  1. i certainly do hope as i think what the tank average mpg is showing is ludacris for any diesel

i know its well documented that the 220 is a lot heavier but still i would have thought 40mpg should be about average and would be happy with 40 as coming from a is200 which was giving me about 22mpg should still give me a saving not to mention the road tax will be cheaper which is also a help

ill have another go this morning with the egr bolts near the battery when i tried a actually couldnt get the ratchet inbetween the pipe and underneath

Remove the 2 bolts and the wire harness clamp bracket see attached file and push the harness with wires out the way to give you a bit of room

Then use a deep 12mm socket with a small extention and ratchet was just right distance away from Battery and you have got about a 1/4 of a turn before the ratchet touches the pipe which is enough to crack them off then turn the bolts out until finger loose there about 1" and half bolts. The gasket has bent over tabs onto the pipe ,i found you could hold on to tab to save droping the gasket then with the aid of a friend to push the sponge back remove the the egr gasket then you can remove the pipe like monacle says the sponge is durable and you can be rough with it . Once the pipe and gaskets removed crack to 2 nuts make sure you have disconected the 2 muiltiplugs then lift the valve off the studs complete with solenoid iused wynns carb and injector cleaner priced around £5 a tin from halfrauds.A tip hold it at arms lenght when spraying cleaner into egr valve or it kinda recirculates round and hits u in the face unless thats just me . Give it a scrape with a small flat screwdriver ,on the manifold side and use a hover to catch the loose debris,I gave it a little blast round ends of pipe to but that was resonably clean .Be prepared for a shock i was by the amount of build up and reduction i had . I have found an increase of about 5mpg to 7 mpg averaging about 37mpg to my normal 30 around town and 48mpg to my normal 42 on the motorway. youhave to drive the car very light to get anything decent mpg wise or it does cane the mpg I have also had the mpg around 27 when driving it hard ... and if the aircons on knock another 2 mpg off...

  2. have just taken off and cleaned the egr valve and mass sensor the sensor was very easy located air inlet pipe next to air box sprayed the fine metal sensor with crc air sensor cleaner spray the little sensor was dirty with fine bits of dirt attached next took off the egr valve and found massive build up of carbon in the valve its self and the manifold port under the valve was so full of carbon the hole which when cleaned is about35-40mm wide was narrowed down to about 5-6mm with the build up of carbon the tube leading from egr valve back into engine was quite clean put all back together and result car is much more responsive end eager below 3 tho revs and mpg up as well!!! pic 1 is port under egr valve, 2 is egr valve 3 is carbon that came out of valve itself! 4 is valve cleaned out

nice did mine this week looked very much the same thanks for sharing great pics

used wynns carb cleaner to get my little blighter clean didnt do the mass sensor though might be worth a look

  4. just finished cleaning my egr valve think it was replaced at 50.000 miles got 70.000 on the clock now was curious to see how blocked these valves become with carbon. The whole process took about 45 minutes and was shocked to see how fowled it was with carbon, there was no check lights on the car and car did seem to run fine although i did notice a kinda hold back sometimes but put this down to the quality of the fuel ie what garage i used .Now i only use the bp v+ and sometimes add a bit of sto injecter cleaner to a tank of fuel.Used a whole can of wyns carb and injector cleaner and scraped out the carbon build up taking care has to catch what i could with a hover .Looking forward to takin it a spin tommorrow to see if my mpg has gone up any was on average getting 30 mpg round town and 44mpg on a run ..

  8. I have rececently bought a Lexus 220d IS and have been very pleased with it for my 6 months of ownership. When driving to work the other day there was a total loss of power. I immediately contacted Lexus care as I had fortunately got an extra 12 month warranty and the vehical was recovered. I was told that the car had gone into limp mode!! 8 pints of Stella has the same effect.

A week later I collected the car and was told that due to the reduction of co2 immissions the engine has to reburn gasses. This together with excessive oil burn it caused the engine to get totally choked up. Suitable mods had been carried out resulting in new pistons and rings, a decoke and a new cat. Can anyone enlighten me with a more informative explanation?

1.is your car low urban mileage as modern diesels with dpf's do not like lot's of urban driving.follow steps 2&3 and you should be fine.

2.use the v power diesel every third tank or a fuel additive such as millers dps4.

3.if your engine becomes more audible than usual, take it for a twenty minute drive in third gear at 70mph and will help with carbon build up.

have found site that does egr valve replacenment kits iv emailed them to see if they do a lexus version has they only list vw audi bmw etc should get a reply soon im thinking about replacing the egr valve myself as these seem to be problematic might be worth a look if your thinking of keeping the car or it may help anyone else out there having same problems and are looking for an alternative ..theres a good insight into how these valves work to if you not familular with them might be useful ,will let you know if i get an email and they do lexus or email them yourself the address is as follows http://www.egrvalve.co.uk/ hope this helps..

  9. hi,

i'm from italy, i've a lexus is-220d sport 2007 and i've got the same problem..when AC is off the smells that comes out is not like parfum...it's more like a cat urine

i've tried a lot of spray cleaner, disinfectant etc..but after some days the smells is again the same.

have you finally resolved in some ways?

can you tell me where is the pollen filter and how to remove it?

having had the same problem with the bad aircon smell this is my experience first i brought an aircon bomb from Halfords think the brand was comma

the smell went for a day then returned so after a couple of days brought a second bomb did it again same again smell returned in a day then finaly i brought a new pollen filter from lexus wolverhampton priced £34 changed my filter and hey presto smell has gone for good...incidently i did try brushing of the loose debris from the filter at first and then put it back in the filter was a dirty black but that didnt work the new filter was a brillant white so its worth changing specialy if you wont rid of the smell..the filter is in the glovebox and takes all of two minutes to change if you look in your lexus handbook the details are in there it pops out easily has to be done in recirclate mode..finaly a smell free lexus :)
