why go to toyota? all you need to do is charge the battery? it'll be free(or a few pence for the electrical power)

i work away and if i'm away for 3 months or more my battery is always flat, i just jump start it off my wifes car, take it for a quick drive and its fine. i now have a solar trickle charger so i dont have the problem.

I have a jump starter kit similar to this one: Jump Starter - Maplin and whenever my car had trouble starting i would be able to jump start it with the kit. Tried it last night and it didnt make a difference. I really think that the Battery is dead as i have had a few problems starting my car every so often.

I got a "Solar-Powered 12V 1.5W Battery Trickle Charger" from Maplin for Xmas (Item code L58BF).

Ideal for me as I haven't used the LS400 for the past 2 weeks or so.

What a great piece of kit for £9.99 - You don't get better value than that!

How does this work? Do you just plug it into one of the cigarette lighters in the rear or does it have to be the main cigarette lighter under the main touch screen.

Hi all, hope you had a brilliant Christmas.

I have had a bit of a nightmare day today, I haven't used my car for a few weeks since all the ice and snow and i needed to pop to the shops today. I opened the car and when i got in i noticed the interior lights were not as bright as usual, i then plugged my key in and the steering wheel did not come down to greet me. The car didnt start and it only clicked a few times. I have a Battery jumper/charger kit but when i connected it didnt make any difference it still didnt start. The dashboard lights did come on but very dim. The central locking also didnt work, it only locks the front doors and the rear doors are left unlocked even when using the key to lock and unlock the car.

Is this just a Battery problem or is it something worse? Can i just pop to a Toyota dealer and buy a new Battery and plug it in? Will i have to reprogram anything?

Well i did a longer motorway stint and i managed to get 175miles from my 42l fill up. I still only managed to fill 42l up from an empty tank.

I rang my LPG guy to ask about the larger 84l tanks and he said that he had never heard of one that size that could fit in the spare wheel well of my lexus. He wanted to know what the tank model/make was and he can look into maybe changing it for me. Did you have to do any cutting or shaping to get the tank to fit?

Ahh thanks for that, i was worried that i wasnt filling up properly. I am a bit gutted as 60l would of been perfect as i could do approx 200miles on that.

I just had mine done and quick question i got a 69l tank fitted but ive filled up 3 times. First when it was on 1 green light and i got 46.82l in. I then ran it till it beeped liked crazy and switched to petrol so i guess the tank was empty. Went to fill up and only managed to put in 41.76l. I thought i had done something wrong so i drove another 27 miles and filled it up and only managed to put in 8l. I was told that my tank can fill upto 61l but I dont seem to be able to fill it that much.

Sorry for the late reply guys was super busy at work. Went today and the guy i dealt with was really helpful. The bonnet struts had unfortunately already been sold, he did it for £30 for the pair. I was gutted!

The car is pretty much taken apart now and i managed to salvage a few bits of trim for my car but not much else. He is based in Gillingham link to the auction:

I found a breakers yard with a Mk4 LS400 breaking and i need a few bits of trim but was wondering is there any parts i should get while im there that are common problem parts to get hold of. I was thinking maybe the bonnet struts? Also how does it work do i ask for the parts and they take them out for me or am i expected to get the off the car? Can you do a deal or are the prices fixed?

Any help would be great for a novice.

Also, are they going to install your kit with "Flashlube"? Don't think your engine needs it as your car is a mk IV isn't it?

Phoned up to enquire and they said that the flash lube kit isnt needed but if i wanted it the manual kit is £55 and the Electronic is £200. I didnt go for it. I did ask lexus when i had my car in for its MOT about disconnecting the Battery and whether i would need a radio code and they said that the DONT recommend a LPG conversion. I just smiled and said thanks! ;)

In case you might have missed it there is a Ls400 Mk4 LPG converted on Autotrader. Think its over priced at 5k but it does have black with black trim which i would of preferred on mine. Not sure about the service history but thought i would point it out.

I bought mine last Nov with 111K on the clock, since then ive done 13k. Its an amazing car and the spec on it amazes me for the money. Love the look of the car and still looks modern even though its 11 years old.

I had the cambelt changed, alternator belt done and recently had the wheel bearing replaced so fingers crossed it will now pass its mot on wedsnesday. I managed to find a nice set of Lexus alloys on eBay as that is a common problem with flaking of the alloys. Its cost me a fair whack in the last few months but hopefully it will be easy miles from now on and plus with the LPG conversion im hoping the price of petrol increases!!! ;)

They are based in Knebworth in Hertfordshire. Im not sure if they are installing a flash lube kit but i will ask. This is the 3rd ls they have converted so they know the car well.

I'm booked in to have my Ls done by a company called Hertsautogas in 2 weeks times. I'm going for the Prins kit and its costing £2000. They seem to be a very professional company and doing some research on them has come up with all decent reviews of the conversions on various forums.

How do you get that then? I was told that the filler cap has to put on the side as there is nothing to attach the cap to at the back of the car. Would love to have a bigger tank fitted.

Gutted!! MY LS failed its MOT on excess play on the OSF wheel bearing!

Woodford wanted £457 to fix that and change the front pads. I already paid them £900 4 months ago for a service and cambelt change. I was also gutted to find out that my old MOT certificate that runs out on Sept 5th is now invalid and so I can't drive it till its fixed. Managed to get a local to give a quote on labour and i sourced the parts from the toyota garage. Total cost £318. Ouch! Booked in for this friday but MOT retest re-booked for Wednesday.

Silver lining quoted the '4 plus club' thing and got my MOT down to £40 and they will give me a free retest when i get the work done.

HAha I like to assess my options! Plus i was saving up for the conversion.

Well finally booked my car in for mid September. Went for the Prins kit in the end and managed to get it down from £2127 to £2000 inc installation and they take a week to fit which i thought was quite good as they seem to be very professional with the installations that they showed me in the garage.

Is there anything that i need to ask to get done or to double check that fit it to my car before they start?

Might be an option to look into converting your car to lpg. Im getting my ls done in a few weeks and cant wait for the 49.9p/l fillups!

How much was the mot as im due to book mine in for Sept.

I managed to find a mint full lexus service history mk4 ls400 for £3100 in black so i dont think you need to spend 4k on one. I think that the difference with the mk4 is a lot and well worth spending the extra ~£1500
