  1. also does it matter which type I get as I saw some models have screw in versions, and some clip ons

I think mine is a clip on, because I doubt someone opened the mirror, unscrewed the cover and put the mirror back on.

mines a 2002 IS if that helps.

I am going to phone around some breakers today just wanted to know how much I should be expecting price wise, and whether the non clip ons will work on my IS.

  2. Just had a shocking week, and last night just topped it of!

last Tuesday, some idiot sky driver pulled out of the parking space with no way near enough room, and swiped the front bumper on my IS. I found it was a sky driver when I rewound the CCTV. But sky were quick to say he could be a contractor so if theres no number plate they can't do much! :(

Now I woke up this morning, and found my lip spoiler had been stolen!

Rewound the CCTV to find two hooded men, who first went round the car and then decided to pull the spoiler off. From one of my camera angles I managed to see it was in fact a black IS200 which the men got out from, so no doubt stole the spoiler for their car.

It just makes me sick that for the sake of a £25 spoiler, people would resort to steeling, I mean if you can afford to run an is200, surley you can afford £25 rather than thieving one!

On both events, the number plates arent visible :(

Im just more annoyed that one Lexus owner would do that to another!

  3. Nice one auzzam, looks really good mate. Did you get you camera fitted after?

I still have an additional input on my Navtool so been meaning to connect the iphone. Did you use the apple AV cable? Also will TVap2 mirror everything on the iphone screen?

    Hi Red,

I havent got round to fitting in the camera, might well be looking at parking sensors as an alternative or a smaller low key camera.

Yes I used the original apple av cable (a cousin of mine had one lying around). And TVout2 mirrors everything and even lets you adjust the output display size.

  4. thanks, glad you liked it.

I used a diagram the Geoffers made up for me :

    along with this post :

in regards to the cable going to the monitor it simply plugs into the AV inputs on the screen, and runs alongside the centre console. I had to drill a hole in the pocket to fit the dock connector in. I could knock up a quick diagram to better explain it tomorrow.

  5. Hi Guys,

Over the last few months I have been working on a small project on my is200. I wanted to be able to use the Iphone to play music without having to change the headunit. With help from Geoffers (TOP BLOKE!) I managed to create an AUX in switch which would allow my Iphone music to come through the car speakers (the AUX in switch is shown at the start of the video approx 24 seconds). This Iphone craze quickly increased as I found myself a sat nav housing with a built in monitor.

I started thinking of the possibilities as having been a user of an Iphone for a number of years and knowing how powerful it can be I set to work on fully integrating it with my is200. I had to remove the centre console to feed the video lead into the position I wanted it (because whilst driving I didn't want the Iphone to be visible.)

Having it mounted in this posistion allowed for optimum control when changing the songs without having to look at the screen, simply open the the flap, swipe down and your next track will play. (as shown in the video)

I then thought my sat nav screen (which is just a monitor by the way) could actually benefit from having a sat nav. Having used a TomTom most my driving career, I downloaded the TomTom app and it works just like the real deal except now you dont have to annoyingly stick it on the windscreen.

Ever since I was working on this, I thought it would be a really cool thing if I could somehow replicate the computer present in the GTR. I found this app last week, and have been using it ever since. The Iphone comes with a built in accelerometer which is supposed to be within 0.001 of accuracy. Its pretty fun to keep an eye on the amount of G's your pulling and also to see your average speed. The app has a lot more settings such as outside temperature etc.

There was also a speed app, which I forgot to include in the video but its pretty much a novelty speedo that shows what your current speed is via GPS . On cruise control at 50 .. the app showed 48 so not bad at all.

When using the TomTom and other GPS this tends to eat into my iphones Battery life so I added the functionality of USB Charging (also visible in the video)

Live TV works really well, I have used it numerous times especially when parked up waiting for some one. It works great whilst driving (for passengers view) and doesnt break up over 3g. A great alternative to free view.

Last but not least here is the video to see it all in action. Hope you like it, and perhaps I have inspired some of you to try a similar venture.

Full list of Apps used :

Jailbroken app to mirror onto screen : TvOut2

    GTR Style Computer : Zilla

    Music Player : Flicktunes

    Sat Nav : TomTom

    Speed : Speedbox

  6. This way you wont be able to adjust fader, bass and treble from head unit. and volume will be controlled trough your player...

    This is what i did

    Boergy's pictures

so just to be clear.. will this way allow me to adjust all the settings, when using only the stereo (e.g for cd/tape) or do I lose the functionality all together

Sorry, I did not understand what you mean, but the first way, your head unit will be useless since aux is connected directly to amplifier.

in my (Boergy's) way, your head unit 'thinks' it is playing cassete when in real time your mp3 player is the source of sound. head unit works as it does on radio, cd or tape mode...

as for GROM adapter... simple solutions cost money. soldering wire to main board will cost you few punds for the wire only

thanks that is what I meant, sorry for not being clear... one more thing what happens when you actually place a real cassette in there? does it play or only play the external source

also I can see where abouts the area is, where you have soldered, but can you explain the wire you are attaching to it... what wire is it and how come it splits into three? are they two different phonos which have been split?

sorry for pestering, but it seems a very good option at the moment, especially if the quality is good, and if I dont lose the normal funtionality of the tape, as my dad has several cassettes he listens to.

  8. Hi,

Just wanted to ask a quick question, I will be mounting a rear view camera to my is200 this weekend, I want to avoid drilling into the bumper? where would be the best alternative? where have anyone who has carried out this mod mounted the camera.

    any help appreciated

    thanks

  9. I spend an "age" trying to find a matching taillight for mine. I wouldn't worry about it being brand new they don't normally get much abuse! they are £78 New from Lexus.

Thanks for the reply, will it be the same price from any lexus dealer? also do you get a discount if you are a member of this forum?

  10. Hi Guys,

recently some complete moron clipped my car on the way out, he didnt even bother to stop. He ended up denting my bumper and cracking my driver side tail light.

I wanted to know where is the cheapest place to buy preferably a brand new one... I'm after a 2003 tail light (with the blackish inside).

another alternative I'm looking at is buying any tail light and heating up and removing the lens and swapping it, because its only the lens that is broken.

The cheapest brand new light I have found is £88 from jap parts.

was hoping to get it a little cheaper with some help.

    thanks
