  1. hi everyone! hope you're all well.

so after selling my IS200 a few years ago i now would liek to buy an RX300 as a weekend / leisure car.

I have a budget of about £4k, mileage etc not a problem.

Im looking at buying an SE-L

anything to look out for? obviously suspension issues are common. also cambelt - im guessing 100K mark? on my budget not a problem as most have done 140k

any pointers would be a great help.

    thank you :)

  2. Thanks for all your replies.

It's safe to say I have been put off the 220d now lol. I couldn't afford to have a 250 at the moment as I'm still 6 months into running a business- although I appreciate what you all say about mpg and given diesel still has that 5p a litre premium.

Strongly considering a Honda civic diesel now, sure it's smaller but after having a look round one yesterday I think it do me for awhile.

What a shame the is220d doesn't live up to the previous IS's :(!!

  3. Hi all, having been the owner of an IS200 for 7 years now I'm ready to upgrade. Strongly considering an is 220D and was wondering if there's a buyers guide please? I know we had similar for the IS200 some time back.

Is the reliability as good as the older generation IS?

I only have £6k to splash out so given the trader a quick glance I'd be looking at one with 80k on if you can offer any pointers on what to look out for it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Lloyd :)

  4. Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone here can offer any advice with regards buying an RX300 around year 200/2001.

My dads after one, for a short commute and towing the caravan. If anyone has any ideas what to look out for and some other pointers I would really appreciate it. Also, when does the cam belt need replacing on these? if its anything like my IS a lot were over due to Lexus recommending changing it earlier that originally stated.

    Thanks in advance folks :)

  5. I've got a Bosch silver series in mine, fit perfectly and it didnt even notice the arctic winter we had smile.gif

what model is Battery and where from please any link thanks

Here the Battery I have mate, think this is the one he is on about. I had to replace mine a week ago. I also used this place and they were very good delivery wise too :)

  6. Has anyone noticed that if you have something in your cupholder that everytime you change gear you knock the bottle over?

Everything else in the IS seems to be so close to hand like the radio controls etc, but the cupholders seem to be in a poor place. Or am I using too big a bottle?

    lol yep!

Gotta say the amount of times ive ordered a large cola in mcdonalds and regretted it after putting it in the cup holder lol

oh and the fact that the handbrakes on the wrong side! i'm just being picky - I love you really IS

  7. Although this is a common problem; have come across IS200s which are getting on a bit now & the lubricants in the ignition-switch mechanism have dried out making it stiffer. A good squirt of WD40 (other products are available) down the key-slot seems to cure this and make the keys less inclined to break their casings.

Literally just a quick squirt into the barrel?

  8. Hi folks,

My drivers side front seat belt id heavily frayed/damaged and I need a new one. well a replacement of course. used or new. Ive searched on a popular auction site and all I find is pretty much every seat belt but the one I need, or a seller only willing to sell me a whole set for £60+

does anyone know where I can source one? apart from being a safety concern I believe this will also be an MOT failure. I specifically need a black one.

Furthermore, has anyone had to replace theirs? and is it easy to do?

    Thanks in advance

    :)

  9. hi folks,

getting really fed up of snapping my keys. I buy the casings off eBay and have a place called duplicut cut they for me. they are fine and dandy, but they are unable to supply a casing for the key. The blades are fine its just literally the casing around the blade. every 6 months, gone through 2 now. lol. Pretty certain last time asked Lexus Coventry they tried to bend me over and said £180. lol- another reason why I won't go there again

I was nearly left stranded in Northampton last night. the key snapped off from the casing and the blade was in the lock. If i didn't have a pair of pliers in the boot I would been there hours.

This is similar to the one i bought last time

does anyone know where to get a decent casing please?

    Can anyone help me?

  10. It's a bloody terrible time to sell.

I had mine on eBay for 3 consecutive listings recently, not too dissimilar to yours. 2001 Y plate, Sport, Aero pack, Platinum Ice, 56k, 9 months MOT and a bit of tax with a recent cam belt change. It does have some paint marks and a small bubble on the bonnet that needs sorting though.

I started at 3200 and the best I was offered was 2650. Since then I've reduced the price but now it looks like all anyone wants to pay is 2500, which is probably what I'll let it go for now as I need to sell.

Considering I bought it for 4k a year ago, and have only put 10k on it, I feel a bit miffed to say the least.

    Good luck with yours matey.

oh no :( your horror story doesn't inspire me with confidence! lol

I can imagine how you feel, that's a fairly big hit to take in a year. I bought mine for 6k about 4 years ago so Im not too bothered. But at the same time I think if it doesn't sell I may just keep her for another year. It would appear that no-one can get credit at the moment either (unless you get a 3000% loan!) several of my friends are still trying to secure funds.

Fingers crossed with your sale, and thanks for your best wishes bud :)

  11. whoops sorry missed all the vitals!

its a 2001 Y Plate Sport in platinum ice - just ticked over to 99,000 on the clock

Full lexus Service history - 11 stamps :) with all the bills since ive had it to prove, work includes cambelt at 72,000 by lexus and a new clutch at 85,000 (the release bearing failed but I just replaced the whole thing)

No mods, except for rear spoiler with LED's , last owner for 3 and a half years (and very proud too) good condition, and my original CD player works perfectly too - no error 3's here ;)

MOT until March next year - and tax until January 2012.

Bad points - needs a new drivers side seatbelt - its fraeyed from daily use (is this hard to replace?)

handbrake light stays on (due to having rear spoiler with LED's fitted - again hard to fix?)

and 2 alloys are kerbed, although I have another set to put on/fix up

I had it valued by Glass's - trade in £1600 provided it was mint and dealer retail was £3295 (as if lol)

so I was thinking £2495 ? what do you think?

  12. hi all, its been a while since ive been on here due to bad health.

Im selling my IS200, hoping to get the plates transferred over this Saturday. Im just wondering if this is a bad time to sell up? a couple of my friends were interested, but they cannot get loans from anywhere at the moment - and im wondering if others are having the same problem.

Also where is best to advertise the car? not meaning to sound harsh, but it seems pointless listing it on here. Surely anyone who has a lexus doesnt look at buying more/ another? or is this the wrong way to go about it?

  13. Hi folks,

its been ages since ive managed to get on here :(

the time has come to sell my lexus, but before hand i need to do a few things. Mainly put my number plate on retention and refurb some wheels.

They seem to be going for ridiculous ammounts on Bay of e at the moment :(

whilst i highly recommend city powder coaters of brum i cant handle the inconveneince of my car being off the road for a week due to work. Im happy to purchase wheels that need a refurb provided they're not buckled. So if any fellow club member has some going then please get in touch???!!!

Please note: these are just the standard lexus 17" 5 spoke wheels :)

    Thanks
