  1. I took the car into Lexus last week and they took some photos and sent them to there head office. I got a phone call today asking me to take the car to them and they are going to change the tailgate :D .

They are doing it under the 12 year warranty so im happy.

But they have given me a 2000 Suzuki hair dresser jeep which is miss firing and the check engine light is on. Was at least expecting a toyota curtisy car or even a Lexus  .

  2. Just intrested to see if it was eneybody on here. It was coming back from kidderminster and on the M5. Red mini with carbon roof was a good dual :winky:

    who won?

From the lights to 100mph i was a cars length in front but on the motorway he had the slight edge.

Sounds like he might have been playing with you!

More like i was playing with him.

Boy racer drive around in a is300?

 Never underestimate a mini B)

  3. Ive done 2 engines conversions into diffrent cars and i would say lexus running gear and engine bad idea. In that Ford you need a Ford engine or a light engine. I belive the best production NA engine is a k series VHPD engine or the VVC engine. the hole engine and gearbox weights 125kg and 160hp from factory or 190hp for the VHPD. Hense why kit cars use them and Lotus, Areial Atom etc. Also the complete K series can be picked up for £300 plus around £75 for a good ford gearbox and the adaptor plates are also cheap.

Carnt see why you want want to use a Lexus engine? Wiring would be a Nightmare. But if you have your mind set then good luck.

  4. When i had my wheels off painting my calipers i noticed my sportcross has or looks like it has rear shelf leveling shocks? Is this the same on the saloon as i want to lower my sportcross. Can lowering springs be fitted to these shocks or will i have to replace them? Ive has a search and i didnt find eney info on the sportcross.

  5. Thanks for the warm welcome.

My previous rovers where a rover 25 and then a VVC coupe. I also have a VVC mini which is very unique.

But like i said there no comparisment from a Lexus to a rover but sadly the 1.8 coupe is faster than a 3.0 Lexus which seems crazy. But the Lexus is not about speed so i just cruise every where now.

  6. The 300 is variable valve timing which is possibly oil controlled. Im not very clued up with these lexus engines but the rover vvc engine is oil controlled. Also Honda Vtec cars have lowered rev limits until warmed up to protect the vtec system so im geussing the vvti protection is oil priming before start.

There must be some lexus engine gurus on her who can confirm this  .

  7. Yep, so long as it's the 2nd generation one .... as the first designs were snapping the bracket!

They sounded wicked! Ive got a video clip somewhere ............ :)

Good news cos I've just ordered mine :D . Hope it doesn't snap!!

I'll try and upload a video once its all up an runnin.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.

Sorry to bring an old post up but as eneybody got eney pics of this kit fitted and eney more feed back about it?

  8. My is300 is the same and there is a good reason for it.

When the engine has been standing for a day the oil drains from the oil gallerys. So the engine does'nt start straight away until the oil is up to preasure. Most damage to engines is done in the first 5 seconds of starting so Lexus has built in a way of protecting the engine. Im 99% sure im correct as other expensive cars have this feature.

  9. Hi im Matt.

2 weeks ago i brought my is300. This is my first lexus as i have always had rovers but i did have a BMW for a bit.

Im a hands on guy and all of my cars have never stayed standard for long. I brought this Lexus as i wanted something rwd with some poke.

Gave it a full service last Saturday and i also painted the calipers and fitted the Lexus decals.

    4 Problems with the car

    * Tail gate going rusty

    * The brake dust is shocking. Only takes a day for the wheels to go black.

    * Automatic gearbox is very laggy. (i want it manual)

    * Car is under powered as a 3.0 liter. (slow)

Apart from the problems, im loving it and the build quailty is A1 compeared to the rovers i had :D

    Heres some pics.
