  1. Anyone had experience driving both the Lexus IS 220D and a Volvo S60 SE D5 G/tronic?

Was impressed with the test drive in the 220d but after reading the comments on this forum, and the readers views on What Car? I am starting to have doubts.

The comments on the Volvo forums and the What Car? readers views seem to be much more possitive.

I am worried that after two Volvo's, after a few weeks of driving a 220D I may be dissapointed.

    Any thoughts ???

    Cheers

  2. The good lady and myself sat down today to discuss our options. Fortunately we bought an approved used as I never buy new. I let someone else take the initial hit. We loved the car as something different on the test drive, but that's all been tainted by our experience with Lexus Leicester. I have to say Lexus GB don't seem at all bothered about what happened either. If something has been soured by your experiences it is nigh on impossible to gell with it again. Despite that we've opted to keep it for twelve months sticking to our plan to sever all relations with the dealership and get all servicing and warranty work done by an indpendant garage. We're still on speaking terms with my old delaership despite going to another brand and that says a thousand words for me. I still get treated with the same level of respect even though I don't own one of their brands anymore. At the end of twelve months we'll be going back to Volvo.

It's unfortunate because the cars themselves aren't too bad. But the lack of customer care, attention to detail and any support from the head office mean Lexus will never get my business again. I only wish I'd found this site before we bought and I hope that any potential customers Lexus might have will read my impressions and go into any deal with their eyes wide open and aware of how bad they can be.

If you go into the dealer reviews section you'll see for yourselves what we experienced.

I have found the forum before buying, and I have to say that the comments about the fuel consumption and gearing are making me think twice. At present I have a Volvo S60 SE G/tronic, but really fancied a change as the volvo s60 will be stopping production next year. That being said, the G/tronic gives me an average 39 mpg combined, and 45 on a long run, and is so comfortable you feel like you are driving in your favourite leather armchair!

My main concern is, if I make the move, will I regret it........only time can answer this.

I know the Lexus is meant to hold its used value better than the Volvo, but I can get a fully specced S60 Lux with full RTI comms pack, Volvo assist, and dynaudio sound system for 20k (cost new 12 months ago £35k). So I think most of the volvos hit has already happened...

  3. Accept what you are saying....but

£19,500 will only give me a 55 plate 250 with a much higher mileage...

I think after reading the reports, the deisel, whilst not acheiving the specified consumption, it should return better than 10% over the 2.5 petrol....

The petrol is only any good (according to reviews) when paired with an auto box, and I do not really want another auto...

Then there is the tax..... I dont think it will be long before Cat F is treated under the same umbrella as Cat G is now....at least with a Cat E I should have a bit more breathing space if they hike up tax bands, which I am sure they will...

Horese for courses.....I think I will stick with the deisel....I am not heavy footed, so should be able to return 40+, especially on motorways which is most of my driving....

  4. Been offered a IS220D from a main Lexus Dealer....

07/07 13000 miles (bit high!) base model, metallic paint, with multimedia pack £19,500

or 07/07 10,000 miles base model, metallic paint, No multimedia pack £17,900

or 07/57 No miles pre regd car, base model, metallic paint, No multimedia £19500

Which is the better deal? is the sound system in the multimedia version that much better? Is the phone, sat nav, and rear parking camera really worth having?

    Fast straw poll appreciated.....

    Cheers
