  1. Have a problem with my 1997 LS 400 NSF door not opening off key fob.

Lexus dealer diagnosed that a new door lock, switch & computer required.

    Cost - £528 :o

Needless to say I am using my key when I have a passenger!

Checked with local Auto electrical garage: to examine door £40. They state that might be wiring problem or replacement motor quoted as approximately £200.

Am confused and would appreciate any assistance please.

    thanks.

  2. Apologies 35 years in IT and RTFM is used nearly every day.

If you have a Mark IV there are two compartments in the arm rest , a large one and a smaller one above it that is serviced by the air conditioning so keeps things cool ,normally called a chocolate box.

It all depends how you lift the arm which box you get access to.

I didn't know that, the cool box that is. It would have been useful for my water yesterday when it got up to 34 degrees in London. I thought I'd read all of the manual, I obviously missed that one. Well as the topic of this post says, you learn something new every day!

I always keep a bottle of Vintage Moët & Chandon and some Foie Gras, unsalted butter and French Toast just in case I see and stop another LS400 owner. Mike

Let me know when you pass through Newport, Salop :driving:

  3. Problem with near side front door not locking using remote. Does not lock using key in driver's side door.

Lexus Wolverhampton require car for day to "look into it". Local car workshop stated might be loose wire. If not replacement motor (quoted circa £200).

Price rather a lot for the inconvenience of having to lock from passenger side. Appreciate any advice please.

Old and poor (he whined...) :shutit:

  4. Hi Lexus gurus

I have been reading good reviews of Lexus LS 400/ LS 430 and couldn't find a single bad about these.

I have started to think to buy a Ls 400 or LS 430? As I like the shape of LS 400 but LS 430 has more to offer. But it makes me confused about a lot of things, which one should I buy, LS400 or LS 430? I also think about running costs how much would I need to spend on these annually? Are these expensive to run apart from fuel? I can covert it to LPG is that a good idea? Then it makes me think if I spend £2000 on lpg what if something big goes wrong in the car and I end up scrapping it? Then I start thinking to buy a 2003/2004 new shape BMW 5 series. It could be less expensive than LS400/430?

I am 34 yrs old and got 4 years NCD. I already asked my existing insurance company which costs me £430/year for my Daihatsu terios 4x4 insurance and they quoted me £3600 for LS 400. lol.

    Thanks

I am sadly nearly twice your age with full NCB and I pay £300 full comp inclu NCB protection and my wife is also listed as a driver. I live on the Hants/Berks border so risk should be around the same as yours.

I cant believe some of the stupid amounts quoted these days for Insurance, have a look at some of the other posts I have left on insurance.

Good luck with both finding a car and insurance.

    Mike

My LS400 '91 was last insured (2011) with SAGA for circa £400. Living in Shropshire.

  5. Been a while so I thought I'd update this. Having spoken to quite a few dealers it seems that very few are willing to take anything larger than a 2.0 in part ex unless there is a special reason to. Having spoken to a few private buyers too it seems that there are quite a few who will "call back once I've sorted out transport to come and see the car", or say "Sounds great, just checking the distance - I should be there in ..... hours (insert your favourite number here!), or "What's your bottom price?" without even seeing the car etc etc.

The upshot of which is no sale. So I've dropped the price, dropped the Pistonheads ad and stuck it on autotrader. But judging by the number of cars that are having their prices reduced it seems like the cutbacks and job losses in the economy are beginning to bite up here in the north west.

You could try E-Bay. I bpurchased a Merc 500SE some years ago and had to scrap it due to rust. got my LS400 (150k miles) there also. Spent a bit on tyres and complete service with Lexus Wolverhapton.

Drives very well and wife (most important :winky: ) and I prefer it to Merc.

Just a thought. Anyway good luck.

  6. Read your and others posts with interest. I have an LS400 which has 150k (replaced my dear old Merc SE500 which only did 118k but rust set in...).

Am very happy with my Lexus as is my wife (most important!). There is some brake judder but I can live with this. Lexus Wolverhampton carried out a full service and checkup just after purchase in July.

Gone off thread, sorry. What I wanted to say was good luck with your future purchase.

  7. hi,yes got my map updates two weeks ago - pz445-x01eu-09 - 08927-00956,86271-70v992,2009-2010 ver 1 cost £139.No it does not have post code entry.

I've never updated my DVD as I haven't really needed to so still on the original 2001 disc. Are there any differences with the new ones or is it identical except for the updated map?

Hi yes there are a few differences and updated maps espeacially as a lot of roads/estates,p.o.i's that did not exist 8/9 years ago have since been built.

    Hi all,

Just joined Forum. Have an R reg. LS400 obtained cheaply. My merc is getting too rusty so Lexus will do me for a couple of years which is all I expect to have. Will probably have to fork out some £8/900 for repairs.

SatNav is obviously out of date but am unwilling to pay the £120 dealer wants. Probably will use instaled unless I can get one a lot cheaper. Any ideas anyone please?

hi,if your sat nav has a disc find where it is,take it out,see what year it is and write down the disc numbers. Then input the numbers at the lexus mapupdates(i think it will be pinned here soon) and see what it numbers gives you for your update disc. You could then decide whether to buy it or go for a slightly older disc update eg 06 or 07 etc.Hope this helpps.

Thanks for prompt & helpful reply.
