  1. I've had my 2001 ls430 for about 5 years and it's always had an intermittant problem with hesitation (it kind of stutters then goes back to normal). Lately there is another symptom - you are driving along at a steady speed and it starts to slow a little and you have to press the accelerator down to get it back up to speed.

I suspect the accelerator position sensor. I've bought a secondhand one to test it out but I was wondering if it's just a matter of disconnecting the Battery, changing the sensor and reconnecting the Battery or will it have to be matched to the electronics under the hood.

    Any ideas?

  2. i had the exact same problem as the OP. The bodyshop said that the chrome strips are just held on with double sided tape and where over time some of the tape lifts it allows water to collect. Seems to make sense. It took three bodyshops before I found one that would do it, I think some of them just want easy jobs that don't require taking things to bits. The one that did the job did a very good job and blended the paintwork into the wing and the back door. To a non-expert like me it looks perfect. I also had the rear bumber repaired after driving into a post [i don't have reversing sensors] and one wheel refurbished. Total cost 480 inc vat.

  3. Hi,

my 2001 LS430 has a minor issue whereby when starting from cold it idles at about 1400rpm. The upshot is that there's a bit of a thud when you put it in gear. Is there any way to adjust the idle speed? Once the engine has warmed up the idle speed is absolutely fine.

    TIA

  4. My 2001 LS430 has been sitting unused in my garage for the last 6 months. After charging the Battery (and insuring the car) I took it in for mot. Needless to say it flew through with not even an advisory.

One problem - when winding down the front windows the weatherstrips didn't take any of the rain off. They are dried out and hard. Does anyone have an idea on what it will cost to replace them? Is the dealer going to be the only option?

    Regards,

  5. I bought a 2000 Lexus LS 400 last May and had it converted to LPG. Gas at the time was around 45p litre. I paid £1500 for the conversion and have found it to be well worth it. A trip to London (130 miles) costs around £20 at todays price - .63 per litre. I find it slightly annoying that the tank doesn't take anywhere near its capacity, usually only get about 25-30 litres into a 60 litre doughnut tank, but this appears to be because the pressure at the pump is low. If you fill up just after the (gas)tank at the pump has been filled you get a lot more in, up to 48 litres. Also the outside temperature makes a difference. Performance is hardly any difference unless the tank is very low, then the kick down doesn't respond so well, I usually switch the gas off temporarily, and back on immedately (just in case there is a hiccup). The added bonus is low emissions.

I thought about doing it on my 400 but since it had 145k on it I decided to upgrade to a 430 first with a lower mileage. A couple of questions if you don't mind - who did you get to do it? Which system did you go for and do you have an electronic flash lube?

    Regards,

    Liam
