  1. And still working fine on the old remote control Battery 2 days later.

So of anyone else has this problem, here's an idiots guide.......

    Remove lock cover

    Unlock car

    Get deafened by alarm

    Open door in a panic

Place fob next to start button

    Depress clutch/brake as appropriate

When light goes green press start

Alarm will stop after a shortish while

    Drive away from the location

maybe to Halfords for a new Battery

Well, that's basically what I did!!.......when I then started driving away from the marina, the key not detected legend disappeared off the dashboard....and didn't reappear until I returned to the marina.

Mrs jerome says Hartlepool marina is haunted...lol

  2. I've just had exactly the same thing happen to me on the marina at Hartlepool !......

So I entered using the manual key and started the car using the next to the start button trick.....and drove off to get a new Battery.

Car then locked/unlocked everywhere using the old Battery...until I returned to the marina, where I couldn't lock the car with the fob. Swapped batteries....no luck, so I can only assume that the signal gets blocked at the marina......

  3. I attended a 'directors invitation event' this weekend and asked about corrosion on alloys and wiper arms on the 450h.....not a known problem, I was told.

Worryingly, when I looked at an 09 rx450h on the forecourt, both the wiper arms and the alloys were bubbling. When I go to buy, I will insist on some extra cover for these. 50k is a lot for something that scabs up in 3 years.......now, what did I do with the Q7 brochure..lol

  4. Hi Sohail

I've had my 220d se-l for almost 5 years with no problems.

If you are getting one, they all have vibrating rear view interior mirrors, comedy gearchange till you get it right and a useless 6th gear. You should get the top of the range model.

My better half has a manual is250, which is a far better car-drive it like a grandad & its quite economical (35+)

I've had is250 autos as courtesy cars and this would be the version to get. its a smooth, fast, comfortable car.

  5. First time the plastic covers have been off under the bonnet of the 220, due to the comedy headlight requiring attention.......and i noticed the area round the suspension mounts are rather rusty.

Has anyone else noticed this, before I ask Lexus about it ?

Now the 220 has comedy headlights to match the comedy interior mirror and comedy gearchange !! ..It's great to have a car with character & i love it...the better halfs smooth, silent IS250 seems rather boring by comparison!

  6. Ahem...Yes......Twice.

    Mine is a 2006 220d.....try this.

1 do it outside your house

2 leave SPARE key in the aforementioned house

    3 walk to car

4 using 'normal' key, open boot/back door

5 accidentally leave 'normal' key in boot/back of car

    6 close boot/back door

7 stand at side of car

8 be amazed as the car locks itself

9 walk into your house, get the spare key and open the car back up

this also works on madams is 250...!

  7. Anyone work out where these scratches are coming from? I had them on the drivers side and now have noticed them on the passengers side as well, but its getting worse all of the time. My car is going in next month for a service, wondering if i should get them to have a look at it. My scratches are very deep so im wondering if there is anything inside the door thats causing them.

I understand that grit can get in between the glass and the seal but scratches have never appeared on any of the cars ive owned previously

I now have scratches on 3 out of four windows. Its out of warranty. I did try cleaning all the seals but couldnt find any grit. Approx 50 cars in over 30 years driving and i cant recall having this problem before (hence my original post). Mrs Jeromes windows & paint are heading the same was on her IS 250.

I am now resigned to enduring the scratches -- along with the comedy gearbox and easy scratch paint -- as I do actually like the car & the Lexus service.

Our next car was going to be an RX450h, but if the quality matches the 2 IS's we have now, then i can see a visit to J***ar or A**i being on the cards.

  8. hi all, i have just took receipt of my lexus is220d and i am loving it. unfortunately it came with a spacesaver spare wheel..... yuk. can i replace it with a standard alloy wheel and tyre or must i stick with this awful spacesaver? thanks in advance for any help!

It works OK as I used mine from Kinloch Hourn to Inverness when Mrs Jerome had an argument with a rock...and lost ! ... 50 mph max on some dodgy roads & we survived.

My answer is ..... would your insurance cover a narrow alloy on the back (or a wide on the front if it would fit?) If not, then its spacesaver (or 2 alloys in the boot)

  9. I know this has been asked before, but i cant find it on a search.

What mpg are the 250 auto's getting, as ill be coming from a 320d which is getting 43mpg at the moment, the demo i drove was getting 34 but im sure thats not the best they can do?.

I have an IS250SE-L. I done a recent trip(just for a drive) from Birmingham to Bangor(Noth Wales) back to Birmingham. There was a mixture of roads and motorway driving to Bangor and then I drove on the A5 all the way to Telford where i joined the M54 back to Birmingham. I drove carefully and did not accelerate hard, according to the trip readout the tank average was 41.9MPG I was well chuffed as I am used to seeing it read araound 32MPG. I am trying to upload a picture of the MPG but having some problems, I shall try to get that sorted soon

I did lichfield to manchester yesterday in mrs Jeromes 250 at 37 each way, mainly 70-75 on the motorways. My 220 does the same at about 46.

    all with 'gentle' acceleration
