  1. I've not long sold my RX300 with similar spec to yours but in excellent condition for £8k.........and really wish I hadn't now.

The market for the RX300 and other similar 4x4 petrols is very, very slow, if you check Autotrader there are plenty for sale and have been for a while.

My regret is that my wife hasn't been able to find anything to replace it, so we are now looking for another RX300!! This is good news because I absolutely loved our RX but bad news in that trying to find another good example is tough going.

Out of interest when we enquired with our local Lexus Dealer we were offered £7k against a £20k RX400h, I think it depends a little on the price of the car you are looking to purchase as too how much they'll value your car.

If you decide to sell privately then let me know further details of your car.

    Jules.

We almost did the same - but having spent 3 months looking for something new my wife decided to keep the RX and get it converted to LPG. Most we got offered on a 03 SEL with 80k was £9k, average was £8k and some idiots offering <£5k (seems that they thought 03 meant Mk1)

  2. Hi,

im new, this is my first post.

Im considering buying a lexus rx300, it looks perfect for me, except the tax and fuel costs.

Is it possible to convert to LPG? Has anyone done it? Any idea how much it would cost?

I know the 400 is a hybrid but i dont think i can afford one of them.

    Thanks

My wife was looking to change her RX300 for an IS220/250. After idiots offering p/x value on hers (2003 new model SE-L, 80k, FSH....£4.5k!!!) we decided to go LPG. Costing £1500 but calculated the running costs once converted will be approx 12p a mile. My Dad's just converted his v70R and that running fine with no loss of performace at all.

As for the p/x value, one dealer got quite flustered when I told him to find me one for £4.5k and I'd buy it off him for £5.5k

  3. Fuel light has come on today, and the trip said 415 miles, im well impressed with that, tank average said 37.8 mpg i think. Out of interest, the vented seats are not as good as i thought they would be, with almost nothing from the back rest, is that normal?.

Its a great car, and i dont know why i left it so long, i dont miss the BMW one bit.

Is that mpg motorway or around town? Be interested to know as have been considering a 220d and will mainly be used on the school/supermarket run. Going from an RX which is returning 18.8 but the official for the IS250 is 20-21mpg

  4. Have a go in a BMW 330d and then make your mind up on diesels.

I swapped my IS220d after 6months, as just couldn't get away with poor performance, gearbox etc and changed to a 520d manual which beats the Lexus by 15mpg (52mpg easy) is smoother, more powerful and better handling.

I did however have a couple of IS250 auto loan cars in the 6 months due to ongoing engine faults and realised I bought the wrong car, nearly as many mpg and so much nicer to drive.

Considered the bmw 3 but missus prefers the interior of the Lexus. As a matter of interest, what mpg around town was the 250 returning, the only reason the RX is going is the running costs, 18mpg is costing a fortune.

  5. I'm looking at getting an IS but have read a few horror stories on here about the 220d.

Would any members be happy to disclose reg # of any cars they've previously owned, that way should another member be looking to buy (via 3rd party obviously) they may find something out about the history that may otherwise have remained hidden.

If there are any legal implications then mods please delete topic.

  6. My wife has decided to get shut of her RX300 and has opted on a 220d. Seen a few on usual trade sites with high miles, not too worried provided FSH but at what point does high miles become a concern for things going wrong/costing money? She does about 15 miles a day so it's not gonna clock up many miles once she has it.

    Thanks.

If she only does 15 miles a day, how about a 250 auto? They probably are not a cheap as the 220d, but they are definitely worth the extra IMHO

She's considering the diesel for mpg... what would the 250 return arond town? currently getting 19 from the RX so imagine it'd be a tad better than that :D

  7. Unfortunately not, the 4X4 system on an RX300 is permenantly engaged. Yes, there would be huge fuel savings if that were possuble! :-( The alternative is to follow me into an RX450h, but then you'd have to weight the purchase costs against the fuel savings. In UK mpg terms my Hybrid is regularly giving 32-34 mpg, consistant 28 around the city & have seen as high as 37mpg on a few long runs. That said if you use all the performance all the time it is easy to get down to 24-25! ;-)

Cheers, to be honest the mileage she does (100-150 miles pw) doesn't warrant the outlay on a 400h. It's only used around town so averaging about 18mpg, she doesn't want to give up the comforts on the rx so think the best option re running costs is to look at lpg.

  8. Hi, new to the forum and looking for info.

Put my wife's RX300 up for sale but the site has automatically listed it as SE-L (ICE). It is the SE-L model but I'm unsure what the ICE means?

    Can someone enlighten me??

    Thanks
