  1. Hi, I recently upgraded from a mk1 GS to a mk2. It has a space for a car phone next to the gear stick, I am under the impression that this is where the front cup holder should be. I just want to ask if I can simply remove the phone holder bit and replace it with a cup holder from Lexus. It has a screw hole in it so it looks to be straight forward enough, but I assume there will also be some kind of wiring under there though?

    Any help is appreciated.

  2. I was just wondering, with the cup holder for the mk1 GS300, is it possible to take it out without breaking it?

I ask because mine is already broken (when I push it to take it out the whole thing just flies out). i would like to replace it with one which isn't broken and was wondering if it would be possible to take one out of a car at a scrap yard or whatever or if my only option is to buy a new one from Lexus at £70.

    Thanks.

  3. Hi, I have a couple of small problems with my GS300, just wondering if anybody here can help me out with these at all.

First, is the heated seats, they don't seem to be working properly, if at all. Any ideas as to why this may be? I really don;t know what I'm going to be looking for on this one!

Secondly, is the rear drivers side window, it doesn't work. Obviously this isn't a big problem, but it is something I would like to fix if I can. I have heard that the motor often packs up on this, is this true? And if so, is it easy to fix?

I think that's all for now!!

    Thanks in advance.

If it's a Mk1 the heated seats take a long while to warm up especially if both are on at the same time

It is indeed the mk1. How long are we talking here? I have left the passenger one on for a good 10 minutes with no noticeable affect.

  5. It may be an idea to do a quick search on www.findapart.co.uk and/or similar. See if they can find you one from a scrapped gs300 and try that! It will probably cost you no more than say £20 delivered.

If not, then I would risk buying one from Lexus, I'd say the chances are it will work, if not, there may be somebody else looking for one so you may be able to get a few pounds back for it on eBay.

  6. I think that pretty much covers it to be honest. There will always be SOME jerk, mine is indeed more violent when cold. But um, short of making sure the rear brakes are up to scratch and that the cold idle speed is no more than say, 1800 rpm and warm idle speed no more tan 750-850rpm, that's all I can say.

Again, mine DOES jerk, more than my old V6 Camry did.

  7. when my car is cold and i shift into drive (parking brake on or off) with my foot firmly on the brake pedal my car lunges/jerks forward.

the brakes stop the car rolling but the jerk is uncomfortable.

my car does the same thing when putting into reverse but not as violently.

it is a lot less noticeable when the car is warm.

    any ideas?

Haha, I do believe this is completely normal. It will be worse when the car is cold because the choke will still be out, thus higher revs. No different to when you first start a manual and it's cold, the revs will be higher and it will always want to pull away quicker.

I say I think this is normal because I too have the GS which does exactly the same and have had a Toyota Camry v6 auto which was similar (maybe slightly less harsh). If it is excessive, then i would say maybe your rear brakes aren't at full srength and need looking at. Sounds fine to me though.

  8. Had mine replaced by a little garage I use. Owner is a Lexus fanatic and an electrics guru.

He replaced mine with a guranteed recon one for £150 all in. Took him about a hour to fit.

I'll be honest with you, that sounds a bit OTT for me. I wouldn't expect to pay more than £60 for a reconditioned one, making labour a bit much!

But in the end, a chap who lives near me, works for Subaru took it off for me, took him about 10 minutes, without a jack.

If mine can't be repaired I'll buying a reconditioned one for £50 in the morning and he said he'll stick that back on for me in the afternoon.

So I think I've really got lucky there, also got myself out of a pickle as I don't really have the facility to tow it to a garage. So fingers crossed I can get this new one and it will bolt straight back on nice and easily!

  9. Hello, I'm wondering if anyody here may possibly be able to advise me on what to do regarding getting the starter motor on my mk1 Lexus GS300 sorted out.

Basically I want to know if removing the started motor in there at the moment, is a job I can do myself (considering I have no experience of working on cars, most I would normally do myself on something like a Toyota/Lexus is an oil change!).

Would also be grateful for any advice on where I may be able to get it repaired in the Norwich area, or where I would be able to pick a new/reconditioned one up at a decent price?

    Thanks for any help.
