  1. Hi, I should have also mentioned that the price differs from buying it direct from Lexus GB and a Lexus dealer (dealer price can be cheaper). The price can also vary from Lexus dealer to dealer, so if you have a few Lexus dealers close to you, phone round. Also if you buy more than one year at a time, the price will be cheaper, but that's a hello of a lot of money to shell out in advance.

This is incorrect information. The warranty is the same price at all dealers. I can confirm this as i work for a Lexus dealer and the dealers make nothing out of selling the warranty only the person who sells it gets a few high street vouchers.

Definately go with the lexus warranty, i had a warranty with warranty direct and to be honest its not even worth wiping your arse with!!! I spend £450 on the warranty but found they really didnt cover anything and on top of this you have to pay 20% of all costs. Utter rubbish!!

  2. Hi guys,

As the title of this topic suggests, i think my nav computer has given up the ghost. I have a 2005 RX400h and haven't had any issues with the nav before. It went into lexus manchester for its 70k service about three weeks ago and less than a week ago it went into lexus manchester again for a wheel alignment as it was pulling to the left. Since then, i've had an error message on the screen saying, 'insert correct DVD' followed by some text in Japanese. I've also lost many options on the nav computer too.

I removed the nav disc, cleaned it, replaced it but to no avail. My brother and i then stripped the boot down disconnected the wires at the back of the unit, left it for half an hour and reconnected it...............black screen followed by the same error message.

I'm busy for the next few weeks, so ive sent an email to lexus manchester asking if they can collect the car from my residence and find out what the fault is.

I fear its going to need a new nav computer as i cant hear it spinning up and with my past experience with bmw nav computers i think i'm looking at about £1000 for a new one. Unlike bmw there isnt an abundance of nav computers on ebay either.

If anyone has any advice please reply. I will keep you guys posted............

Ok so lexus say the navigation computer is at fault. A replacement will cost £2800. i can no way afford that but i need navigation. Any ideas guys??? Obviously theres the tom tom route.

  4. JAZZY... get used to the poor consumption brother, mine WAS so poor it was the main reason I sold it.. Spent a small fortune in trying to sort it but a £55 tank would only give me 200miles, wouldn't make a difference whether I was pootling around town or on the motorway.

I have now gone over to the dark side (Audi A4 2.0 sport), my driving style hasn't changed one bit and to a £55 tank I'm now getting 400 miles.. That's what you should get in the Lex.. They are nice cars but AUDI A4 I find is soooooooo much nicer..

  5. Ok then, thanks for that. Will do that first thing in the morning.

Fookin' muppet lol. Looks good, but just doesn't serve its purpose! Typical :P

Also popped these in the engine bay today.....

    Thanks for looking,

bruv is that a trick question - it looks all good to me!!! nowt missing..

  6. Hi everyone,

I just can't beleive how some of the guys on the forum say they get 350-400 on a full tank. I think this is nothing short og divine intervention.

I drive like i'm driving HRH Queen Lizzie round & the very best I've ever got is 250 & thats motorway driving too!!!

The lex drinks like petrol's going outta fashion, more than any other 2.0 in its class in fact (apart from the jap t/c models of course)

I had a sticking caliper(s) - got those changed yesterday along with new discs/pads & lower ball joints. I'm hoping the caliper situation will help consumption but i'm not holding my breath.

I've checked my air filter all is good, another thing is that I can't beleive that changing plugs is whole heartedly responsible for poor consumption.

I hope you sort it out bruv as 14mpg is real bad. In fact its just 1mpg more than my brother's old bmw v12!!!

Can relate. I read that your 02 sensor should be changed every 20k miles anyway. Mines got 28k miles on the clock.

The other possibility is that in the last service, the work was undertaken by a garage that are not Lexus accredited, so the chances are that they fiddled something to break down later anyway. If there is one thing I have learned in being a car owner is- it is worth taking it to the specialists, bceause the job done improperly can cost you more in the long run and also to find a recommended dealership, not just the closest. There is no indication that the spark plugs have been changed in the service history and I know that they are supposed to last for 60k miles minimum.

Maybe I need to just step out in faith and take it to the Lexus garage. Anyone got any particular recommendations? I live in Watford, Herts. I'm considering Hatfield. :duh:

Bruv i'm not sure when the O2 sensors need replacing. I'm more than sure that an o2 sensor should last more than 20K.

Maybe one of the brothers on the forum can shed some light.

  8. cheers geeza will give them a shout

the drivers side has been rattling since ive owned the car and now i'm thinking of selling it i'm gonna get it sorted :duh:

How comes you're thinking of selling bruv?? Its not giving you trouble is it?? Mines starting to P**s me off a little now, its just one thing after another. Might just get everthing sorted & sell it.

At the moment it needs 2 new front calipers, discs & pads up front, both bottom front ball joints stuffed. gettig it repaired on Wednesday if i ever get the ball joints...

  9. hi all

does anyone know roughly how much a lower ball joint is for my 99 is200s? got a slight rattle and was told by my mechanic mate that this is what is in need of replacement as it sounds like ive got a golf ball in my door pocket.

    cheers

    rob

bruv they're about £90 per side from the main stealers. Dave at Prolex had a sale on recently. I ordered both os & ns for £73. I think the sale ended though dude!!!

  10. Brother,

    Things to look out for:

check the lower ball joints for some reason IS's eat em for brekky. Check for binding brake calipers, again these seem to be a common problem.

If the car is a little up on miles, check that there is no red residue around the water pump.

If you're buying an example with SAT NAV, check the screen doesn't turn all different colours when the screen is fully open.

Check the cd changer in front works. Load it with 6 cd's and change discs a few times, if it comes up with ERR3 the mechanism is on the way out.

Check the alloys as the lacquer is of poor quality and road salt/grit pits the alloy.

That's as much as I can say at this moment... If anything else comes to mind I'll post it..

lol... by the way, I forgot they can be thirsty so make sure you have thought carefully before you buy!!!

I would STRONGLY recomend that you buy from one of the brothers on the forum, you can rest assure that these cars are powdered & pampered & no expense would be spared on them. All things said, they are fantastic cars & generally reliable...

    Hope the info helps.

  11. I'm a currently skint, so I bought one of the cheap kits of eBay for £95. Run with it for two nights and it's like having floodlights fitted to the front of the car! It's a huge difference to the stock headlamp.

I went for the 4300K bulbs as I'd rather see where I'm going than posing, and anything over 6000K uses coloured filters on the bulbs, so you're losing light, which seems a bit pointless to me.

I was a bit worried about putting HID bulbs in a reflector headlamp not designed for it, but I have a really good beam pattern with a sharp cut off, and no one has flashed me, so I'm obviously not dazzling oncoming traffic either.

dude how was the quality of this £95 kit? I have been looking at it for some time, thinking whether I should buy it or not.. please share your experience.

  12. guys from a full tank I'm lucky of i get 230...Thats a mixture of town/motorway. I'm gonna service the bad boy soon, change all the drive belts, oil, filters the whole shabang, see what I get then.

Until then I'll just keep on admirin her under the petty station forecourts... :D

  13. Hello All You Lexi Friends

Little new at this and need a little help :duh:

Picking up my IS200 S on Friday and been looking at few mod's in advance

Chuffed i came across this link cos you's may be the answer to my prayers

Im a little educated on the HID lark now but prob not as much as you peeps

I understand that the higher the KANDAL the deeper the colour

    e.g

    3000K - Golden Yellow

    4300K - Bright White

    6000K - Crystal White

    8000K - Crystal Blue

    10000K - Aqua Blue

    12000K - Purple-Blue

    14000K - Purple

ive been on youtube and looked at video evidence of these HID's and am thinking of the 12000K's

some websites say they are Purple but the vids show them as a vivid light with subtle tint.

    12000K.jpg

Does this guy from manchester show the full range in some way, if so ill maybe pop down on Sat.

Also what bulbs are needed for Headlight, Sidelighs, and fog's

ive heard you need HB3, HB4, & 501 - anyone know if this is true, and if so which refers to which

e.g is HB3 Dipped beam, HB4 Main Beam and 501 Side Lights, and if so whats the Fog bulbs??

Also is it normal to get the same power bulb for fogs as main beam to ensure the same colour beam.

Really would appreciate your info , Cheers Y'all Rick

Dude dont get 12K, they are so far across the spectrum they look more like black light (UV).. they are NOT street legal & you will get unwanted attention from the fuzz.

I know the chap who sells these HID's in Manchester, my brother has dealt with him before, very nice guy indeed!!

But I've seen some on fleabay for £95 (that includes P&P) - my mate has ordered them for his yaris t-sport, i'll wait till he's fitted em to pass judgement on quality etc..

HID's are defo on my wish list but at the moment other things are required such as brakes & other suspension components....

  14. I only get 92 miles on £20. I'm going to try a service etc soon & also going to do an ecu reset as I cannot beleive that these cars can do 400 miles on a full tank - the best I've achieved is 230 on a full tank...

I make a habit of joining the mpg threads as fuel efficinecy is close to my heart, I was going to get a diesel but all the diesels I've had in the past have been a bag of crud!!!

And on the performance side of things - mine seems sluggish too, may need a service (plugs etc). However I was in my mums Yaris T-Sport which is quite nippy, there was a 51 plate IS in front (manual) and he was caning it and I must say it moved!!!!!!

  15. today I bit the bullet & attmpted to unseize things.... I only did the drivers side caliper, the sliders were fine, the lower piston was fine but the upper piston was completely seized... took some gentle persuasion by my brother with a nylon mallet to free the SOB up..

I didn't have time to do the passenger side but the transformation was amazing, like fusion pete the car now creeps & it feels a bit more 'looser' to drive relative to when the piston was seized.

On a negative point the pads and discs were completely screwed so I'll have to sort this.

I just wanted to say that this forum is superb, the knowledge section is great also.

    Keep up the posts!!!

  16. Hi guys,

I have experienced the same symptoms today in my 99V is200se auto. Coming off the motorway at 60mph the steering wheel was vibrating HEAVILY - too badly to be balancing :crybaby:

I was so worried that I had to stop on the hard shoulder!!

Checked the driverside front wheel (lower ball joints etc), these seemed fine but whilst I was inspecting this I felt alot of heat radiating from the disc, so much so it was uncomfortable to kneel beside the wheel. Also the alloy was BLACK - FULL OF BRAKE DUST.

Checked the front passenger side as a comparison, not as hot, wheel not as black.. In fact the was not much heat copming from the passenger side at all, what i would call 'normal'

Also as per fusion pete, the car does not creep when D/R is selected. This has always been the case since i purchased the car which was less than 3 months ago. From reading the other posts from MonsterMat et al I have come to the conclusion that I have a seized driver side caliper.

I feel I am a competent DIY mechanic, is it easy to strip the caliper down? do you recomend a brake cleaner? What parts if any need lubricating? Do I just push the piston in and out a few times?

    Any assistance will be helpful..

  17. I can vouch for pejay786, MCR (Manchester Car Refurbishment) is a top class outfit. I've used them many times for minor work & also for major things aswell.

They have always been professional in their service and they take pride in their work which is always perfect.

Just go down & ask for John Bunny, he runs things down there.
