Re programming transponder key to work
Thanks very much for your info, it took me 2 months to get spare keys, it is not easy when you live on a tropical island, used the info from the website ie push accelerator 5x, push brake 6 times etc and miracle it worked. cannot thank you enough for this, I can now relax knowing if I lose the key I wont have to ship the car 5000 miles.
I also found that programmable keys are available [not from Lexus], if you have a master key you read the data from the transponder and then program the transponder in the new key to match. only drawback cost of about US$250.00 per key
thanks again LOBES

sure the best thing is to go down to your local toyota workshop and talk to one of the guys working there.... you will need one working key and the unprogramed one... slip him 10 quid and he will copy over the info to the blank...... or you can send me both key and i get it done for you here..... i work for toyota....... but im in sweden........
good luck
Hi Jay/Russel,
seeing you gave such a simple answer to the 3 button problem do you have an answer for me, I live in Papua New Guinea, a large island the size of France in the South Pacific, I have a 99 Lexus 400 for which I only have the master 3 button key, i would like to purchase a couple more key blanks, can get them cut here but they tell me without programming the transponder to the car these cannot be used. our nearest dealer is overseas 7000 km away, they tell me they need the car to program the key. Is there any solution to this, I dont mind sending the only key I have away but am told this will not help.
help anyone is there any way without shipping the car 7000km?
cheers

I have a 99 LS 400, the only key I have for this is the 3 button master, all keys have a transponder fitted, i tried to buy a new key in Australia 7000 km away. i was told the only way they could make the transponder work on a new key was if they had the car as well as the master key. the Car is in New Guinea and there is no Lexus dealer. [the Toyota dealer asked' what is a Lexus'] can anyone help? Is there any way the transponder in new keys can be programmed without the car?
Cheers

Hi,
sorry to hear about the car, With these new cars you require a transponder key, the ignition switch interrogates the key and if the transponder matches unlocks the main computer, unfortunately someone has developed a small machine which reads the transponder code from the key, takes 10 seconds, then memorises it. you can then buy key heads with settable transponder chips. With the ignition number written inside the driver door you can program a key cutter to easily cut a new key onto which you fit the newly reset transponder key and you have a proper key for the car. all you need is access to the car and key for 5 minutes, have you had it serviced recently?
