  1. Thanks for lengthy message
I have 2 keys both worked before troubles and both now start the car. I will get them checked out 2 morrow to see if they are giving off a signal

The locksmith who sorted the barrel out also in the past has fitted new Battery in remote before and checked for signal strength
Will get back to you with further info
    Thanks for help

    Stuart

  2. Hi Chris

I think as I said before it is not that uncommon for Lexus ignition barrel problems,
there is plenty of evidence on this Lexus web site (past problems)

I tend to look at it this way the key and barrel are mechanical there are some bolt
    electrics around it

If you disconnect the Battery as I did and then unplug the

electric multi plugs your playing fairly safe or it that being simplistic

Did see that guide for adding a extra remote but it does not

say if that is for all Lexus cars

    Under (Recently Added guides )http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/tutorials/article/204-advice-how-to-program-extra-remote-to-ls400/

    thanks for help

  3. Hi

follow up report mostly good ,thanks for help, did enquire price of new barrel and key
£380 region, but was able to take my old barrel in to a local locksmith who
rebuilt it ,(£30)now works fine with original keys ,

    Installed

it back in car hey presto all good working rebuilt all covers and was able to
drive back home with an hour of starting rebuild

I do have one problem my keys are not working the door locks (I have to put key in

and turn to lock car), No remote. And I don’t think my immobilizer is working
    no flashing red lights

    Question
is there reset a procedures or is it a wiring problem

    Stuart

  4. Ok

    Thanks,
last little thought I do know of a locksmith who has successfully cut 2 keys
for me in the past, also a key with no electrics as I some time go out in
a boat and don’t want to risk electrics getting wet.

    My question
is when I present him with a new barrel, from Lexus, and he has blank keys to
cut where does he get the pattern for the shape of the barrel to cut the keys

    Many Thank s Stuart

  5. Lexus forum

    Hi

Looking for parts and advice please

Rx300 Key stuck in acc position will not move ,I had this a few years ago problem not that uncommon to Lexus after reading up ,I eventually managed that time to get going, but not this time

I stripped it down to aluminum housing and had to remove the Key Barrel (there is a poppet release pin that while holding in the acc key position you can pull barrel out)

My questions are where can I get new key and barrel ,does it have to be programmed or is just a mechanical part, and so can I use second hand bits.

Any help you be most great full, have done some damage to old barrel as it was suck not exactly in the acc position (which is needed to get old barrel out)

    Many thanks Stuart

  6. Go to your dealer, on line diagnostics without sight of car make little sense and can be no more than guess work.

    Thanks

probaly good advice, have tried one Lexus garage in this area 3 trys to get problem right ,but will try another Dealership

    Hi Update

Took in Local garage, they checked it out came to conclusion it was front discs,so had a look at Utube and did the job myself, top range Discs and Pads cost me £115 garage charged me £24 for checking it out wanted £260 for complete job morning work pleased

  8. hi had a oil leak as well but it was just the hydrolic motor, and pipes got sorted in two attemps by Lexus did not trust all they said some kind of cover up on second vist said they had found another fitting leak on pipes, cost with free oil ( i picked it up repaired one night back in garage next day)all apolgies and kept bill down on second attempt total £850

LEXUS Stokeon Trent stuart (ps been fine since) fingers crossed

  9. Sure i read in the haynes manual plugs dont need changing till 120 thou did mine at 104 thou, well bouhgt 6 off eBay and changed the front 3 in 20 mins (easy 3)was having some other work done at local garage, whers i had a LPG conversion done a year ealier,so they where doing a check on it asked, them to do 3 hard plugs i supplied ,total cost of work £ 38 ,just a fiddley job ,he did acciedently leave off the twin vacume pipes by the air infeed ,but soon noticed and sorted.

hope this helps,if you have small ish hands not too bad a job

    Stuart

  10. Well having first hand experience of this stuff dont do it. Its a short term fix for a long term problem. The chemical stuff can block waterways and slow down you water pump creating bigger issues. Being an ex MGF owner alot of people use this as a fix for head gasket failure but long term cost outweighs it.

When I was at my local garage, having code read they noticed small pin leak top right of rad they used a rad seal about 6 months ago been fine

    Stuart

  11. Thanks for that I will relax. Put first fill of lpg in today as the tank was empty when we got it. Looking forward to some comfortable motoring

Nothing to worry about, but might not make MOT,get it checked OBD scaned, most garages will do this for you for about for around 30 pounds some will not charge, you can buy which i did on eBay an OBD 11 scanner for that price,It will prob be a fault code for air fuel sensor (A/F) sensor code P1135 0r P1155 bit of a guess this but it does happen with rx 300 80 thou onward it did on mine.

Read up on this web site and buy one cheap and not too bad a job to do yourself utube has got some info as well

    search P1135 an P1155

let us know what you find

    stuart.law60@yahoo.com

    good luck

  12. I suspect that the confusion has arisen because as the respnse on Google which referred the fuse box in the drivers footwell referred to left hand drive cars. On a right hand drive this box would be under the passenger side

    Hi

on a mark one rx 300 2001year the extra fuse box is on the drivers side bin there a few times, its about knee high

    Stuart

  13. Hi,

    Very easy to replace.

Buy a blank key from eBay (for about £60), but make sure they are the same type (and length) and have the blade cut at your local locksmith.

Then, swap over the transponder inside the key case, as this will avoid needing your key reprogramming.

You can get the same from your Lexus dealer, but replacement keys are about £120 - as long as the dealer doesn't need to reprogramme the key and gets to keep the new transponder (at least that's the deal that my dealer offered).

    Cheers.

    Hi

yes brother broke one of my keys, took the bits with the blade to local shoe repair key cutting shop did the job for under £20 had to cut about 3 blanks to get it right,so would stay local with this one rather than e bay ,and i use eBay a lot

    hope this helps Stuart

  14. Hi,

My RX300 has VSC and check engine lights on. The Lexus dealer tells me the fault is with Bank 2 Sensor 1 and that a replacement will cost ~£300 fitted. I paid this last year when the other oxygen sensor failed.

From reading this thread, it seems that it would be fairly easy for me to replace the unit myself as I believe that Bank 2 Sensor 1 is the one on the manifold near the radiator. Can someone confirm this please?

Also, if I replaced it, would the warning lights go off without me doing anything else or would they have to be reset somehow?

    Thanks,

    Dave.

    Dave

Not sure who the queston is too,but will have ago at answer (mine is the tread above)Yes bank 2 sensor1 is by the Rad

fairly easy to get at,if you warm car up a bit the sensor will undo easy enough,(a little easy oil will help) also if the plug is hard to release use a small termal srewe driver to lift catch, while pressing down lever to release .Did mine one morning when it had been a cold frosty night and plastic plug was stiff and brittle

Use only the anti-sieve paste that comes with the new sensor, they dont like copper slip or silicon base products

    Hope this helps Stuart

    Stuart,

Many thanks. Will give it a go.

    Dave

just for interest what year is your rx300 and how many miles has it done

    Stuart

    Stuart,

I got the car new in Jan 2002 and it's done 61,000 miles. Apart from the A/F sensors failing last year and this, it has been utterly reliable. The only other expense apart from routine servicing is new tyres at about 32,000 miles and wipers at 45,000.

I'm still on the original Battery, exhaust, etc. The aircon has never needed topping up and I've never even had to replace a bulb!

I wonder if more recent Lexus cars are as reliable. I doubt if I'll ever have such a reliable car again which is why I'm loathe to part with it.

    Dave

my thoughts too,I try to do jobs service ect myself ,I know how well they are done then, had a sensor fitted by Lexus and hydrolic pipes changed (when i had knee opps and was not up to it) very expensive and had to take back twice leaking oil.But great car 1004 thou 2001 year with Lexus forums and google can learn how to do most things Timing belt next,Let us know how you go on Stuart

    Stuart,

Try as I might, I couldn't get the old sensor off so in the end I took it to a small independent garage in the village where I live. He charged £42 for fitting the sensor and re-setting the warning lights. So with the sensor costing me £80, the total repair bill was £122 compared to the £300 that the Lexus dealer quoted. Quite a saving!

My timing belt is due next Jan and the Lexus dealer says it'll be about £350 on top of £400 for the 10 year service. I'll also need new disc all round then too so I'm starting to think that I might change the car before then. Much as I'd like a new RX, the price of them now is just too much for a pensioner like me.

    Thanks for your help.

    Dave.

    Dave

Glad the car is back for you, garages not cheap.Never rains but poors they say,my car out of action again,Can not start it can not lock it,Key wont turn ,stuck first turn, happens faily often with Lexus from what i have read on Lexus forum and google other sites, must sort out today tumblers stuck i think delicate screwe driver or big hammer fix not sure yet.Drop me an email stuart.law60@yahoo.com
