  1. Thanks guys.

Today i disconnected the Battery for a few mins and its still the same. If it was a coil pack wouldnt it run and idle funny ? it runs fine just quarter throttle pedal to the floor. could it be a fuse for throttle motor ?

I have rang around some local garages and all of which have blagged me off to lexus main dealer. Skint at mo. could def do without that. any ideas on where 2 go to get the codes read ? im in middlesex west london.

  2. I hope someone can help me. ive got a 99 lexus is200 manual. I didnt use the car for few weeks and now i have the engine management light on. Also the traction control light flashes. The main problem is that the throttle pedal seems too have about 3 inches of play then some throttle for the last 1inch, which means the car is dangerously underpowered as im only getting quarter throttle.

I thought the cable may need tightening but i checked and it was pulling back right to the stop. it seems as-though the outer cable holder turns freely, but there is another cam closer to the block which is only starting to turn for the last inch. When i turn the inner cam with the engine running it can rev fully. This leads me to think this is a mechanical fault rather than an electrical.

is something missing from the cable holding cam to turn the inner cam ???

anyone have any ideas or pics of how theres is/looks ?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all. keep up the good work.

  3. lately my is200 seems to drive absolutely fine in 1st and 2nd gear but when you get to 3rd or 4th every now and again the engine seems to rev without transferring power top the wheels. In my past experience this usually means the clutch is on its way out.

What you guys think ? its done 103k

If the clutch is :tsktsk: how much am i looking at ?

    Thanks.

  4. I've had a knocking noise for about 3 weeks, i've had ball joints, wish bone, brakes, drop links, anti roll bars, bushers, shocks, and tyres all checked and there all fine, now it's starting to whine a bit so thats why i'm guessing bearings (if not then at least there done). Why do you think yours need doing are they just whining or have you had a knock aswell?

Just a rough idea £65 each for bearings from my local parts stockist, and i guess about 2 hours work at a garage about £40 per hour so I reckon about £210ish. I'm going to book mine in next week so will let you know exactly how much but different garages charge different prices for labour.

I'm getting n/s front done Tuesday, o/s is ok it's going to cost me £160 all in, i'm 99% convinced thats the problem although it's unusual for a bearing to knock!

Been in and had the bearing replaced today, knocking all gone, Happy Days.

Wandering if you can help me. Im getting a very slight knocking noise when going over very small bumps. Its almost like i can feel the knocking under my peddle so its definaltely drivers side. Garage has checked all suspension brakes e.t.c. Was this the same symptoms you were getting ?

    Thanks

  5. all sorted! :)

    Hey,

That was me, the no shower. He said to get there before half 2 and i couldn't make it. I wanna go today.

What were the symptons you were having ? I seem to get a light knocking noise but only when going over small bumps. Over the big stuff its fine.

Is it worthwhile doing ? and how much it cost ya ?

Im thinking of going in a minute.

  6. Hi all,

My is200 drives lovely apart from under hard braking i have a steering wheel shudder. Also the steering wheel is slightly off centre to the right to get the car to go in a straight line.

I have heard alot about the Dr. Problem is he is far away from me. Leeds i believe.

Does anyone know where i can get this done closer to home ? I'm in middlesex west london. Also any ideas of cost ?

I refuse to take it to kwik-fit.

    Any help much appreciated

  7. Hi peeps, just a quick query please from a friend of mine? :offtopic::offtopic: :shutit:

A friend of mine (honest :shifty: ) is about to buy a Audi A4 TDI (2005) 130 bhp diesel with GmBH bodykit and all the bells and whistles.. (tried to tell him go for a Lexus is300 – but he was after a Diesel :crybaby: ) The sales man stated that they offer an ECU Re-Map service for additional £600 :tsktsk: :shifty: , which will boost BHP to 170 and increase the Torque.. Sound great: coming from the sales man but need some real advice, so since you guys are the best source of information I said I will ask for him.

    His Q’s:

    1. Re-Mapping what doe sit mean please?

    2. What types of Re-mapping is available if any?

    3. Re-mapping it, what effect with is have on MPG?

    4. is £600 to expensive?

    5. Anybody else who can re-map the car?

    6. Insurance issues?

Has usual you help in greatly appreciated? :D

No problem i used to own a ecu re-mapped audi S3

1 . Re-mapping changes the program on your cars ecu (computer) basically changing how much fuel, air and the timing.

Done on naturally aspirated cars. I.E cars with no turbocharger has little effect. Where as cars with turbo chargers whether they be diesel or petrol re-mapping can have HUGE benefits.

Basically the manufacturers in your friends case audi will set the car so the turbo is running low boost so the car will have better fuel economy using less fuel and not overwork the engine.

Re-mapping will run higher boost through the turbo and more fuel to compensate therefore greatly increasing the cars BHP and torque figures.

    2. Re-mapping is just changing your e.c.u's settings. I had my Audi S3 done by REVO these are very well respected for audi re-mapping.

    3. Unfortunately re-mapping will use more fuel. Being a turbo though if you keep off the boost it will be bearable.

    4. Seems V.Expensive. I had mine done by big boys toys in essex. They are REVO dealers and i think i paid about £400 + VAT

    5. REVO REVO REVO they done mine and it was ACE :D

    6. Being re-mapped, there is no evidence of this. All they do is plug your ECU into a laptop wait 5 mins and away you go. I highly reccomend this but go to www.revo.co.uk they do the most renouned and reliable re-map on the market. The guys at Big Boys Toys if your near are ace. They took my car for a spin with the laptop connected to make sure all was o.k. They will change settings for you at a different date too.

I went back they turned my boost up for free.

Hope this is of help ????

Thanks a lot lexuslee, great advise and appriciated too. Will pass on the info and checking out the Revo site soon.

So best bet is go for it and not to warry aout the fuel since the smile on your face will be enough to forget about the diesel been drained..

    Cheers..

    Dibslpg

Correct. My S3 was 225bhp standard and with the REVO brought it up to around 260. I was eating subarus for breakfast. Diesels can expect just as much of a power gain.

  8. Touch-up paint is terrible stuff. Never comes out well. I'd avoid it if it was me.

Dont know where abouts you are in u.k but theres a bodyshop next to my work www.littleknocks.com really nice lads. They do a real good job too and pride themselves on small repairs. Prices are very reasonable give them a ring

  10. the one that was too long was not from a dealer - the lip spoiler is easy to fit

Do you know roughly how much from a dealer ?

Do they come colour coded ?

How else can i make my SE look like a sport ? Gonna do the grill and lip spoiler but don't fancy tinting the windows.

Also is the sport lower than the SE ? If so can i buy the sports springs ? How much roughly ?

  11. Anyone know where i can get a is 200 sport lip spoiler ?

I have read on the forums that people have had problems with them fitting. Being too long ?

    Where can i get 1 to fit a is 200 se ?

do they come colour coded ?

How hard are they to fit ?

    :duh:

  12. The battery in my car went totally afew months back and a mate of mine got me one from a scrappers but thats going now too (everytime the fan starts up when the cars idling the stereo cuts out as well as when i cranck up the volume!).

Any recomendations? I have zero money at the minute and nothing coming in because of work so they need to be considerate to the pocket too :winky:

Do quick fit still offer free battery checks too??

Isn't it possible to get some of those Battery tabs which you put in the Battery. They dissolve to give it some life again ?

Hope its not your alternator. Have you or anyone close by got a multimeter to check ?

  13. That does seem very strange and i would think about looking elsewhere. There are plenty about but you will probably pay a little more.

Surely something is wrong on the register it says 810,000 miles ?????? I know lexus's are reliable but jees.

There must be a typing error somewhere surely ?

The guy selling it works next door to me. Don't think he would sell me :tsktsk:

It did also say that it is an SE and worth £4,870

Think i check with RAC the mileage situation then ill prob just buy it.

  14. I done a hpi check and this came up ???????

is this good ???? It says there may be a prob with mileage ???????

    Shall i steer clear ?

NMR 'Clocking' or turning back the mileage reading on a vehicle is a major problem in the UK, costing an estimated £100 million per annum. HPI operates the National Mileage Register (NMR), containing almost 85 million recorded mileages. HPI Cross-references the mileage you provide against any readings previously recorded against the vehicle and advises you whether any discrepancies have been identified. You will receive one of four responses: i.'No mileage discrepancy is currently indicated by the National Mileage Register' - the mileage you have entered appears consistent with any other mileage readings held by HPI. ii. 'Data currently held on the National Mileage Register indicates that there may be a mileage discrepancy on this vehicle' - these discrepancies could indicate that the vehicle has been 'clocked'. iii.'The mileage you have entered is inconsistent with other data currently held on the National Mileage Register' - there is a difference between the mileage you have provided and other data held at HPI, which suggests the figure you have provided may be incorrect. iv.'Data currently held on the National Mileage Register indicats that this vehicle may have been subject to an odometer change' - there are a number of legitimate reasons for changing odometers, but you should be aware that the vehicle has probably covered more miles than are currently indicated. If you receive response (ii)-(iv) above, the details of previous mileages will help you evaluate whether the vehicle has in fact been 'clocked'. To find out more you can contact us
