  1. Obviously its entirely up to you if you want to try and solder the smaller bulbs in but i have honestly never heard of any problems occurring with these bulbs in the past, i have had a set fitted to my own car for around a year now and am yet to encounter any problems.

I am however perfectly happy to exchange any bulb that encounter a fault :)

  2. @lightmeup.

Your dash and clocks loko amazing!!!

Been looking at doing my own dash in blue leds/smd's as the orange clashes with the blue car and hids lol.

Only thing putting me off was not been able to locate correct lamps for console air-con controls, speedo etc clocks and the ring around the ignition.

Not afraid of a little soldering or work as I got the car as a bit of a dog and am working on bringing up to spec anyway.

    So my question is...

Is there a chance you can list which smd's preferable the ones you have in your setup. (Blue) and how many of each I would require?

Also...Is the soldering actually to solder smd's into led housings or detaching housing and soldering directly to the stock wiring?

    Thanks.

hi sorry for the delay, have been on hols for a few days, for the centre console i ended up desoldering smds from bulbs i had, was bit of a nightmare tbh, as far as i know you cant buy the smds off the bulbs seperatly (unless bought in bulk), think i only used about 9 (will hopefully have bulbs in there soon)

Fitted mine yesterday, but seems there is a dark patch, wonder if one of the bulbs is faulty, I did swap it around and it went completely black when I did..

Hi Dean, just seen your post, not sure if you have managed to get it working yet but looks like the connectors may need adjusting slightly (little positive/negative legs on bottom of bulb). might need straightening up abit, dark patch like this would only really be caused if full bulb was out.

drop me a line if you need any help

always found photobucket to be the best for uploading pics

  3. Also to 'lightmeup' in your advertising pictures it looks like the bulb behind the fuel guage is either not present or in backwards as theres no light coming from behind it.

Its more noticeable with that kit because the rest of it is so bright, but you can see how the light behind the Odometer fades from bright blue to a duller dark blue.

I've just ordered the white version of the kit, as I've got fed up with the replacement bulbs I bought coming lose in there housings an blinking on and off. And I don't want to solder them in incase I want to switch back the the original orange ones at some point.

    Cheers for that :)

Yeah my bad took pic when i was trying different colours (might beable to see on pic i posted on page 1 that i had red in for fuel gauge) must have forgot to put blue bulb back in for photo

    thanks for pointing it out

White looks sweet mind, glad ur happy

  4. That looks real good! Is it awkward to fit the bulbs into the heater console, mine centre console as out at the min so if I know what to do, i'll do it while its out. Did u just buy the seperate bulbs for the centre consle then, and if so where from?

I didnt use bulbs to convert mine as the bulbs that were available at the time werent bright enough to light it properly :( i ended up doing alot of soldering with individual SMDs to get it right.

Sorry couldnt give a more straight forward answer :(

  5. I was looking into getting the kit, but i think it would look odd as it will not match the centre consle

    Orange and blue???

Or maybe its just me wanting to be a perfectionist.... :winky:

Centre console is a bit more tricky, standard LEDs normally dont produce a wide enough light angle for full coverage and due to the lack of space its hard to fit much in there,

What about doing dash white instead of blue?

Here is mine, custom conversion with SMDs (due to bulbs not being bright enough this was done by soldering SMDS to replace the original bulbs)

Sorry bout watermark (force of habit due to photos being used without permission :()

Currently testing new bulbs to get the same effect.

  6. What is the actual difference between SMD and LED, because the first kit is stated as SMD in the description but LED in the title, so how do you know what you are buying?

The only reason behind this is due to the fact that people will usually search for 'LED dash kit' not for smds so it is purely to get the most out of search results. I will look at possibly changing the listing titles when it comes to relisting time.

The kit in the first link consists of SMD bulbs, these have 5 points of light each emitting a 180 degree angle of light,

LED bulbs are either a flat or domed top bulbs which give off a smaller and therefore less bright light coverage

I cant say what bulbs the second link provides in the kit as i dont know.

I do have other pictures available if anyone requires them, feel free to ask.

  7. hi, bit out of the blue but came across this thread whilst doing internet research, sorry if im breaking any rules, please forgive me (remove post if necessary).

the first eBay link is actually my own listing, i would just like to confirm that the kits contain blubs that were researched to be the best for the lexus dash, we tried numerous bulbs before settling on these. They are not cheap LED bulbs, they use extremely bright SMDs (not LEDs)

once again im not trying to plug the link as its up to you what you buy, i just wanted to shed some light (excuse the pun) on the thread.

    thanks

    Steve

As above do it yourself, them kits are cheap LED's that arent very bright
