 1.4 SR. How long would the job take, as I need to do the job on a public road?

  4. Hi guys

Got this quote from a local garage (I use for MOTs), is it a good/value for money deal?

    Lexus IS200 Sport 2002, 105K milage:

    1. Full service estimated @ £150 inclusive of parts/filters, fluid,

    oils & labour

This price excludes iridium spark plug renewal - If the

plugs are to be renewed an additional £37.50 labour plus parts will

    be added.

    2. Cambelt (full) kit replacement - Labour 3hrs = £150 + parts @ £155

    3. Front brake disc & pads - Labour 1.5hrs = £75 + parts ( 2x £65

brake discs & £34.95 brake pads)

    4. Rear brake disc & pads - Labour 1.5hrs = £75 + parts ( 2x £50

brake discs & £29.95 brake pads)

(please note all prices exclude VAT)

    Thanks

    B

  5. Hi there,

Request for some help or suggestion as to what may be the problem.

I've just changed my spark plugs to IK20s and ensured that everything

is back together (I did disconnect the intake air temp sensor to take off

the air cleaner box). Engine started okay no misfiring BUT the Malfunction

    Indicator Lamp has come on.

Has anyone come across this before?

Should I do a ECU reset to clear errors?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

    Bluey70.

I would re-check the temp sensor connection to make sure that is OK. Failing that ECU re-set to see if that clears it.

It defo sounds like something has not been connected up properly.

I've reset ECU - now okay.

I realised that I started the engine before re-assembling the airbox and reconnecting the sensor

to check all was okay. Hence ECU correctly identified a sensor issue - dooh.

  7. Anymore decent games out for this yet? As miy Wii should finally arrive tomorrow. Also can you buy the points for the virtual console games off the console, like the 360 marketplace?

Whats the cheapest way to get obtain a second wii remote and nunchuck?

  8. :o

    That's a disgrace!

One thing I never get is that petrol is supposed to be a global commodity but the price changes 2 miles down the road never mind between countries - no wonder a lot of economists take the value of the Big Mac to work out how far your money will go in each country - at least they're the same price all over the country :o

I always tend to find that VPower gives the best economy, slightly better than Tesco's 99RON in my case anyway, that's also gonna be helped by the locations of the garages though, ie Shell is near the motorway and Tesco is a lot of town driving near me!

    Have you tried:

    http://www.petrolprices.com/

Tells you your nearest cheapest petrol prices.

  9. Hi all,

    I've had my IS200 sport (02 plate) since Nov 2006 and have been averageing around 280 - 290 ( ~22mpg)

on one full tank (filling up once orange LED comes on) of normal unleaded, general commuting 20 miles return

trip to work on A roads.

I've recently replace the grille with a sports grille and took the opportunity to reset my ECU. The first full tank

has returned 320 (24.3mpg) - woo hoo!! will monitoror anothe rtank then introduce a K&N air filter.

  10. I wonder if you are the lucky guy who picked up the IS200 armrest on ebay a few weeks back? That's the only one I've seen available to buy lately.

For all those interested, it ONLY went for £189ish + P&P, for reference the group buy way back when was £190(?). What a bargain to whoever was the winner!

The nickname of the seller was "lexusedinburgh", was selling several other Lexus bits as well then.

    Hi there,

Yes - I was that very lucky guy :D

I've been looking out for an armrest since I got my IS200 back in Nov 2006.

Couldn't believe my luck winning that auction for a bnib item.

    Will post some picture up.

  11. Gutted for you mate! Some of the members on here havent had a lot of luck lately! Cant help you on the whitness front but you have my sympathy! Hope you get a positive result.

I don't think any witnesses will be coming forward. Been advised that it'll be my word against hers.

Crash damage not conclusive (glancing blow as I avoided her T boning me). Insurance will probably

judge hence a 50:50 responsibility :tsktsk:

Will be going to Lexus Twickenham to get repair quote for the bumber etc.

Just bought a new Sports Grille that I was looking forward to putting on at the weekend! :crying:

    Any insurance advice ????

  12. My tale of sorrow.

After months of searching for the right IS200 Sport and two months ownership

some stupid driver jumps a light and hits me. If I didn't brake, have ABS and put on hard right lock

she would have taken the whole wing off!

Did any happen to witness this on the uxbridge road ealing this morning 17/01/07 abou 08:40??

Damage: bumper almost sheared off with some tubes (washer system)hanging out. Metal bit off the

chassis to hold bumper and grille all bent.

    Boo hoo.
