  1. At most I get ~38 on the motorway, 31-33 combined.

It is the sport so not sure how the gear ratio affects it but at 60K my next job is to sort out the EGR Valve. Was yours done in warranty? If not, what did you pay if you dont mind me asking.

Mine is out of warranty so options are to clean, replace myself or nip into local garage.

Car has just had its 60K service at Lexus. Asked them to check the EGR valve but their records show it had a new one last June so they havent bothered. Dont think it covered many miles from then either! Guess I may have another problem or feature. iirc I did a reset with CC set at 70mph in 6th gear and struggled to get above 40MPG.

Wow, I haven't been on here for nearly 2 years and still the same threads on MPG.

The IS220 will never achieve the figure the Germans easily get so if thats the reason for purchase then don't. However if you want something that is well speced and not one of the herd then the IS is just up your street (but go for the auto petrol!!)

  2. To be fair, I would believe it with a 3 series. Even in my old 3 series (which was a 2001 E46, 136bhp version) I was STILL getting about 38 on the same town driving that the 220D is giving me 22 for.

And apparently, the fuel efficiency in the new ones is something else.

BUT - they don't look as good, and have nowhere near the spec levels for the same money. It's all just a pay off.

    Hello all

Not been on for a while but just thought I'd chuck my bit in. Had my E90 for 8 months now and covered 20k. I get high 40's around town and have seen 60.3 from a 200 mile motorway round trip with the cruse on 80mph!

No you don't get the toys with the BM but you don't get the rattles or rotting wheels either.

I still miss my Lexus but the BM is a much better all rounder!

  3. I AM WONDERING IF ANYBODY HAS HAD THIS FAULT BEFORE. MY IS 220 IS 3 MONTHS OLD AND I HAVNT HAD ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW. IF I PARK IT OVERNIGHT IN MY DRIVE AND COME TO UNLOCK THE CAR THE NEXT DAY WITH SMART ENTRY NOTHING HAPPENS, THE CAR WILL NOT UNLOCK EVEN WITH THE CONVENTIONAL BUTTONS ON THE FOB. THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE CAR IS THROUGH THE KEY SLOT AND THIS IN TURN ACTIVATES THE ALARM UNTIL YOU PRESS THE IGNITION BUTTON (MOST EMBARRASING).

MY LEXUS CENTRE SUGGESTS PARKING THE CAR IN ANOTHER LOCATION AS THE THINK THE LOCK SYSTEM IS BEING INTERFERED WITH BY NUMBER OF POSSIBLE CULPRITS, THE LIST INCLUDED PLASMA TVS, ELECTRIC GARAGE DOORS, LAPTOPS AND EVEN LOW ENERGY LIGHT BULBS. TO BE FAIR THEY HAVE AGREED TO CHANGE THE FREQUENCY OF THE LOCKING SYSTEM, BUT I AM UNSURE IF THIS WILL WORK, AND AM I REALLY EXPECTED NOT TO PARK THE CAR IN MY OWN DRIVE!!!!!!!????

    No need to shout!! :whistling:

There were posts on here 12 month ago with people having problems and it was linked back to Sky broadband wireless routers!!

  4. i really should just accept it but unless people keep on moaning its never going to get any better.

maybe an email to whatcar should be fired off today as it all getting me down a bit .... lovely car lexus but terrible engine and worse gearbox ... you got it wrong .

I wrote to Autocar & Whatcar without success, so don't hold your breath. The best bet would be to put something together en-masse & contact watchdog or the Guardian

Watchdog might be the way to go

look at what they did with the Vauxhall handbrake issue

and even took on Microsoft with the XBOX 360 warranty issue

and now Microsoft honor a 3 year warranty to everyone out of the box

and how much money did they have to give back at £85 a time for repairs to there

    faulty made unit.

where do you start with getting info together and people

    to protest to watchdog

as People power is the way to go.

But strange thing is it is not everyone that has the problems

but i will agree that they list the extra urban at 55mpg combined.

I bet you might just get that on a run from junc 1 on the M6 up to Glasgow

    with no traffic :whistling:

I didn't see anything like that no matter how slow and steady I drove with a/c off etc etc when I had mine!!

  6. The dealership is a franchise, as long as they sell cars LGB are not really interested. They always tell the customer to go back to the dealer and he has already got your money. I't only in extreme cases they will get involved.

I never got a promised response for my total brake failure on my first IS250, yes it moght have been the master cylinder ( but no fluid leaks anywhere ) but why / how could both circuits fail at the same time. The unit was supposed to be sent back to Japan for inspection, but if it was they never had the courtesy to inform me why it failed and this on a serious safety issue.

By the way I bought my latest Lexus from Leicester amd the sales side was fine, I haven't had the need to try the service / warranty and as I'm a distance away will be using my local dealer.

The sales side are just as bad. It was their job to make sure my car was fit for handover on purchase. They clearly didn't do this. They made promises to do things to compensate for the inconvenience and never followed them up. They failed to further check the car when it was handed back again. They lied and ripped me off with the car kit. They tried to rip me off to the value of a 100% mark up on a tow bar. The only guy to be trusted at Lexus Leicester is John Brown the finance director.

Lexus GB will certainly not be interested, I only ever received templated standard replies from them. Leicester are part of the Sytner group which I have to say are a million times better than the BMW dealership up the road from them!

  7. Thanks for the replies, thats cleared up th weight issue (I think Lexus need s to change their website as it does not state the word max for kerb weight)

The interior is deffo nicer than the BMW & i do spend alot of the time on the motorway so it could be good.

The fuel consumption bothers me as my current E90 running a tuning box returns 51 mpg constantly, I drive it hard as well.

I really cannot beleive that a Lexus gearbox can be so much of a mess up ! If the car is so slow in the first 2 gears& 6th cannot be pulled from 60 mph then why have they not changed the ratios to sort the problem out.

Do you know if any revisions are due to help drop the emmissions, or will a hybrid petrol be soon available?

I will go for a test drive, but from what i am reading about the fuel consumption & general drive train problems I will not get my hopes up.

There are alot of the new 3 series about , that is true but maybe its because it is just a great drive ! ( vastly under specced , overpriced)

    thanks

The problem with spending a lot of time on a motorway in the Lexus, is you are forever changing up & down the gears because of the bad gearing. Also 42mpg is very optimistic!

  8. Harry - nice one - 48.8 in an Auto diesel!!

On a run you should break 50mpg.

Question again - is it Efficient dynamics? I didn't think the auto 3 series was ED yet (5 series is with the new "electronic fly by wire joystick" auto)...that normally helps in town only...

PS - is it new? On tight engine that is very good indeed...

    Apparently it is?!?

    http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/efficient_dynamics/bc/homepage

It's an ex-demo with 2500m, Leather, Metallic, Bluetooth registered Jan 1st 2008 and paid £25k. So far so good, on the plus side it drives much better and the fuel econ is much, much better. On the down side, it's one of a million on the road and it's not as pretty to look at.

    You pays ya money..............................

Nice one - if it' the 177bhp (which it will be having been reg'd in january) then I'm sure it is - though I'd love to know how the stop/start works on an Auto...I'll ask next time go round to the "currently refurbishing Sytner dealership on the A563" for a nose...

    Sorry Jamboo

The start stop thing isn't available on auto's but the efficient dynamics is all sorts of different commercial gobble-di-gook!! Braking, steering etc etc

  10. Mine came back yesterday with a full Tank of fuel, a full valet etc...not had a chance to try it properly, but it showed 27.7mpg purely town driving on "Tank Average". The stereo memory is still there so I don't think that they have touched the ECU this time.

    Hi Jamboo

Thought I'd let you know how I'm doing with my new motor 1 week in. I've not actually had a long run on the motorway yet but 3 return trips to Grantham & I'm averaging 48.8mpg, which is a vast improvement on the 31 I was achieving at the end!

The last week of owning the IS was quite worrying as it began showing signs of breaking down again (serious turbo lag, juddering!) but it didn't. I must admit to laughing when I received the recall 2 days after it was collected!!

is that 48.8 on ur 320d?

jamboo: have they fitted the new vents? has it stopped any rattles?

    Yes & it's auto!

  12. After 26 months of ownership, the time has come to move on.

I have given Lexus finance notice of termination of my PCP and bought a 320d M Sport auto.

I will miss my IS but in the end the fuel consumption and useless 6th gear were just too much for the amount of miles I cover. Lexus Leicester have been fantastic though out and very supportive with the various issues the car has given.

I’ll also miss this message board and the interesting debates it has and would like to say thank you to the various members for their varied points of view.

Maybe when the hybrid IS is released............

    But until then cheers!!

  13. saw a 220d by the roadside with bonnet up and rac in attendance today.at the crossroads of the a50 and a46 in leicestershire,i would have stopped but i was on my way to the pub,it was 06 reg in cadoxton slate, sorry fella.

How strange is that!! Both times my car has gone in to limp home mode was on the a50 (Groby Rd) & a46 (outer ring)!

Is it that Leicester has it's own Bermuda triangle?

Drivers beware or just stay away from Leicester (it's a sh*te hole anyway!!) :shifty:

  14. My car hit 63k today during a 360mile round trip Leic to Norwich. 32.3mpg

    Nothing new then!

5 months 26 days to go!!

done that trip many times.mine has 47 for that trip.my previous golf gti 150 diesel did 50.something wrong with yours.are they going to do the same to yours as jamboos.

To be quite honest, I've given up! I have wasted so much time with my car being off the road for over 10 days with problems concerning mpg and limp home/5th Jet issues. IMHO it's a crap car and I wish I had never walked in the show room. But unhappily for me, I'm jammed in to a pcp and no matter how I try (bar paying £600+) I'm stuck with the car until September. To make matters worse the car will be worth less than its guaranteed future value so bye bye deposit.

To me Lexus should aim a little lower, rather than perfection just go for average!

i think you have had some bad luck, mine is nearing 40k and has been 100 per cent reliable.maybe back with the germans for you then.

    Roll on!!

  16. With a new 5th Injector, even 47-49 iss possible, but it dwindles on some cars as the miles come on...mine at best gives 39-40 mpg with 90% motorway runs.

I may be wrong, but you have only got about 20K up. Is that sufficient to justify this comment. I have over 40k in a shorter period and I have not noticed this deterioration. As for 39-40 mpg, I think that is acceptable. If I wanted absolute frugality I would have gone for something else. My actual economy is what my pre-purchase research had LED me to expect.

That will be much better than a IS200, but no where near what a diesel should be.

Where is it written in stone just "what a diesel should be." Who says?

Check out my poll - that doesn't lie. 17 of 38 voters have had fuel economy issues...

Your Poll is biased. For a poll to be credible the respondents should be randomly chosen.

It has already been pointed out in other threads here, that on a forum like this you are much more likely to get dissatisfied customers. So your poll is inherently biased from the start. Secondly, you actually encouraged dissatisfied members to vote. On March 7, you posted "Can you guys all please make sure you add your vote HERE if you haven't already?".

I have never seen you actively encourage satisfied owners to post.

Remember, there are lies, damn lies and statistics.

Independent websites like www.honestjohn.co.uk don't mention problems with fuel economy and that would reflect a much larger sample size and, in my opinion, be a much better reflection of the true picture.

I am sorry you appear to have got a bad car but I cannot let you extrapolate from that that all 200ds must be bad.

You have already posted that your experience is all that counts. Well, its not. To make generalisations about a model you need a much larger sample size

In Jamboo defence, I've done over 60k and in the dozens of times the car has been back to lexus Leicester, have driven lots of 220d and all have very simular mpg (30-33). There are now lots of people with bad mpg figures, I think I have only seen 2 from England but perhaps they all use Honestjohn!!! :shutit:

  17. It is so deceptiv. You can be driving at license killing speeds before you blink...

On topic - Been quoted £380 for the 20k at Leicester, minus discount for LOCGold. Boy that is expensive, especially when you look at what they actually do.

I just hope the brakes are OK...

PS - just called Cov - GULP £445incl Vat - though I was asked if they had seen the car before he quoted...to which I said No...

What do they think we're made of....? It's not a question of affordability, it's more that they really are taking you for a ride. And the threat on the threads of "..it'll lose £1k if you take it elsewhere..." has got to be an illegal practice...

I somehow don't see this car lasting another year in our household...

I think I got a result with my £65 per month for 30m = 9 services. Its interesting that BMW are offering servicing over 5 years/60000miles for £635. It makes £380 for one service a little steep!!

  18. Last post on this ;)

Did you ask them what fluids they are going to change? ( Only reason I ask is I have been down this route already with a different dealer ..... )

That is probably the crucial bit! The handbook/service book states what is required - and they should be doing only what's listed in there. If there stringing more stuff on then they are taking the fiss - especially when they start playing with your conscience WRT safety and all that.

Mine is due it's 20k soon, and I am dreading it. I'm just not used to paying so much in such short timescales. My previous luxusry cars were all variable, and I eeked out over 22000 twice in my Audi, and the family get >15500 in BM's before servicing.

It's the one part of Lexus ownership which is so far behind the times...and on area where the dealerships are coining it in.

Wasn't there a RAC report recently saying that variable servicing isn't a good thing due to the oil not being in a good state after 12 months and obviously drivers not regularly checking?

  19. Well since you paid (main dealer no doubt?) £258 to change just your pads, allbeit front and rear, that is one princely sum considering you could DIY the job and save [almost] £200. Sorry, but my sympathy for all your costs incurred this past week, Pheasant incident included, is tempered by this one fact.

I'm sorry I didn't realise this was the vintage beetle owners club! Change brake pads indeed! Get a life! :tsktsk:
