  1. hi there, check my post history because we had exactly the same problem when we moved house. Luckily for us (or unlucky whichever way you look at it!) we moved into a flat so there was no need to park on our own driveway!. Basically i had the car into the lexus garage and they were non-plussed at our problem because it only ever happened when i parked in a certain stretch of road near our flat. So now i park 50 yards up the road and problem was solved.

Its just a shame you cant do the same!

  2. Hi,

Does your car have the 3 year Roadside Assistance service. It is standard here in Ireland so I assume it is standard where you are.

If it has call them, they should come out and do whatever diagnosis is necessary.

It sounds like the battery might just be flat but they will sort it out.

    Hope this helps.

i honestly have no idea if we have or not. It is a UK reg car though, collected from Reading so i would presume we have the UK standard???

Bollox, trust things to go tits up when hubby's away!

    I'll keep you updated :winky:

  3. JEN,

firstly I doubt that the smaller amount of diesel in it is likely to be causing an issue. I have run mine down to 0 miles in the tank and it would still start no problems (!).

The fact that the battery light is on could be due to the fact the battery has no power in it, and hence you struggling to start the car. If there is a filling station close by take it for a drive and fill up, then take a scenic route back to give it tim to gt some charge back in. I am here of course assuming that the battery is flat - and it may not be. So if you have been driving the car around daily for anything other than short journeys, then apologies.

There is also a LED type thing on the battery itself. I can't remmber off top of my head what the colours should be, but If you peer down onto it, it will be blue crescent rings with a red dot in the centre I think IF the battery is OK. If not, it might show a small red dot.

The 5th Injector thing is to do with the car going into "Safe mode". This is when the engine electronics in the car decide that it needs to just get you to a Lexus garage as someting has gone wrong with the emissions handling within the car. "VSC Check" might appear on the dash, and you wouldn't be able to go very fast at all.

You may well find that your local dealership has an English speaker there, especially if you are in a town close to a US/UK airbase.

PS - the fact that t is 18 months old could mean that it needs the 5th Injector thing sorting out. The fix is that they install a new 5th injector and associated bits and bobs, plus re-programme the electronic control unit with different software. This should stop the safe mode problms that some of the earlier cars were plagued with.

    Hi, thanks for the response.

The car started fine this morning which threw me a bit, although i did use it yesterday evening, something which i dont normally need to do ( i tend to only use it in the mornings then its parked up til the next morning usually).

Anyway, i forgot to mention yesterday that the engine chugs after first starting when its been really hot weather 26deg +. I really cant imagine that the heat would have anything to do with it so maybe its just a co-incidence???

My local Lexus dealer is in Hanover (over 90 mins drive away). They do speak english but its very limited. We had to have the car serviced there in march and they wouldnt give us a courtesy car so we had to sit and wait with 2 young kids - and they didnt even clean the car! Also, they looked at me stupidly when i told them about a problem we have with our alarm. Consequently, we have to park our car about 50 meters away from our home because the frequency was being interefered with and we couldnt gain access to the car without setting the alarm off 3 or 4 times each day!. So if i'm honest, i'm not that keen on going back there.

Please god dont let that 5th injector thing and the safe mode thing happen to us. It takes us 90 min to get to the dealer and that on the autobahn doing over 100mph! It would take me all day to get there slowly! lol

  4. Hi

first of all, please excuse my poor terminology for car parts and names etc. Its my hubby who usually deals with this sort of stuff but he's on operational tour at the moment.

Anyway, since he's been gone ive started having some quite major problems with the car (IS220d).

Its started off like this..... The first time i would try and start the car each day the engine would chug and it basically sounds like its struggling to tick over.

Then this morning the car wouldnt start at all. It took me 5 attempts to get it going and i had to rev the engine to keep it going. The Battery light was on and even though i knew i needed to fill up with diesel, the warning light was not on (there was only 54 miles left in the tank). Now i know this is not normal but is my problem related to this car recall thing what your all talking about? And whats the problem with the 5th injector? Is that part of my problem aswell? We havent heard anything about this because we live in Germany. But obviously explaining our problem is quite difficult, especially since i dont speak german!

PS: our car is now 18 months old - not sure if that makes a difference to your replies or not!

    Thanks in advance, JEN

  5. sounds very familiar, although i just wished they'd changed our keyfobs for us. We moved house in Feb 08 and found that we couldnt park our car near our house. Everytime we tried to gain access to the car the alarm went off. So now its parked about 50 meters up the road!

We have a list as long as my arm of problems with our car but i'm not gonna rant on about it. Its a gorgeous car that keeps the kids entertained in the back!

  6. Well guys, i asked Lexus Recall department today while i was sorting other things with them, and they said they dont have anything on computer regarding the hand brake recall, so Andy did you get a letter from Lexus to say about a recall or from the dealer? please let me know, as my hand brake dont hold the car every so often the first time i apply the hand brake, and it will take a few go before it hold, and i would like to get it fit under recall if its available..

    thank matey.

    Regards

    Maz

WOW, i thought it was just me with this problem. I mean ive been driving 11 years so i certaqinly know how to put a handbrake on, but every now and again i find the car rolling backwards out of a parking space. i have to apply the handbrake so hard that i have difficulty in releasing it again.

  7. thanks for your replies, they are much appreciated.

The guy in the Lexus garage did say that it could be interference of some sort - but he followed on by saying i'd have to live near an airport to have such problems!

So you reckon i could need a change of keys or frequency thingymebob etc? Ive got the car going in for its first service on saturday so i might ask then about it then. DO you think we'd have to pay for it? Its not our fault we live where we live. Hubby is in the army so we get no choice in the matter. Typically though, there is another Lexus living literally around the corner from us. I'm so tempted to knock their door and ask if they have problems where they park. And if they dont then i shall be parking ours right beside it. lmao

  8. sounds like your having a similar problem to us. Ive literlally just posted about this (check out my other posts)

Have you managed to sort snything out yet? I drove to our nearest lexus garage this morning (nearly 2 hours drive) and they couldnt find anything wrong with it. Granted the car alarm didnt go off while we were there but as soon as i pulled up at home i found i couldnt lock the car!

  9. Thans for advice Gord, but no luck-or maybe i didnt explain properly..i picked up this IS200 approx a week ago,43000 on the clock but batt totally dead. Its a minter (t-plate '99). I put a new batt in but have come across two probs,(one a sat nav prob-but thats a new topic)..the key would only just open doors but only when held agaist the receiving sensor so thougt i would replace batt in master key(only key i have) but, being a Lexus virgin didnt realise(till told by man in shop) that there may be a time period/limit between swoppng batts that may affect it.

On trying new batt in key it would open only drivers door, start engine but nothing more!

The next day it opened all doors, and locked, and at distance via key especally after starting car,but now wont.

No cenral lockng with key in door either but still starts! Have i left it too long between batt changes? If so what can/should i do to reassociate the key with car?

  10. Since weve changed the batteries in our remote for the keyless entry, our car has started playing up majorly.

We cant get into the car without setting the alarm off - and thats by using the actual key and turning the lock (its the only way we can get into the car at the moment - even with the new batteries fitted).

Also i can have started the engine and set off on my journey only to have 'KEY NOT DETECTED' flash up on the dash. Bit worrying when you know it will cut out if you drive off without the keys actually in the car.

Last friday i couldnt get the car started at all as it wouldnt register either sets of keys as being near the start button!

This morning only the drivers door would open (with the alarm going on its second round) so i shut the door and tried to lock it and unlock it to get the rear doors open for the kids. WHen i shut the door it locked automatically with my keys still inside. It was only by fluke that i'd brought hubbys keys to the car with me that i could get inside again (yep alarm went off again) and get my own keys back.

Anyways, to cut a long story short i found myself at a LEXUS dealer in hannover at lunchtime, only for them to find no problem with the car. TYPICAL. So i drive all the way home get out and try to lock the car - only to find that the car wont lock with the keyless system again.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Or is it really just genuine fluke that this is happening?

  11. just wondering if anyone has had to replace their windscreen yet? and if so would you be so kind as to say how much it cost you?

Basically we have a crack on our windscreen that is only just repairable, so i phoned the insurance company only to find out we have a 500 euro excess (that equates to about £300). My dad has said it should be a reduced excess rate for a claim on windscreen damage, however, my insurance company (in Germany) says not.

So now, i'm curious as to whether a whole new windscreen costs £300 or not. And whether my insurance company is a rip-off merchant or not too!

    Thanks in advance,

    Jen & Mark

  12. Check out my problem in the same catagory. And Lexus told me that there were no other issues with any gearbox or clutches in the UK!!!

Well i got another letter of Lexus 2 days ago, they told me it was a common fault with the cehicle and that it did not affect the performance at all. They cant make theyre minds up wether its common or not as far as I can see. Ive kept a copy of this letter cos Lexus are taking the p*&s. If anyone else has any letters were Lexus have said it isnt a common fault please let me know cos i am planning on them taking my car back cos i hate the noise.

  13. Hello,

Been on holiday but thanks for all your replies. This is not meant to be nasty but I`m glad im not the only one with the problem. Im gonna ring Lexus tomorrow and tell them if they cant fix it then im gonna get a lawyer and get all my money back and Lexus can take the car back. I did take it into the garage but they wouldnt tell me what the problem was, i rang Lexus head office and they said that the problem was in the hands of the technicians but may never be fixed and then they changed there mind on that comment REALLY quick. I said change my box and they said too expensive, if the cars not working they can fix it, i have 6 months guarantee left and if a problem happens after that i have to pay so they can fix it now. If i get anywhere with Lexus i will post it on this link, same if anyone else gets a breakthrough can they please let me know before i buy a Skoda or something worse.

    Thanks

  14. I agree the rest of the car is good. But the sounds doesnt get better and now its squeaking when it goes past the reverse selection bit.

Ive got Lexus UK on it and they say it could be one of two problems, 1: My expectations (I dont think so), 2: A genuine fault, i will let you know so if they fix it you can take yours in.

  15. Ive had my Lexus IS220d Sport for almost 2 months now (07 reg). Ive been to the lexus/Toyota garage and told them that my clutch sounds buggered for want of a better word. They said leave it 3-4 thousand miles and then come back. Ive read a few posts on this website that says the problem wont go away.

Does anyone know of a fix from Lexus that stops the struggle with changing 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears and that horrible noise in between gears that sounds like you are the worst driver in the world?

Also my gear stick has started squeaking between 1st and 2nd know to add insult to injury. I am seriously considering getting rid and changing to the BMW.

Such a good lucking car let down by the gears.

If anyone does know for sure that Lexus can fix this problem it would be appreciated, Thanks.

  16. Just got my new Lexus IS220d Manual Sport MM ICE, 07 plate, it replaces my Ford ST TDCI, and aswell as it feeling as though it doesnt have as much power as the Ford even though it has more power, and the centre console being badly designed i dont have a problem with it.

But this morning I noticed that when starting the engine, the RPMs went to about 1100 (if not slightly more), i was driving for about 2 and a half hours on and off and the revs didnt drop.

Whats the problem, could it be the Air Conditioner?? Or something differant. Also I'm disappointed with the gear box, thats the worst part i think, showing off in a new EXPENSIVE car and you need the stereo up cos if you dont people will hear the horrible hollow clunky gear changes.

Thanks if anyone can help me.

************IGNORE THIS I WENT AND PLAYED WITH THE CAR AND IT IS THE AIR CONDITIONER*************
