  1. I am away at the moment, but if he cannot get in i will use the AA when i get back, i am begining to think the Battery was borderline and has started to unlock the doors and stopped half way, as the unlock buttons have moved partly the way out.

I had this with my passengers door once, as it had not shut right and neither the inside or outside handles would work, really he only wants in just now to get the tax displayed so he does not get a ticket or clamped.

  2. My cousin has had a 1992 Ls400 for a couple of month now, he has come back from holiday and the Battery is flat, now the problem is that both the front doors will not open, the key will turn to the locked position OK, but will not unlock, you can see the lock button at the handle move slightly, but the doors will not open.

We can get into the boot and i tried running a cable from the + of a jump pack to the boot light and the - to a earth in the hope of the central door locking being able to open a rear door, nothing.

He has stripped the boot liner out and tried the same on the petrol flap lock and boot lock wiring, nothing, i wonder if the fuse has went on the central locking.

Are you able to get to the alternator or starter from underneath the car, so we could get power direct to the car, or is it going to be a case of getting a rear window from a scrapper and breaking a window.

The reason he needs to get into it is to put he new tax disc on it, he has spoken to the traffic warden who has given him a week to come up with something.

  3. Well after much swearing at the car, i can report you can get the door panel off in one piece if you are very very carefull and you only have to break the screw in the air vent hole, the screws along the bottom can be extracted with the door closed, though things are easier with the velour/door seal pulled off to give you some room, one of the rods had rusted and jammed so after cleaning and re greasing everything it now works and can go for it's MOT. :yahoo: :D

  4. Chris, there is a microswitch on the handle that gets gummed up, i have had to do it on both of the LS400's, one i have been lucky with flooding the lock with WD40 and contact cleaner, the blue one i had to take the door panel off, which is easy, it's one of the things, like the LCD that goes on them all, have a look at the link below to see the switch, on yours i got away with doing it through the key hole with contact cleaner, if it does not get used for a while it gums up, the site is great for tutorials, look under body then outer door handle.

  5. I am going to have to put the MOT back, it looks like i will either have to break the interior trim off and get at the lock that way, or have a look in the B pillar to see if i can cut the nuts of the striker plate/pin, the door is not unlocking, so the exterior and interior handles are disconnected, the lock must be jammed in some way, as the central locking moves the unlock button half way.

  6. My blue LS400 is due it's MOT on Thursday and the passengers door will not open, the inside lever does nothing, the outside door handle does nothing and the locking lever will not open fully, the key will lock the door but will not fully turn to the right to unlock it, the central locking can be heard working and is triggered by the switch and lock but the lock will not turn fully to the right.

I don't want to break the key, can either the door card be taken off with the door closed or the door lock pin be unbolted from the inside of the pillar so i can get the door open to have a look at the lock mechanism, my wife is away with the car so i can't have a look at the car itself.

  7. It is not as bad to remove as i thought and i can get one for £40 inc del, i might give it a go as my windscreen excess is £80, I was doing 60mph, the sunroof was in the tilt position, the pigeon went through the sunroof smashing it, it then must have caught the metal rim and disintegrated, It was a three way split, 1/3 went back the roof and boot, 1/3 was lying in the sun blind that was 1/2 open, the other 1/3 was on the passengers seat  boy does the granules of toughened glass cover a big area, i will have to hose the car down today, as it is covered in small bits of glass and glass dust.
