  1. For the last twelve months no amount of polishing would remove many small marks on my roof or bonnet. These are about 3 to 10mm long by .05mm wide and are irregular in shape.

I called upon the local bodywork specialsit and he was positive that the paint was failing. The fault was caused by (probably) a too thick layer which would not flex with the metal of the bodywork.

My 300SE is six years old and I am well displeased that a marque renowned for its quality should suffer this type of failure.

I am seeing a rep from the paint suppliers soon so I might be abye to shed more light on this.

Meanwhile, has anybody out there got ant suggestions or comments or similar experience?

Lexus have no recored of any resprays.

  2. ...............................

I guess what they should mention is that lexus maybe have lesser problems than all the other car company's such as the ford galaxy which was voted worst on the road My boss wasn't very happy when i showed him

..................NOT THE BEST CAREER MOVE ;)

  3. This time the wife bent it. Denied it. Wasn't on this planet at the time etc etc.

Have replaced my GS300 SE insert before and learnt a bitter lesson, BUT Lexus say the part no has changed; from 86337-24181 to -3A100.

Unfortunately, the cost has changed too. Gone up from £25 to £43.

    Can antone confirm????

  4. Thank you maneesh and the muppet.

Sounds like a drag act :P

By the way, got myself the front and rear pads.

The box said Alied Nippon LS200. Do they fit the GS300. It's a much heavier car.

    The rears said Allied Nippon-Toyota.

  5. I want to renew my front and rear brake pads.

At £100 per hour, I do not want the Lexus Dealer to do them.

Just what might be the problem for any competent mechanic.

Is there a manual description any where on this site, or the web in general.

  6. Ahhh, thanks mate :)

I enquired about this when quoted for a 60,000 mile service. It took some arguing the case before the dealer agreed that I might be right.

My book, for a 2000Y GS300SE says 100,000 miles before needing a belt change, but, I underatand that Lexus moved the service spec to 9000 mile intervals for later models and specified 63000 miles for a belt change.

This puts £300 on top of the usula charges.

Did Lexus lower the interval because of problems or did later models have a larger wear and tear rate?

  7. keep the key in the ignition in the acc or on position for 6 mins then try again

    Thanks for that.

I went under bonnet this morning just to see if I recognised anything. Then I saw the label next to the Battery!!!!

    .....and away she went.

I didn't think Lexus would suffer from damp or anything. I just knew there had to be something

    Thanks again.

  8. Is it just me, or does the 'brand new' Merceces CLS 55 profile look like a copy of the GS300SE, apart from some increased drag - front and rear-t of the Merc.

(see Clarkson'e rant in the S Times Driver mag).

There should be a sympathy corner in the LOC for Merc owners. Steve could be the agony aunt.

  9. 5W30 is not really available in the UK as a full synthetic, either use 0W40 or 10W40.

....................................................Most Lexus dealers use fully synthetic oil but some also use semi-synthetic.

So Lexus use 10W40 Fully Synth then?

I don't do many long runs and only do 7k a year anyway. My service intervals will be 10k, as per the book, so I don't want part snth then, do I?

  10. I wish to purchase the corrrect oil for a service.

My manual says 5W30, but does not specify Fully Synthetic or Part Synthetic.

10W40 Fully Synth is easy to get and is specified for upmarket european cars, but I am a great believer in the saying, 'Nippon cars - Nippon Parts'!! and I want to stick to the Lexus spec.

Can anyone tell me what the right spec is? All my suppliers say Part Synth is OK, but somewhere I have read that it should be Fully Synthetic.

It is not an oil which is held in stock by any of my local suppliers.

  11. Rear light bulb failed last week on Y reg GS300SE

Is this the begining of the end?

Is somebody trying to tell me something?

Its been a bit of a shock you know. What with learning how to work a screwdriver all over again.

And it NOT FUNNY. You try keeping your dinner down when the light cluster is hanging there from its socket like a diseased eye.

I tell you, its been a trying week.

  12. Maybe it's me, but I used to find the old style dealer review/evaluation lists quite useful.

    Are they still around?

    Did someone pull the plug?

Or do I keep on looking in funny corners of the web site.

You know the ones, where we gave up to afive star rating for all the Lexus dealers in the land. It was a bit obvious who not to go to, but I expect that's why they no longer exist.

Or can someone redirect me plase.

  13. You don't say what year your Lexus is, but I notice it's a Mark 1.

My 2001 GS 300 didn't have car mats and I wasn't going to buy it without, so Lexus Brum took 'em off a new model in the showroom and told me that they were like gold dust.

They have 'Lexus' woven into the black material and come with holes for the plastic anchors set into the floor mat. Look lovely.

If they havn't got 'Lexus' on them, they ain't Lexus

  14. I've been slightly irritated by the lack of s seat memory facility on my, supposedly, SE.

I stupidly failed to notice the lack of this when I bought the car.

It's got all the other stuff mentioned in the SE spec sheet, alloys, leather etc , etc, but not the seat memory.

Did Lexus supply a variant SE. Mine was registered in June 2001.

What on earth would persuade Lexus to go to all the trouble of upgrading the 300 and not fit this facility.

I know, I know, get a life and all that......................but it is p....ing me off as my missus and I are always hot swapping the damn motor.

    Bl...dy good car, though.

Any teckies out there with an answer, or will I die not knowing?
