  1. You tell 'em Leddy. Glad you're finding it funny.

I can just picture you, (Howard and Hilda) 500 cars held up and Mrs Leddy going hell for leather with those needles, knitting a couple of bobble hats!

    Good evening campers!

Exiled (nice Name is that what you are)

How did u know my names Howard :whistling: and the wife is knitting me a lovley jumper do you want one too :winky:

Love the comments being generated here not bad for some one who wanted advice on a towbar.

WHAT A WORLD WE LIVE IN

    TTFN :P

  2. Ok Guy's :offtopic:

I'm finding it quite funny how this resentment for Caravaner's is :whistling:

    Ok a few Facts

Motorways i stick at 60MPH 10 MPH below the LEGAL limit when towing and there are two lanes available for those in a hurry to pass.

Other roads I tow at the LEGAL limits 30 and 40 MPH so no problem there unless you want to break the law and overtake me.

Ok inclines i may slow down a bit but no slower than say a lorry or heavy loaded van

I think you guys watch to much top gear (As I do) differance is i do not get sucked in by Clarksons Views.

That's my two penny's worth :winky:

Have Nice Day you all :P

  3. Very sadly I thinking of changing my Lexus is220d SeL (06 Reg) with sunroof and MM for practicality reasons (just started Caravaning)need a bigger heavier car

So got a valuation from parkers (on the net) who said it was worth £23900 PX Value.

Best offer so far PX on a Freelander2 worth £24000 is £19500 :crybaby:

Salesman told me to ignore Parkers they over inflate the price and as a guesture of goodwill they would make it up the PX to £20000

So as it stands i've lost over 5k since buying the car at the end of January. So it looks like it 's towbar fitting time for my Lexxy

    Disapointed

  4. [

I towed a caravan with my IS 220d and never had any problems. I had the Lexus towbar fitted before I picked the car up. As Exiled said "the IS diesel has bags of torque 400Nm@2000-2600 rpm" and it pulls a caravan easily. Our Caravan (now sold) was a 2006 Sterling Eccels Jewel and seemed a good match. I would agree with Exiled other advice too. We started caravaning over 5 years ago and would recomend it to anyone, but read up on towing and loading advice, it will keep you safe.

DieselDriver Thanks for the Information ,

Do you or any one else have a photo or know of a link so that i can see a picture of the towbar on the car so that it give's me an idea what one looks .

i've heard they have to cut away at part of the bumper ? Can anyone help

    Cheers Leddy

  5. On another note, I bought my wife a Brand New A3 sportback with the DVD based Sat Nav. When we drove the car home we realised that our roadname was spelt incorrectly on the SatNav system. So every time we get in the car we can see our roadname displayed incorrectly which is slightly embarassing when we have passengers. .

Hi Guys just for quick info I'm affraid this has happened with my Lexus IS22D Se-l Sat nav it also spelt the name of our road wrong and does not even accept our postcode (which was highly embaressing for the saleman who was showing me the system before i bought it  So no browine point for the makers of our Sat Nav System either :tomato:

    Cheers Leddy

  6. I lost all 4 of mine when it went in for new tyres, didn't notice till afterwards! Are they essentially a trim over the normal valve or are they the valves themselves? Whatever the case, since having 3 sets of caps nicked I'm back to standard black ones now which look fine with the rubber valves themselves :crybaby:

Hi guys had the same problem with my nice shiny caps they soon disappeared so i spent £9 on eBay and got myself locking ones with the Lexus logo on them been on now for 3mths with no problems i hope they are frustrating the hell out of would be theifs :winky:

  7. i phoned my dealer yesterday after sending 2 e-mails and getting no reply after a week to try to get my car booked in for a couple of minor problems to get sorted, i asked if i could get my 5th injector changed to help sort out the poor mpg iam getting, i was told that at the moment they are only offering this if your car breaks down, and that there is a backlog of 5th injectors on order.

so do i hope i break down? or suffer with poor economy

Hi Guys just got back from Lexus Chester

My 220D Se-l just had it's first service £213 :crying: told them fuel consumption was poor they fitted a new 5th injector did a ecu remap at the same time also told them a couple of alloys are bubbling from the inside so a new set of four are on order and i'm waiting for them to be fitted so no complanits here.

They even gave me an RX350 as a courstisy car wow what a motor :P SO a job well done that's if the fuel consump gets better (Watch this space!!).

    Cheers all Leddy

  8. Hi Guys just read all the comments on the fuel econ. I've been talking to a local Mechanic and he said that if you change gear at or around 2000rpm each time it should improve your MPG. :duh:

So I have a set my rev indicator (Nice touch Lex)to come on at around 2000rpm to signal a gear change(woo F1 Stuff). if anything it looks quite cool and up to now it's not really a problem even hitting 6th gear at around 60-65 with no issues .

As for mpg well it's too early to tell yet . But before trying this top mechanic tip  I was getting about 420 mile to a full tank (£45 worth) with an average of 34.7 on the comp.

    Here's Tryin Leddy :D :D

    QUOTE(Andy B @ Feb 13 2007, 01:38 AM)

    Hi all,

My first post so please be gentle!! :)

I am considering buying an IS250 and am not sure about whether to go for the SE version or the SE-L (both with automatic transmission). A friend of mine has a 2006 SE-L which I like a lot however I was wondering what the difference in specification is between the SE and the SE-L (without the MultiMedia package).

For example, are the following 'goodies' part of the standard spec on an SE:-

    Auto-lights

    Electrically folding wing mirrors

On-board computer (MPG; average speed indication, etc)

Audio controls on the steering wheel

    Electric seat adjustment

    17" wheels

    Keyless entry and start

If the majority of these are indeed standard on an SE then I think I'll choose this over an SE-L and save a bit of money.

Would appreciate anyone's help on this. Thanks very much.

    Andy

Andy if you have the extra cash go for the Se-l you will not regret it you get the following extra above the Se

    model

    1) Automatic Headlights (Come on when it starts to get Dark)

    2) Automatic Wipers (Come on When it detects Rain)

    3) Electric memory seats with settings for Steering and door mirrors(No electric steering Column on SE)

    4) Illuminated scuff plates (front) Light up the Lexus badge (nice touch at night)

    5) Electric rear sun Blind (which when up comes down when you select reverse and goes back up when you start going forward again.

6)Xeon HID headlamps with I-AFS which turn with the wheels (Excellent at night)

7)Electro-chromatic interior/exterior mirrors (Darken when it detects bright lights from car behind)

8)Wood trim Around the window switches and gear stick

The Keyless entry/start button and folding door mirrors are standard on both models so is the on board MPG computer and leather seats

It's up to you but i have had the Se-l 220D for 2wks now and love it

Go One extra and get the ML Multi media (sound is amazing and is worth every penny)

    Hope this helps happy driving

    Leddy :D

  10. Hello everyone,

I've been reading this forum for over 9 months trying to get a fix on the new IS models.

Having driven two Mercedes E Class petrol over the last 10 years and also my needs changing re: family etc.

I finally decided to go Diesel and more to the point... Lexus Diesel. I test drove the BMW 320D and whilst it is an excellent car I opted for the Lexus IS220 D Executive...Metallic Biege...Moonroof...Ivory Leather trim...standar sound system..NO SatNav. More for your money!...Simple decision.

I was anxious...as you would be when laying out Euro 53,000 for this spec in Ireland.

It is a truly fabulous car!...My wife and I are thrilled with it...it's way ahead of the BMW for us...we're both in our mid fifties and just getting in and out of the car is a big plus for the Lexus. I read with interest comments re: the gearing...I agree its different...but when you get used to it, no problem! When the horses kick in WOW! Thankfully the car does not suffer (at the moment) from the infamous rattles and creaks as some owners reported experiencing in earlier models...perhaps Lexus have kept quiet about the fact that they have fixed the problem in the production process...fingers crossed they have.

I drive conservatively (observe speed limits) I've only had the car 9 days but have done 1450 +klms (900 mls)...both my average and tank average are 7.1 litres per 100 klms...thats 40 mpg straight out of the box...again I'm happy with this and hopefully by 15000 klms the car's engine will have eased itself in nicely with an extra bonus in terms of Litres per 100 klm or mpg.

The spare wheel isn't my idea of a spare wheel but I'll get over it ...the rest of the car IMHO is superb. I have read with interest comments about the space in the back??? No problems ...one of my sons is 6'-4" and the other 6'-3" they had no complaints. My wife also sat in the back for a 100 mile trip again very comfortable and no leg room issues and she's 5'-10".

In summary (so far) we're delighted with our choice...I consider it a drivers car, if its a challenge to drive accept the challenge and drive it with enjoyment in the positive knowledge that its as good as anything in its class. Its spec is better than anything in its class. Having driven good german cars for the last 10 years I have in some points of view dropped down the scale, but let me assure you all I genuinely feel that this is as good a car as I have ever driven....Long may it last.

Gald your happy with your IS had mine 1 week Now (IS220D Se-l with MM) and agree with all your comments but you should have got the Multi media Package it's amazing well worth the extra dosh I say.

    Anyway Happy Motoring

    Leddy :D :D

  11. Why do you need these? Is it because you have a pale interior?

If so, when I bought my GS from Lexus Newcastle, they threw in a set of black mats for free, since the beige ones get dirty very quickly. It was the salesmans's idea :)

    IanB :D

Ian My Interior is beige with matching mats and they are dirty already wish I had mentioned them to the salesman but i only saw the car on the day of picking it up( Dealer is 200 miles away) it totally slipped my mind don't know if he could get us discount on a black set might try tomorrow.

    Cheers

    Leddy

  12. Congratulations.

I bought my 220d SE-L a few weeks ago, but it won't arrive till March.

I was really tempted by silver + the beige, but at the end of the day all the examples I saw had really bad carpets, and I didn't think I could keep it clean enough, so I went for the grey.

Can you tell me: Is there a sunglasses cabin behind the map lights?

    Thanks

    Hi Gareth

Unfortunatly my IS does not have a sunglasses cabin i've pressed and proded in that area to no avail. (maybe it's because there's a sunroof??) as for the beige interior you are right about the carpets mine are looking grubby now.

So I'm Ordering black mats as i've seen it on other Beige interiors and it match's quite well.

    Cheers

    Leddy

  13. :) Ok Folks

It's 24hrs on after picking up my 6mth old Lexus IS220D Se-l (Argento Ice with Oakham Beige Leather, Sunroof and Multi Media ) First impressions?

    The Good bits

    1) Beautiful to drive amazing pick up (Eventually)(No Rattles YET!!)

    2) Average MPG is reading 37.8 (Not bad at all I'm use to 26)

    3) Gadget City don't know where to start, There are buttons for this and that everywhere

    4) The ML Sound system is the best I've heard and that's comming from a TT with The BOSE sound sytem in it Truely amazing. :D

5)Sat Nav nice clear graphics (Not had chance to try it out Yet)

(As for the gearing well it is alittle strange getting use to but i don't find it a problem, why all the fuss about 6th gear i don't understand. Just let the car do it's thing and if it needs it . It will ask for it  )

    The Not so Good

1)Slight wind Noise from the sunroof little annoying when there's no music On but with the ML system Blaring away who cares

2)The Nannying MULTI MEDIA is very frustrating it stops me when moving advancing my MP3 Playlist to choose what song I want on next if i do not want the songs that are on next to each other. (Does anyone know how to bypass this or have I just not got up to that bit in the manual??) The DVD loses it's positon when not being used and goes back to the beginning of the film menu when you return ( I understand it's proberbly because i change disc's when on the move to listen to music as the films not much good to me on the move)Just a pain getting back the part of the movie you were watching.

3)The boot lid is quite heavy to open

and well thats about it for now

All those out there in doubt what car to go for next this is one baby well worth investing in i'm hoping my opinion will not change over the next few years but 24hrs on this is deffo a SEXY LEXY.

    (pictures to follow soon)

    Have agood day all LEDDY

  14. Leddy - my midlife crisis commences when I'm 40 - and it makes me want to go down the performance route - it screams Audi RS4 at me

Am I going mad? Or madder?

    Jamboo

You go for it mate one thing is for certain with the RS you won't go far wrong and what a way to go mad. I'm happy going for the IS at the moment but may join you in yrs to come if my madness returns,

I’ve exorcised my demons with the TT over the last 2yrs and feel it's time to give this body a rest and head into my Forty's in style.

But i do admit the RS4 will always be looking over my shoulder who knows???????:P :P :P

    Take care Leddy :duh:

  15. Just a quick one guys I’ve just got off the American IS web site and they offer HomeLink® Remote Control built into the rear view mirror of there IS models which allows operation of an electric garage door or other remote devices. does anyone know if it's available here on the SE-L model would be a great feature for me as i have a remote garage door.

    Cheers Leddy :duh: :duh:

P.s Pick up my 220D SE-L on Wednesday Dinner can’t wait woohoo

  16. You listened to everyone's advice then  :D

Yo Tango love the sarcasm but having read through lots of questions and reply’s on this forum I came to the conclusion that it's a case of each to their own.

Having done the speed thing with the Audi TT, I wanted some thing that was a little bit better economically and all round cheaper to run with a bit of luxury and grace and so opted for the 200d SE-l as i head into my mid life crisis.

Will i regret it I will let you know over the next few months but at the moment feel as if i have made the right choice?

    Have a good weekend :) :)

    Leddy :P

  17. Hi Guys I hate this forum I've just got it into my head what i want 220D SE-L now after reading lots of comments like fuel economy etc i wonder if I might as well go for the 250 SE-L Auto

I'm used to 26 MPG in my Audi TT so do you think I would get about the same with the 250 or what?

Things that are putting me off the 220D are comments about the stiff clutch , bad MPG, and problems with some gear changing, not to mention rattles and squeaks.

Can anyone help I'm getting close to making up my mind should i go for the Lexus at all or my 2nd choice at the moment the new Freelander2 2.2 SE

    HELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP

    Cheers Leddy

P.s Thanks in advance for any reply I'm about to spend alot of Money so any advice is most welcome :D :D
