  1. Hi,

Even though my car is 05, I have only just purchased it through an authorised Lexus garage and as such the unit was covered under the year warranty.

    Cheers

    MasterTC,

I also have had problems with my head unit. I drive an '04 300 SEL and often get the error code 3 or 4. I find that switching off the ingintion and restarting one or two times fixes things. On one occasion I had to remove the head unit all together to get the discs out and get it working again. When I complained to Lexus they said that a replacement would be over a £1000 and because the car was outside of warranty I would have to pay.

The title of your post suggests that you got yours replaced under warranty. Did you set a precedent here or have others on th eforum received a replacement unit whilst outside of warranty?

  2. Hi Petterf,

Okay from the knowledge I have picked up it is as follows: -

The old ML unit is: -

    - 11 upgraded speakers

    - ML AMP

    - ML head unit (with 6 CD changer)

    - No DVD playback function on the header unit

The newer ML unit is: -

    - Same as above

    - But with DVD playback function on the header unit

I believe the difference was made around the time that they upgraded the resolution of the sat nav screen, but not sure when this was. Sometime in 2006 I think.

Also there is a left and right hand drive variant of the header unit with the volume/power and tune nobs swapped from left to right side accordingly.

    Hope this helps

I finally bought me a 400h here in Sweden.

It's a 2006 with more or less everything incl dvd nav and ICE in backseat. The nice one with monitors in the headrest.

Only thing it's missing is the Mark Levinson with dvd playback upfront.

Do anyone know what the differences are between the ML with dvd and non ML?

Is it just a different head unit, another amplifier and oother/new speakers?

Would it be possible (but expensive) to simply replace one or more of those components like HU and Amp to gain dvd-changer and viewing and still get everything else working as before with sat nav for example?

Or is there more to it in classic Lexus tradition?

    /p.

  3. I have since verified with the Lexus Customer Support line that all Mark Levinson header units will come with a ML logo on the front. There are according to Customer Services some major component differences even in the header unit.

Hi Knitware - My understanding is that they all have surround sound in a sense as the basic system has 8 speakers and the mark levinson has 11. The speakers are there, however the replacement unit they have used does not have the ML logo on it? The key question is, does anyone know if there is actually a different header unit for the ML stereo upgrade or is it just a speak and separate amp upgrade that is relevant? I would think that the electronic components in the header unit would be different if the harmonic distortion tolerances of the ML setup are quotes as 0.01 db

I think that the Mark Levison has surround sound, does your replacement unit?

  5. Hi,

Quick question hopefully someone can answer for me. I have a 2005 RX400 SE-L with the Mark Levingson multi-CD setup. Recently it started to give an error 4 when changing CD's so I duly took it down to the Lexus dealer for a checkup. They told me the unit was faulty and managed to agree with Lexus that the header unit would be replaced with a new one. However since the unit has been swapped the new header unit does not have the Mark Levinson logo on the front of it. Does anyone know if this means that it is not the upgraded header unit or are the units actually the same? Any help appreciated. Obviously as the units are embedded in the dash I cannot get to the part number to check it out.

    Cheers

  6. Sorry Parthiban - Not personal... I was just venting my spleen !!!!

No worries mate, I actually agree with you - accountants with an actual passion for cars are few and far between so shouldn't be allowed as much power as they have!

Found this update on the lexus site. Says all European Lexus are not affected by any of the recalls

  7. Good description indy727 - that's exactly what it is: a slight "let go". The car is still braking, just not as effectively as it was a moment before. It's never got me into bother, but on a few occasions it's taken me slightly closer to things than I wanted to be.

Just to expand on my earlier comment - I notice that the needle indicating power/regeneration pops up out of the blue regeneration sector and stays resolutely on 0 regardless of the current charging level of the battery.
