  1. I have a 2001 RX300 that I have driven for several years, the car has now done more than 144k miles and so far I have been very pleased with the car and Lexus service. Several weeks ago I started experiencing a problem when the engine warning display started flashing, then went on fully, quickly followed by the Vehicle Stability Check (VSC) light. Lexus dealer read the error code as a random misfire on several cylinders. The problem has progressed with the symtoms now being an intermittent lack of power, all the plugs and power packs have been replaced, the engine warning light does not now flash but the VSC light is on continuously. The lack of power "feels" as if there is no fuel getting through. The car had an LPG conversion some 80k miles ago and the problem manifests itself on both fuels. Lexus suggested compression testing and this showed a small reduction on one of the front three cylinders but I am sceptical that this is the cause of the problem due to the highly intermittent nature. Error codes being produced still say random misfire. I wondered if any other owners had experienced any similar problems or could suggest a solution?

Hi, I also have a rx300se 2000 model, bought it 2 years ago with vsc and engine light on. Previous owner of car had new o2 sensors fitted before i purchased the car, but vsc still on. I ordered a new air mass flow sensor from my local lexus dealer, fitted it and problem fixed. I hope this helps.

Air mass sensor is located on the top of air filter box and is secured by screws

  2. Thanks for the responses. This afternoon there seems to be more confirmation this government is going to go ahead with the intended hike in VED for large engines meaning the RX is going to be a no no. At least until someone else gets in power and reverses the decision. Shame Lexus don't do a diesel version with the auto box or at least acknowledge the LPG conversions as far as warranty goes. Guess I'll have to keep looking.

    Thanks again.

The only other option is to purchase a pre march 2001 registered rx mk1, which is on the old style tax aprox £190 for 12 months. With 22 ish mpg's around town and a nice 33 ish mpg's on a run, so long as you don't drive like a hoodlum. Good luck with the search.

  3. Hey guys and Gals..

Bit of a Team Lexus Survey going on here... we need to know how you found the Team Lexus website.. was it from a search engine or a link from another site.. we would really be interested to know.

    Cheers in advance :)

  4. I realized today that I have a few long hairline scratches on my door which I believe came from careless people at work who park in the bay carpark and then open their doors carelesly scratching up others cars. Also they get out all their bits and bobs from the car and squeeze through with jacket zip scratches.

Just wondering what's the best way to remove these scratches? I have a pack of regular G3 compound don't know how to use it.

The scratches can only be seen in sunlight

    Any advice would be great

    thanks

Hi, got some really good stuff from monza car care based in liverpool, the are a registered agent for zymol car care products in the uk. Staff very helpfull and a nice range of products to choose from all at a reasonable price, and they do mail order. The product that i purchased was really easy to use( no hard rubbing) and it got rid of fine scratches and reduced the appearance of swirlls on my rx300 bonnet. Hope you find them as helpfull as i did.

  5. Hi, I'm looking at getting a Series 2 RX300 SE-L. I'm after one at the cheaper end of the market (and therefore no doubt high mileage).

Does anyone on here own a high mileage one and do you have any feedback on running it? Do things go wrong - the engine/suspension/gearbox? Or, are they very reliable even at high mileage - some cars I would happily run up to 200,000 miles (My alfa isn't one of them, my Elise is!)?

    Your comments/feedback is appreciated...

Hi, I have the great pleasure of owning a 2000 model rx 300se mileage is just comming upto 180,000 one previous owner before myself. What a great vehicle, a very well cared for example with full lexus dealer history. Appart from regular service work, the only additions to service history are timming belt change, O2 sensors renewed and air mass sensor fitted. I know i will be keeping hold of my rx for years to come. Don't be put off by higher miles so long as the history is all there, good luck.
