  1. Is the red security light out once the key is inserted? Sounds like the immobiliser has maybe kicked in. Did the battery go flat needing a jump? Maybe try leaving the ignition switched on (not started) for 10 minutes. Remove key and retry. Other than that, check fuel level and fuses next.

The AA came out and sorted it. Turned out to be a flooded engine caused by a short move when i repositioned the car in the drive then switched off again. Apparently Lexus, Mercs and BMWs are prone to doing this...

The car is due a service so will ensure this includes a new set of spark plugs...

The Battery isnt in the best state but the engine spins merrily enough. I'm hoping it's an electronic issue rather than mechanical as I understand even a broken timing belt could be to blame.

Cars (and central heating boilers) always seem to kick you in the teeth during cold holidays. I've gone & joined the AA & hopefully their tech can sort it later.

  3. Hello all my MK2 GS300 Sport inexplicably refused to budge just now. The engine turned as normal and fired up for a split second before dying.

Now it just turns over freely as if the starter isnt connected to anything on the car.

    Any ideas?

  4. Help folks

My front coils springs on my sport are both cracked/broken (on the bottom coils) and I notice that the springs are Eibachs. Is this standard on the sport (considering the factory lower ride height) or are these springs aftermarket? I have a pair of struts from a GS300 SE but the ride height is too high for the sport.

Ideally, I'd need just a pair of coils to go with the new shocks.

  5. Hi,

if the bearing is loose/damaged, could that cause a sharp knock sound. I have always tough that if bearing is damaged, the sound is more like humming sound, not sharp knock. Every time I put the Ls400 to D or Reverse, or when leaving from standstill to speed I get this knock from left front suspension. Also garage told me that bearing is damaged in the front left, so do you think these are same or different problem?

My GS300 brakes had a really annoying, loud rattling sound as well as the droning/humming noise. I knew the bearing on the right was shot, but focusing on the rattling I changed everything - sway bar bushings, droplinks, brake pads etc & the noise continued. My nephew convinced me that both bearings were very bad as he could reproduce the noise with the wheels off the ground by basically thumping the tyre to recreate it hitting a bump. I had them changed (bought bearings for £100 from auto factors, and fitted both sides for £120) and the rattling is gone now.

There is a barely-perceptible 'clunk' remaining when you put the car in gear or reverse or put in a full lock, but I'm going to install a brake fitting kit & hope that really sorts me out.

  6. Just wondering whether there is a gap in the market or have I missed the fact that warranties are indeed offered for cars older than 10 years with over 100k miles on the clock, which quite often are as reliable as newer, fresher models?

Seems discriminatory to me if the powers that be wont have it...

  7. Is anyone running 245 45 18s on their MK2 GS300 Sport?

I need to replace my tyres and I'm thinking that the higher profile might soften the ride on the horrendously potted, speed-bump-riddled Southeast London roads I frequent. But at no compromise to looks...

  8. Hello peeps it's great to be part of the Lexus family. I've just bought a Mark 2 GS300 sport and I love it despite its issues I'm trying to resolve. Definitely a car for keeps for me...
