  1. Hi does anyone know which plug from the amp in the boot goes to the speakers and which wires go to which speaker?

My stereo doesn't work and I'm thinking of using an ipod for music.

My plan is to dock the ipod in the ashtray so the car still remains looking standard and go from the output of the ipod dock to an eq in the glove box with outputs to 3 amplifiers (front, rear & subwoofer)

It would be much easier if I could run the wires to the existing amplifier plug to save running new wires to the speakers.

I've found this wiring diagram but the colors dont seem to match with the amp wiring

  2. I currently have Goodyear F1 GSD3 on my car, but one of them suffers from a slow punture which is too close to the sidewall to be repairable. Is it safe to replace just the one tyre? Will it affect the handling?

I usually will replace a pair on the same axle, but I'm hoping to swap to Eagle F1 Asymmetric, and my understanding is you can't mix directional tyres (GSD3) with non-directional ones (Asymmetric, or at least I think it is non-directional)?

sorry but NO dont do it. you will be ok to replace the directional f1 with another directional but if you switch to an assymetric design it must be on both sides. the idea of switching the spare if its directional would be a good one or just buy a directional toyo and switch the rest when funds allow.

i am sure on this and have even heard of insurance companies trying not to pay out for this reason alone :shutit:

it will affect the handling in the wet as an assymetric directs water to the outside of the car.

also if you do get another gsd3 make sure its made in germany as they have recently switched production to china and the quality has reduced. (its written on the sidewall btw)

  3. I've hit the 92,000 mile mark in my LS430 and am due that big service when the timing belt must be done! My car has FLSH, Sat-Nav, Smart-Key, parking sensors + air purifier. Silver with black leather, it's a good spec car in good condition. (Dublin, Ireland).

A thought raced through my mind that instead of spening €2,000 on a service, I could spend some more and upgrade.

Any thoughts on the big differences between the 2004 model V the 2001?

Would consider this one as a good example of what I am looking for.

I know it has more wooden trim and different wheels, but what else is there?

you know what you have but never know what your buying imho :duh:

keep it and dont buy problems? my cousin would do the service for 500 euro max but he may be too far away? get a good independant? 877 801 433 paul

  4. If they are so intent on taking the car that they break into the house, it might be sensible to leave the keys near the door. Otherwise, you may find an armed criminal in your bedroom at 3am threatening you for the keys. The car is replaceable, your life isn't.

Oh, another thing. The GS and LS models are generally perceived as boring old man's cars with no character and being a bland drive. I guess the typical magazine review in the UK works in our favour sometimes!

Completley agree about the keys. if the theives are already in my house id rather them find the keys quick and go with my cars rather than snoop around the place looking for them, kids rooms, mrs in bed etc etc i love my cars but not that much! :whistling::tomato:

  5. :yahoo: Im back! sold my is200 in november as i couldnt afford the supercharger and wanted speed! bought an impreza but always said id get another lexus,

Picked up a mk1 gs300 yesterday (keepin the scooby as well!!) and im glad to be back in a lex, this time a "proper" one!

err no actually its not a proper one as it hasnt even got leather lol (legato) :whistling:

still im glad i never spent the 4k or so i was going to spend on a mk2 now as im happy with the car and i get to keep the scooby to "play" with, (although i do need some wheels, leather, lowering, tints, stereo system, ahem  maybe scooby will be going lol).

anyway i thought id better spread the word even the mk1 gs seems a better car than the is200 imho :tomato:

  6. just thought id put my 2 pence worth in here :tomato: i think you are all missing the point here :tomato:

fact: the is f is a masssive step in the right direction for lexus

fact: any m3 has always been an awsome car

    fact: audi rs4 deserves respect

what i mean is ive worked on, loved, owned bmws for years and if somebody had said to me a few years ago id prefer something made by the same company that made a corolla id have felt  but would i swap my IS for an e46 would i :tsktsk: but an e60  but would i then swap that for an IS F :P

    keep the pressure up lexus,

    keep battling bmw,

    try harder audi

either way im gonna have me a nice car after this IS :D

    am i wrong? :shifty:

  7. Have the Goodyears actually been discontinued, Aido? I'm going for 4 new tyres on Saturday and I just assumed they were still around. Certainly, I got a quote from the place for them, and they didn't mention it. Interesting.

They are being discontinued in certain sizes, mainly 50 and 60 profiles. This is because Goodyear now have a new model called "Excellence".

I think it will be a long time before the directional F1 is replaced with the asymmetrical excellence in lower aspect ratios.

well actually i work for goodyear and yes the gsd3 we all love has been replaced, theyre still being made but not in germany as before the design has been shipped to china of all places. there is a new eagle f1 which is an assymetrical design (not rotational but has an "outside" and "inside") i replaced my gsd3s with toyot1-s and was impressed they seem more grippy than the toyos, ive now fitted 18's with contis and and think im gonna change back to toyo asap. basically if you do go for the f1 gsd3 make sure theyre of the german variety its written on the sidewall "made in china" or "made in germany", thats my two penneth!

  8. hi m8 congrats on your choice of car! cant help with the seatbelt but if you need any help fitting the headunit gimmie a pm :winky: firstly get a facia off eBay and dont beleive the hype its not so hard to fit if you know what your doing :tomato: tell you what ill fit the lot start to finish for a nifty so go looky for a facia :P

  9. well im sorted now :winky: answer i was kind of looking for if it helps anyone is this,

remove both kickwell panels, the first plug you come to is the one you want, drivers side = green and blue wires at the top of the plug, passenger side = pink and purple wires at the bottom of the plug, saves hassle with door panels and running new wires, im all fitted up, kenwood 6025 double din dvd touch screen, removed rear 6x9s (to let the bass through) and fitted jbl tweeters in the rear with a fli 400 amp with sub control and a kenwood 12" sub, sounds and looks wicked and well worth the days work! now i just need a 12v freeview box :whistling:

  10. im changing my head unit and i wondered if i could use the existing speaker wires? i know the back ones will need changing but i was hoping to splice the front speaker wires before the stock amp and connect them to my head unit then just run the phonos for the sub and amp in the boot, does anyone know which wire is for the fronts going into the stock amp? i need some music and cant get around to the full install until next week :winky:

  11. Id go with silver as well matey, had mine done and was happy I didnt go for the granite in the end :) and it only cost me £150 all in at prestige wheel and tyre in birmingham, 0121 377 8866 dropped the car off at 9am and picked it back up at 5.30 the same day  good finish too.

went back a month later for some black 18" dtm wheels i saw when i was there though :whistling:

  12. :o How did he get that pic up, ive been trying for ages! took less time to change my brake pads earlier thanks to the excellent guide on here :winky: although i thought some pics would be good so i took step by step pictures, changing pads and painting calipers, now just need to learn how to post them :duh:

I cant beleive that up until i sold my audi cabriolet i vowed to keep my lexus standard, had it for 18 months and did just that, now ive sold the audi ive got allsorts in mind, i must be mad!, last month i bought new toyos for my refurbed standard 17 inch rims, this month i went and bought a set of 18s! (well the mrs WAS using the lex and she DID put a small mark on a couple of the wheels :P )

**** and ive just painted my calipers red and silver

Yeah ill be up for some meets, let me know when and where.
