Sorry guys I might not of made it clear (have a habit of that)
The price quoted from Lexus and Toyota was just for the service which included the cambelt change, not the air con or water pump.
I can get a second hand air con pump for £50 or a brand new one i think for about £600, and new water pump for £100,
so not including labour thats an extra £150 and at £100/hr labour, that might be expensive little job.
What do they do to clean the air con out?
I'll go back to lexus and try and get some disount.
I might get an air con specialist to have a look at the air con aswell
-
Spoke to Toyota at Canterbury and was quoted £1000 for the service which includes cambelt. £400 parts and £600 for 6 hrs labour.
Popped up the road to Lexus and quoted £1027 all in.
So with that in mind I've been looking on the net a different sites and managed to get everything I need except the oils for £336.
This includes
Oil filter
Pollen Filter
Timing Belt
Tensioner Bearing
Idler Pulley
Belt - Alternater
Belt - Power steering
Belt - Air con
Water Pump
Air Con Pump (second hand)
Spark Plugs
Coolant
All the parts are not original Lexus parts and its got me thinking, is this ok?
So I've priced it up with OEM parts and it comes up to £432
I think I'll go for the OEM parts for piece of mind.
How much oil is needed for the engine and gearbox and whats best to buy, also I need brake fluid. Any recomendations

Thanks for the replies
I've tried a search but cant seem to find the answers i need.
Tyretraders do the rainsports for £69 each delivered, bargain i think.
Ill give toyota a call early next week to see what they charge. ive been told that my local lexus garage (canterbury) send the cars down the road to the toyota mechanics anyway. Ill just cut out the middle man and save some money.
The aircon pump works but makes a horrible grinding noise, metal to metal, when on so i think it needs replacing

Sorry to ramble on about another service and cambelt change but my cars in some need of some TLC,
I need to get 4 new tyres, get a full service, get the cambelt changed and get a new air con pump fitted.
Its a 54 plate LE thats done 58k
What excatly is done on the service? Ive read about getting the water pump changed while doing the cambelt to save time later on.
Is it worth getting it done at either lexus, toyota or a local garage and is it better to get the parts myself?
Ive read that the lexus stamp wont make any difference now that its a 6 yrs old car.
If i was to get the parts, what do I need to get for the service and cambelt channge?
All i know is i need - oil filter, pollen filter, spark plugs, coolant, engine oil, belts???(dont know what ones)
I've got a K&N air filter already fitted, and ive just had mintex discs and pads fitted front and rear.
What sort of price should I expect? I dont want to spend to much money but I want someone competent to do the work.
I'm thinking of taking it to a toyota garage rather than a lexus or local garage.
Ill get the air con pump off eBay as im not paying stupid amounts for a new one.
Does any one recommend Uniroyal Rainsport 2 tyres?
I would like to get the geometry done to Tony at WIMs setting aswell
Cheers guys

Sorry but what's your problem - you were doing nearly TWICE the speed limit on a road that you knew had a 30 zone and you got caught.
In my view doing 58 in a 30 zone is reckless if not dangerous driving - you said there are houses hence the 30 speed limit. Why did you feel it necessary to do such a high speed in what seems to be a built up area? Just accept that this time you got caught and accept the punishment. Perhaps you will learn a lesson from this, ie keep within the speed limits and you've nothing to worry about. Simples
Yeah and of course you and the rest here that are having a go him have never sped in the whole your driving lifes. We all do it and have done it somewhere in the past , so everyone get of your high horses.
Exactly what i was thinking.
I know I'm guilty just wanted some advice on what I should expect as punishment and is there anything i can do.
-
Im not trying to justify what i was doing was right, I know it was wrong.
The road is a 60mph country road that has a small 30mph section with houses on one side, which i normally slow down for, just not this time.
-
sneaky coppers, they tryed to get me like that once.if it goes to court ask to see a CALIBRATION SHEET for the gun on that date for that time, because they have to regularly do it to get the bet reading on the gun and most of the time they havnt got it
I was thinking of just pleading guilty unless there is a definnate way of getting off of it.
I dont want to go to court and contest it only to lose and get an even worse punsishment.
The worst thing about it is my misses got caught on the same road doing 42 a few weeks ago so i know they are there and its a road i drive down daily.
Ive only seen them there on the two occasions that we've both been done in the last year though

hi ive just been caught doing 58 in a 30 and need some urgent advice.
The road in question is a 60 and then theres a 30 zone for about 300m, the police were standing behind a car they just pulled over.
They were using a mobile speed gun.
The road is manston ct road and the 30 zone is where the houses start and finish.I was travelling from left to right. The road drops down and back up where the 30 zone starts and finishes.
I was told that id be getting 3 points and a court summons and that the fine will be down to the judge and what sort of punishment i can expect.
Is there anyway of getting out of it.
Im sure i read that the police need to notify the public of any speed checks and that theres This Website that u can check or am I imagining it.
any help is appreciated

to be honest i'd get the pump the boy will prob offer you a warranty with it.
transporter the reason it goes quiet then loud again is the aircons going on and off like it should.
ps to swap the pump its easy but you will have to get your a/c gas recovered from your system and it willl be cheaper buying a pump than the seperate parts then paying
more labour to swap all the bits over.
If i get the a/c gas recovered when i put it through the mot, will it be ok to drive about without using the a/c?
That way i can replace the faulty pump and take it back to get regased later on

When the noise starts, does the nose of the compressor stop rotating or slow down?.... The fact that the compressor runs for a while quietly might suggest that there is a blockage in the aircon system... Pressure builds up and causes the compressor to lock up.... could be a blocked drier or themostatic expansion valve but this would need high and low pressure readings.... Of course it could be the compressor that is stuffed... If you fit a new compressor, then you will need the system stripped and flushed and you will need a new drier and fresh lubricant too, so it may pay to have a decent aircon specialist check it over before you splash your cash....
the noise starts when the a/c is turned on (thats what you hear at 8 seconds, then its turned off and then back on again).
looks like im gonna be spending some money then. Got to get tax end of this month (best hurry), mot in a couple of weeks ( mintex front and rear pads, and front disks being ordered) and insurance in a few weeks, And now more money on the A/C (cant wait for the football season to start so i can start gettin paid again).

Ive been having problems with my air con pump lately.
When the air con is turned on, the pump/compressor makes this noise (about 8 secs in)
Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load!looking at THIS it looks like I need a new pump/compressor.
Does anyone have any ideas on whats wrong?
ive been qouted £570 new from japparts and £155 used from need a part (lexus parts gateway)
I cant seem to find anywhere else that can supply the pump.
Does any one know the part number?
sounds like the magnetic clutch or the main bearings are away mate but hard to tell with out looking at it my self.if you look on eBay theirs one the item number
290096184389 the seller even offers free p&p.
If it is the magnetic clutch or main bearings, is it easily repaired, or shall i just get another pump?
the thing with getting a used one is you dont know how long it will last, do the pumps normally pack up or are they reliable?
Thanks for the part number steve, just found a site that you probally know about already.

Sorry I am slightly confused, are they connected to an IGN Live or the IGN Ring Light circuit ?
Sorry my fault. They are connected to the IGN ring light so they go on and off with the dome light.
-
yeah I connected them to the ignition barrel light

here's the latest pic of dials and stereo, sorry for terrible photo, was in a rush so kinda looks naff, looks great in the dark tho (even better when stereo on!! DOH!!)
did you do anything to the stereo leds to make them more of a match to the rest of the dash as mine are a lot brighter. I used 0805 smd's brought of eBay
I made these up out of the remaining leds for the stereo for the time being untill i get some others sorted. Atleast the wirings all in for now, i just took a feed of the ignition.
Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load!I know that i need to clean my car and get some decent mats lol
-
just done the stereo and window switch
makes me want to redo the rest again even more now to try and get a match in brightness
-
what method did you use for the ac mate?
I was going to use stavs method (thanks for the guide) but decided to solder 6 individual leds (3 leds-blower position and temp dials, 2 leds- A/c dial, 1 led- button illumiation) onto the circuit board and then spent the most part of the day sorting the position of leds to get the best spread of light. most of the time was spent taking the unit apart and putting it back together to test them.
When I redo them, ill take some pics of the poccess i used although i might use stavs.

A few more pics
dials
A/c without clock
Heated seats and trc/snow switches
Ignition and rear fog and headlamp washer switch
courtesy light
I know the photo qualitys crap but had to use my phone again
The bright spots in the photos are not as bright as they appear to the naked eye. you can hardly notice them.
I'm gonna buy some more leds and redo the whole lot and try and eliminate all the bright and dull spots. want them to be perfect.
All i got left to do is the stereo and window controls.
Once i sort my camera out hopefully i'll post some better pics up
-
looks good..
what were the 3x3mm inverted leds you used??
seems to spread the light a lot better
sorry, I should of explained more. They are just single 3mm flat top leds, I soldered 3 of them together on a pcb board and put them in the orignal holders and glued them in. I had to keep taking them out of the dials and keep adjusting the position of the leds so I got a even spread, time comsuming but worth it. (I brought a 13.8v power supply so luckily i didnt have to keep putting the dials back in the car)
I'll take some pics of just the leds wired together but not in the holder and post them up tomorrow
-
Looking good mate, I understand what you mean about the pics, vey difficult to get the camera to
give a natural picture as your eye would see it.
As a result are they bright enough to keep you happy and show everything clearly or still a tiny bit too dim ?
Cheers DJ
I think they are fine and Im happy with them, but there is a few dim spots but you have to look really hard to find them
As a comparison, they look like the 80mph in the first picture to the naked eye
Just got to do the rest of it now, Im gonna take the a/c and radio out tommorrow just to have a look inside the units
-
just a quick update on the conversion, after many hours making the LED bulbs Ive managed to do the dials and ignition barrell.
Sorry for the poor quality of picture, I had to use my phone as I cant find the charger for my camera. Once I find it I'll post some better pics
Note: dials arent as bright as they look in the pictures.
An early setup using the superflux leds for the t10's and a single 3mm inverted LED for the t5's
A final setup using the same t5's but using 3 x 3mm inverted leds for the t10's
for the ignition barrel I just broke the orignal bulb and soldered a LED and a resistor to the wedge base and replaced it
Blue Dash, A/c Stero

Dont know if I can post this here, but I'm part exchanging my is200 for a new car and need to convert my dash controls back to original orange from blue.
I wanted to know if anyone was interested in a straight swap for the original controls for my blue ones.
I've got the dials, a/c unit, stereo, heated seat buttons, trc/snow button, rear fog button, headlight washer button and electric window control unit all in blue.
I did this all my self and some of it was a solder job, so it will be a straight swap no questions asked.
I'll post some pics later once I take some photos.
Alternatively could someone point me in the right direction to replace all the bulbs and holders for the heated seats, trc/snow, fog lights and headlight washer. I've since misplaced the originals.
I live in north east kent and am willing to travel depending on distance
Thanks guys
