  1. Its a VERY easy fix, the cluster needs removing then the clear plastic front needs separating, once you can get to the needles DO NOT try and remove them.

What has happened is the black conductive backing on the needle has cracked and is no longer creating a circuit, you need to buy some of the electro conductive paint (the same to repair rear screen defrosters) and carefully coat the back of the needle, completing the circuit again.

Im in Yorkshire and would happily do it for you free of charge. (well the cost of the paint, £5???  I've ran out!)

by the way its the same special/secret/cant tell anyone how to fix it themselves and help them out..... procedure chris vince used to practice... without the ridiculous price tag.

Nothing wrong with red lining your engine, I find engines that have been regularly exercised to the red line more performant than those mollycoddled at barely tickover speeds. Stereotyping somewhat but the age groups that own Ls400s are much less likely to do this!

I’ve had 3 or 4 cars on a chassis Dyno, they all feel much smoother and more responsive to drive after a hitting the Rev limiter a few times during the test.

Exactly this. Just tootling around will do your engine, especially the fuel and exhaust system no good. I once bought a Toyota mr2 that felt strangled, after a few weeks with me it was producing good power and behaving how it should.

And let's be completely honest, the ls400 is adequate in its power, but by no means whatsoever powerful, so giving them a good kicking now and again will not only do it good but it's very unlikely you can get in trouble in doing so. The talk of without due care etc is bonkers. There's a time and a place to perform such antics, basically using common sense will give a good indication when you do so.. Although common sense seems to be getting rarer by the year.

It seems to me that at the revs you suggest, one would be breaking certain UK speed limits AND driving without due care and attention regardless of ANY  UK speed limit.

How do you work that one out?

1st and 2nd gear, both to the redline, youre still not at 70mph, so how are you breaking the speed limit??????????????????? nevermind driving without due care

Only reply if you actually KNOW what youre on about.

  4. There literally is no, "lets agree to disagree" in this case.

you stated "in any gear the car would be breaking the speed limit", to which it CLEARLY wouldn't, its not just my opinion that it wouldn't, its a FACT that it wouldn't.

Everyone is different and If you want to drive at a sedate pace, that's fine, that's absolutely great! But if want the ls400 to get a move on by taking advantage of the revs and redlining it, it clearly will do and it WONT breaking the speed limit on UK roads in the first 2 gears. It just wont!

You are not being practical The first gear slot is for special circumstances ,why would you redline a tacho when trying to drive slowly.Rocket science by the way is pretty straight forward.

were back to the basics again, Clearly if you wanted to drive slowly, you wouldn't be redlining

not my video, plenty on youtube

    apx 44mph in 1st gear, 66 in 2nd gear

both well under the speed limit of UK roads.

I don't think I have ever red lined either of My 400s ,in any gear the car would be breaking the speed limit.I can,t agree with you as the car is an automatic by the time you have redlined the tacho in normal gear increments in any gear you will have gone past 70mph.

The ls400 is well capable of 70mph in 2nd gear and is only doing 1950 rpm in top or are you just revving it up at the lights when a boy racer turns up.

    So you're saying a ls400 can do 71mph in 1st gear?

NO it cant, so in reply to "in any gear the car would be breaking the speed limit." NO it wouldn't.

Its very basic stuff, hardly rocket science.

also the ls400 is not capable of hitting 70mph in 2nd gear. So that's 2 gears ruled out completely

  7. Thanks for the reply John

The issue that im having is that 1 sensor seems a bit "slow". it takes an age to finish its checks and today to wouldnt recognise at all, it kept saying "checking"

I decided to let some air out and then re-inflate, I got it to register upto 1.9 bar, but it wouldnt go higher, even though there was 2.5 bar in the tyre.

I guess if i can fit new batteries then ill go down that route :)

It can't be normal as the guys in US are getting 18/19 mpg city driving and 30 mpg at 80mpg and 33 mpg at 70mph where fuel is worse and the gallon is smaller to.

According to what i have seen on the US forum and also applicable to any car the factors that can impact the economy are :

    1) Oil , better economy with 0W-30 vs 5W-30

    2) Air filter

    3) Tyre pressure

    4) Fuel quality , try some Shell V Power on a longer run

Also on Fuelly , your car seem to get better mileage : http://www.fuelly.com/car/lexus/ls460

Pictures attached are from US forum .

Im not even trying to be funny here, but its a 4.6L petrol car that weights ALOT, you live in london, theres not a hope in hell you're going to get anywhere near 20mpg driving continuously in the city. 23Mpg is about right for a TOUCH of city driving and then the majority of motorway (depending on how much motorway you do, that figure will rise)

The best ive seen was 31mpg and that was after doing about 300miles of 70mph cruising on the way to germany. and my LS460 definitly ISNT broke.
