  1. The japanese domestic market cars have to undergo a huge test once they reach ten years old. Think its part of the law there. These tests are hugely expensive so rather than forking out loads of money on their ten year old cars, they buy newer ones which is why ten year old cars are more frequently up for auction/import.

The ESVA/SVA is a test the UK requires of imported cars and is different from that imposed by Jap law.

    sir,

i think you may have been a little ill-advised here. i lived in Japan for three and a half years, and had several cars. one of them actually turned 10 years old on me, and i do not recall this inspection.

the JCI inspection, quite similar to the MOT, can be very intrusive. the findings on the JCI inspection are used to calculate your insurance premium.

when/if your vehicle is involved in an accident, if your car is less than road worthy this can have an effect on the settlement, even if the accident is not your fault.

the main reason vehicles find their way over here, is simple, the Japanese do not have room on their island to store automobiles that they no longer drive.

they used to mostly just scrap them and recycle the materials, then some entrepreneurial men started selling clips, which eventually evolved into exporting used vehicles.

the United Kingdom has more lenient restrictions on motor vehicles concerning road use,

therefore, an automobile that is less than road worthy to the Japanese has usually been far better maintained than cars half its age in Britain.

  2. 2)no hidden numbers anywhere that will give you a key number

3)you can walk in to any toyota dealer give them the chassis number and they can get a key cut from that(takes ten days)

When i got my replacement keys the NETZ mechanic pulled the barrel out of the driver side door.

He either used a number from the barrel to program the key, or programed the barrel with a number from the key.

  3. does your car have a turbo timer?

if so, does it work correctly?

if not, do you let your car warm up, and cool down?

you may have a bad turbo charger...

if it is bad, and you do not have a turbo timer,

your next purchase is a turbo timer, then a new turbo...

i am probably totally way off base here, and i surely hope that i am.

but i would have someone look at your turbo.

  4. i think it may be a combination of several factors.

simply put, fewer Altezzas were built in the later years.

additionally, their popularity came about after they had been around for a few years.

thus, the people who really wanted them, but could only afford second hands ones are starting to snatch them up now.

if you think about it a car lasts several years if it is properly taken care of...

why get rid of a car that has nothing wrong with it?

    have you tried

the newer ones go fast, they love those things in Russia and down in Australia...

  5. sounds like your ABS is kicking in.

you need to check your diagnostics and see if you have an ABS or TRC fault.

if there is no fault indicated you should be all right.

you may just need to pull your speed sensors and clean them off a bit.

i got mine off using a 10mm socket on a ratchet

when i reinstalled my speed sensors i put some silicone grease in the cavity.

this does a couple of things:

    1. silicone acts as a dielectric and magnifies(or something?) the sine wave that the speed rotor produces

    2. the grease also protects the sensor from other dirt and grime

if your ABS is kicking in, and you do not have an indicated fault,

it is possible that your speed sensors are getting mix-matched signals.

someone also told me that if you have an aftermarket exhaust and the note is really low, this can affect the nearest speed sensor,

but i am not sure how true that is... meaning i could not confirm this in any way, but the dude seemed pretty sure of himself.

take that for what it is worth.

also check each sensor to see if it is still magnetic by seeing if it will stick to your ratchet.

if you have a lift and compressed air the job will take you a total of about 30-45 minutes.

without, you have to jack and remove each tire individually, not as quick, but still super easy.

also a good time to rotate your tires if you have not recently,

and check your brake pads and rotors for wear and tear.

    hope this helps.

  6. i bought stuff from them when i was in japan. i was not so much suggesting you buy those specific items, but those are the only ECU substitutes that i know of for the Altezza that can handle turbo charged fuel requirements. the greddy e-manage are a little easier to come by than the TOM's T.E.C. but most turbo charged Altezzas are running the Trust/Greddy kit, so the E-manage kind of goes with it... but the A'PEXi are supposed to be the better of all three. you may be able to take it somewhere to get it adjusted. I personally do not know how to adjust an ECU. but that is the whole concept of the A'PEXi, you are supposed to be able to adjust the fuel distribution to your specific needs. I am not sure if it will learn and self adjust.

a few questions to think about:

how do you know the A'PEXi is faulty?

have you adjusted the fuel map yourself?

what grade fuel are you running? turbos should run highest octane available, i think.

are your radiator and intercooler each running well, no leaks or low on fluids?

when was the last time you changed your engine oil?

You may want to change out all of your fluids, and check your spark plugs.

Over in Japan, a lot of guys will run the shorter life span plugs for the extra strong spark, so may need new plugs.

What are the symptoms that LED you to determine your ECU was bad?

And where is E910 with all the real answers to all this stuff.

He knows more about Altezza than Toyota engineer!

good luck with your problems sir, i hope i have pointed you in the right direction.

  7. I do not think that the factory ECU will handle the "boosted" fuel requirements.

I could, however, be wrong. I am guessing you will need something like:

    http://www.upgarage....08001007403/001

    or

    http://www.upgarage....10161002730/008

i am not trying to be a smart @$$ here, but why don't you send the A'PEXi ECU (SAFC?)back to the factory?

is it faulty because you fried it, or is it faulty because it does not work right?

just curious, because i am debating on whether to get the A'PEXi SAFC or an E-Manage from Trust/Greddy.

  8. i did not have to pay the queen's tax because i am a United States citizen.

i am currently living in England though, and i was living in japan before this,

i actually owned my car in japan before i ever knew i was coming to England.

since you guys are right hookers over here, i brought it with me.

i will be selling it when i leave England, in about three to five years (with good behavior).

i have no idea what the tax will be on your vehicle.

but i do know that i had to generate a VAT exemption form for the British government.

  9. those prices on japan-partner.com are indeed US dollars, and the price includes shipping.

they shipped mine to South Hampton, it was super easy to pick up.

you guys will be taxed unfortunately, so it may be in your best interest to buy one already in the country.

if/when you have found a car on that site, and you begin the process of purchasing it, if you want to, let me know,

and i will give you the contact information for the guy who shipped my car for me.

    he was very helpful.

good luck in your searches, and don't get discouraged.

you will eventually find what you want.

  10. Look here mate for more info on the Altezza:

    http://tezzaworld.com/

Right guys tried both of them sites couldnt source much info but I guess ill have another glimpse later but where is the best place to find Tezza's? Im after a Rs200 manual in white dont mind like I said putting cash ontop of my Sx but my Sx to me is worth as much as most Tezzas as its been looked after its got relatively low mileage and the paintwork is awesome for an M reg car.

    Pistonheads

Autotrader is what im using at the moment is there anywhere else other than on here (not many rs200 manuals under 4.5k) and Tezzworld's pretty much the same.

    Cheers for reading

    Alex

if you decide to use them let me know, i can put you in touch with the guy who helped me ship mine from japan.

  11. I live in Swindon and am looking to buy an Altezza RS200 in the next month or so and was wondering if anyone local (ish)would be kind enough to take me for a spin and let me have a little drive so I know what a good one, drives, sounds and looks like.

I could go and view one from a seller but there is a risk they hide things for a sale or I may take something abnormal as normal!

Also, is anyone looking to let go of a white manual RS200 with less than 70K on the clock (miles) in the next couple of months? Would rather buy off a fellow LOC member than pistonheads or autotrader.

I know I've not posted much but I'm 27 and serious about a sale and not just a test pilot looking for free thrills.

I just don't want to buy one with problems.

  12. anywhere for a good price on these? dingbro? would these be the same sparks from the mr2 engine? ( just incase the dingbro boy doesnt know what an altezza is )

    The MR2 engine uses distributor cap w/rotor to fire the spark plugs;

the Altezza engine uses coil packs to fire the spark plugs.

So, no, they are not the same.

  13. Like E910 said, most parts are the same as the IS200.

If you are handy, the engine is a 3S-GE, so you could get a lot of parts from Celica and MR2, biggest difference being coil packs vs. spark plugs, and longitudinal mounting.

There is also the high compression, but the MR2 has a BEAMS w/high compression. But again, the Altezza has dual VVTi(intake and exhaust), MR2 BEAMS I believe only has intake VVTi.

I have read on here that you can still order parts for your Altezza from Toyota/Lexus dealers, and the wait is not that bad.

You might PM ORMI, he works or worked for a Toyota dealership, and would be able to tell you more about the parts issue.

I would love to help you out on the gas issue as well, but I usually get this condition where my foot gets real heavy when I drive the Altezza.

And the only thing I know about the IS200 is that most of the owners get real disappointed about power after having them awhile.

There are quite a few owners on here who have gone several different avenues to remedy that:

supercharging seems to be the most common, a few turbo charged, and engine swaps=2JZ-GTE, 1JZ-GTE, 3S-GTE(from MR2), and I believe someone put a 1G-GTE in an IS200 as well.

Not sure how that does on fuel though.

There is also another thread somewhere here about different Altezza models:

Like RS200z, RS200L, TOM'S E910, NETZ Turbo, and the Qualitat Modellista.

The Altezza AS300 is like the SportCross with a 2JZ-GE, all wheel drive, automatic only.

The Altezza AS200 also has a BEAMS motor, but it is a 1G-FE (same as IS200).

The F in the 1G-FE head designator is supposed to stand for fuel efficiency.

But again, most of the IS200 owners are not happy with their fuel consumption.

i think you guys are missing the point.

and i suppose you are right, i do not really understand the MOT process, being as i have only been in your country since February.

i was told it is very similar to the JCI process in Japan, which includes quite a bit of paperwork, in Japanese, a fee for this, and a tax for that, and a very intrusive inspection of your vehicle.

but i am now under the impression that it is not so much as that, and only lasts about an hour.

that was some of the information i was looking for, but failed to find here.

i have talked with people, and found a place to have my MOT done, and i was told specific places not to go,

which is what i was kind of looking for here, not so much the tank of gas as a place that will not take advantage of the fact that i am a foreigner.

thanks for all the helpful information you guys gave me though, i really appreciate it.

i am sure people who have an IS model Lexus have little to no unsolvable problems with you guys around to help them sort things out.

we have names for people like you where i am from.
