  1. Average 33 MPG combined......i'd be happy with that. I getting 27.3 on my 06 220D with 40k on the clock!!!!

That's insane - there's got to be something wrong with your engine.

I'm averaging 33mpg and that's with the petrol engine.

I thought the same. The car has been serviced every 10K, the last being in February. I would have thought if there was something wrong, it would have been picked up then, don't you think?

Fuelly is a really good way to keep tabs on your mpg (click my mpg fuelly avatar to go there) - or road trip lite on Iphone free app

Just spoke to my local Lexus dealership (Swindon) who said I should be getting around the mid - late 30's. Informed me to take car in and they would run a diagnostics on the car......all for £60. 60 bleedin pound to plug a cable in and run a bit of software on a laptop.........robbing bar stewards!!!

  3. I have had my 06 plate IS220 SE for about 18 months now and apart from the disappointing fuel economy (Average 33 MPG conbined), I have had no problems and am pleased with the purchase. The car is just coming up to 85600 miles on the clock and is no longer under warrenty.

Last week was about 70 miles from home when the engine management, red triangle and skid lights came onto the dashboard with a message saying "Check VSC". The car then went into "limp mode" and I struggled home at no more than 40 MPH.

Booked the car into my local Lexus dealer in Milton Keynes the next day on the understanding that it was going to cost me £100 for an hours labour to check the problem out and then they would contact me to let me know what the problem was and how much it was going to cost to put right.

Had a call later the next day to say that the catalytic converter was at fault and needed to be replaced. Was told that it would cost around £2000 to carry out the required work but they were speaking to Lexus UK to see if they would be prepared to meet some of the cost of the replacement cat.

Had a couple of sleepless nights at the weekend worrying about where I was going to find £2000 to sort the car out. Imagine my surprise and delight when the dealership contacted me Monday morning to say thay Lexus UK had agreed to fund the full cost of the replacement catalytic converter.

I have just collected my car from the dealership, all sorted and at no cost to myself.

What I'm really impressed about is the fact that Lexus Milton Keynes arranged everything out with the manufacturer without me even asking. There is obviously a known problem with the catalytic converter on these cars and Lexus UK done the right thing and sorted it out.

I'm very happy with the Lexus customer service.

    Great news by the way.

  4. A couple of years ago, the firmware on the SatNav discs was updated to make the DVD drive in the car not read DVD-R copies anymore. Once you have updated your system to a newer version, you won't be able to use DVD-R discs at all, even if this copied disc used to work fine before the firmware was updated. There were some people on the net taking newer discs, but changing the firmware stored on them to older versions so that they wouldn't update the software on the system in the car, but would still be able to use the newer map data. With all this blatant piracy going on there is no wonder that Lexus have now started using internal hard-drives that have to be upgraded by the dealer using a special computer setup.

If you can't afford the £130-ish it costs for the 4-disc sets, try looking on eBay. Single discs often come up where people sell off the discs they don't need. I got an original E13 disc for Europe West (all i need) for about £50.

I managed to get a 2007/8 disc off of eBay for £10. Not the newest version but still 2 years newer than what I had.

  5. Great - I had this working fine but now I upgraded to the iPhone4 the bluetooth calling doesn't work any more :tsktsk: When I phoned lexus they said they weren't aware of any issues but told me to book the car in for an engineer to look at it.

Does anyone else out there have an iPhone 4 with the bluetooth working?

I have an 06 220D and my Iphone 4 works fine withe the Bluetooth.

  6. £1200, I'll stick to Warranty Direct I think :-)

I looked at these - they do seem to have good reviews. The price wasnt that much difference per year when I had added all the extras on to warranty direct so decided to go with Lexus - at £600 a year and so far no quibles. Had a drip appear on the pipe of the water pump, whole water pump replaced including fluids etc, flickering headlight 2 x complete headlight units replaced. There was no delay, it was just done completely FOC and valeted.

Lexus currently charge £760 (12 months) or £1335 (24 months)for the extended warranty on the IS. If I remember rightly, Warranty Direct was around £500 for the same level of cover. You also have the option of a Lexus garage to carry out any work, for a few quid more. I also dont need the breakdown cover, as I get this as a perk, through my company.

  7. does this extended warranty cover all lexus owners, and if so, what is the criteria?

The Lexus Extended Warranty is purchased from Lexus to cover you for electrical and mechanical failures etc. It isnt cheap mind, I paid £1200 for 2 years cover which includes full AA cover for the period but I have to say it's been worth it. Both headlight units replaced and water pump due to a leak - would have cost me over £2K!

Back to this point tho, there are some "extended" warranty parts covered by Lexus in response to a lot of failures. When I was last in Lexus they were suggesting the EGR valve was about to get an extended warranty up to 100,000 miles and as the note says previously, I believe they have extended cover for the head gasket / engine rebuild but dont hold me to that! This is normally regardless of age if your within the mileage limitations.

  8. Hi there guys,

I am new to this forum. I really wanted to warn you not buy from these guys. I had recently purchased a copy for my car from them, they are copies and they just give one disc. When I asked them to return my money back, they have never got back to me!

    I would avoid them!

    Hope this helps.

But did the disc work? Their website does state they are copies and that you only receive 1 disc.

  9. I`d be very wary of any copies.

I bought the original of the 2010 version and 'backed them up'

They didn`t work for me but I know they worked for others. I couldn`t get the disc to eject without the 'secret touch' :winky:

I even re-installed the original 2005/6 disc to roll back the firmware and still wouldn`t play.

But.....if you`re getting your dough back, then you can`t lose.

Has anyone TRIED getting their dough back though???????:whistling:

    The secret touch??? :winky:

  10. Every time I go over a bump, no matter how big or small, I get a knocking sound (sound like it's coming from passenger side front wheel area).

Took car to local garage. Mechanic took it out on a road test and could also hear the knocking so put the car up on the ramps, but after 30 minutes, could't find a thing (all free of charge).

Spoke to Lexus who said they could also do a road test but would charge 51 sheets to take a look on the ramps!!

2 questions, has anybody else experienced this knocking (it is Intermittent), and are Lexus right to charge £51 for me to be told that it's going to cost me hundreds to get fixed?

    Many thanks

  11. 1. It's behind the clock, use the 2 little screwdriver like things in the toolkit in the holes on the plastic to remove the panel, disc eject is in the menu's

    2. When you have the mirror selector switch either left or right (Not middle) the mirrors will dip when reverse is selected, if only one is going down then it sounds like you have a fault.

    3. there is a website you can go to for these (search the forum, been asked before), i think they are about £140, if you don't need really up to date then buy a year old one off someone who has just updated via ebay.

    Ben

Thanks for the reply Ben. What a crazy place to put the Sat Nav drive :-)

I have tried the dipping mirror issue. They both work when setting them manualy but still don't dip on reverse. Maybe I should take it to the dealer to programme.

Any one got any sat nav discs for sale?

    Thanks again

    Ash

The dipping mirror feature is only on the SE-L and Sport models if that helps

Ahhhh that clears that up.............thank you.

  13. Hi all, I am new to the forum so bear with me ;)

I purchased my first Lexus yesterday and have a few questions -

    1. I have the navigation system and wondered where the Sat Nav disc is? Does it go in the main unit or a seperate one hidden somewhere in the vehicle?

    2. How do I make my passenger side mirror tilt on reverse, can I do it or does the dealer have to programme it?

    3. Where is the best place to get updated Sat Nav Discs?

    Many thanks in advance

    Ash
