  1. Had someone run into the back of the Lex this morning. It looks like I'll get away with just a drivers rear light. Anyone got one lying around by any chance?

It was 2 lanes coming up to some red lights, I'm in lane 1. Both lanes are stopping about the same place but I decided to change to lane 2. I did leave it quite late, and we're only going slow, but I don't think the guy in the van already in lane 2 was completely paying attention. I was about 2/3rds into the lane when I heard him lock up on the wet road, tried to move back, but couldn't quite get there. Ah well...

Really need a light though LOL

  2. Found it:

    Here is programming the alarm:

    WITHIN 20 SECONDS .

PRESS AND RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL 6 TIMES .

    REMOVE THE BLACK KEY .

WITHIN 10 SECONDS : INSERT BLACK KEY TO BE PROGRAMMED INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH .

WITHIN 10 SECONDS : PRESS AND RELEASE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ONCE .

IMMOBILIZER WARNING LAMP WILL FLASH .

AFTER 1 MINUTE IMMOBILIZER WARNING LAMP WILL GO OUT .

NOTE --- TO EXIT PROGRAMMING MODE : REMOVE IGNITION KEY AND PRESS BRAKE PEDAL AT LEAST ONCE WITHIN 10 SECONDS .

NOTE --- A MAXIMUM OF 7 KEYS CAN BE PROGRAMMED .

GREY KEY - HOW TOO .

  3. I only had the one master key so I bought a blank key from eBay - this is one without the transponder.

I then got that cut a a local locksmith. Took a bit of phoning around to find someone to do it.

Then I bought a complete key (eBay again, or a breaker) and took the transponder/remote out of it.

I then put this in my new key and programmed the car to accept it.

    Total cost around £50.

The programming procedure is on here somewhere, PM me if you can't find it.

    HTH :-)

  4. it does them both simultaneously, so writing is no slower than normal,

Most people will tell you it's slower e.g.

    RAID 1 (Disk mirroring)

Drives required (minimum): 2 (or multiples of 2)

Max capacity: Total array capacity divided by 2

Description: All data that is written to the storage system is replicated to two physical disks, providing a high level of redundancy.

Pros: Very reliable, assuming only a single disk per pair fails. RAID 1 tends to provide good read performance (equal to or better than a single drive).

Cons: Because each drive is mirrored to another, requires 100% disk overhead to operate. Write performance can sometimes suffer due to the need to write the data to two drives,

    http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-...11-6056489.html

  5. means quicker access too.

    No it doesn't.

Two drives mirrored (to protect data) will actually be slower, as it's got to write the data twice.

Two drives striped gives quicker access, but you have no extra safety. It's actually less safe as if one drive dies you loose the lot.

Also worth noting - RAID mirroring will NOT protect against some muppet deleting the files.

As above re windows backup is about your best bet.

  6. 35psi is correct..... the manual suggests 32 but Dr Bones will tell you 35 and I have to agree with him
I have Dunlop SP Sport 3000's all round and the rears have alot of tread and the fronts are due to be replaced in about a month or so.

Tyre Pressures are at 35p.s.i all round aswell.

I havent had the geometry looked at since buying the car in august.

Iam sure your REAR tyre pressures are alittle too high

I think we're saying 35 is best for normal driving, lower will help with grip on ice. :winky:

  7. That's clearly been written by someone who can't drive a slippery stick up his own a55...

To answer your question though, when you get to the point of loosing traction in a bend an LSD car is more likely to slide as both wheels are spinning. However, you'll need to be doing more to get it to happen. More can be anything - speed, acceleration, road with less grip etc.

  8. I changed mine with the car on stands, and didn't remove any of the trays.

I was lucky (strong :) ) enough to undo it by hand, could be quite dfficult to get any tool on there.

Performance filters LOL what a load of horse 5h!t.

You've changed nothing else on the car that would increase the flow of oil, or the stress the engine is under. You're also probably using better quality oil, and changing it more often than recommended so the standard filter stands even more chance of coping just fine.

  9. ..... and 5 quid was from my credit card for a thieving "foreign transaction fee".

Name and shame this thieving scumbag credit card company. That's appalling... :tsktsk:

FWIW, neither my Mint (Mastercard), nor my Amex, charge a fee for foreign transactions. So if you do a lot of business with places abroad, get one of those to use.

They all charge, it's just that with the above you get a worse exchange rate.

You never get something for nothing!!
