Just had my car serviced, but in addition, had the transmission fluid changed to Amsoil/Honda MTF, which has made it a bit smoother. The mech also inspected the clutch squeak and said it was NOT the release bearing. The whole clutch unit was very dry and it was probably the pressure plate fingers themselves (new). He tried to lube the metal to metal contact points but cannot get to all of it or see if was the DMF or release bearing shaft which is the cause of my woes. Overall, it is now a little lighter and smoother but still has the "ker-chunk" when releasing the clutch every now and then. The rattle is now damped a little.

Glad to hear that yours is getting a little better.

Since the clutch dearing and cover were both replaced in september, I felt the pedal is lighter than it was before.

very interesting to find that the noise is gone since, em, I can not recall when exactly, but I would say since the weather became colder.

The Release Bearing SHAFT! IS uses the Aisin RA60 series transmission and is known for chattering problems amongst others. I'm tired of repeating myself so do your own research folks, you have the info necessary. A TSK may solve it, but the an oversized bearing is necessary.

Well could you be more specify in how to sovle the problem? shall I ask the Lexus dealer to replace the clutch bearing shaft? or what do you mean by a "TSK"

My clutch release bearing as well as the cover were replaced a week ago at lexus manchester, but I dont not think that the noise was sorted.

(but a new set of bearing and cover does sort out the chartering noise when the clutch was in normal posiion)

I then drive to lexus stockport, and technicians there also claimed its normal.

Finally, I poped into my trusted local garage, ask them to drive, guess what, they siad the same thing, nornal!

So im now learning to live with it. I personally found that when in colder weathers, the noise seems to be quiter.

This is the DMF or a scored clutch release bearing shaft. Lexus dealers are morons - they are telling us all that this is normal like we are idiots. Puts me right off and leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. Don't know how they keep winning Customer Satisfaction Awards - must be a lot of gullible pensioners driving them, or the petrol autos must be awesome.

The noise sounds like something is still spinning after the clutch pedal is pressed down.

I have been to both Manchester lexus and stockport lexus, technicians form both dealership claimed the noise is normal.

has anyone ever had this problem sorted and how?

Since my last topic, I have found another noise, please see the video I have uploded, the noise appears at 00:05 in the video.

There is a spinning noise from either the clutch or the transmission, Im not sure where exactly.

It happens when I change from 1st gear to 2nd, right after I step down the clutch.

The noise will also appear when I change from reverse to neutral.

sometimes, I can hear it when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear, but after 3rd gear, its gone.

I have poped into both lexus dealers near my area, one in salford, one in stockport, technicians from both dealerships ran a trip with the car, and they are both claiming that the noise is normal for the IS220 diesel engine. What they said was that the noise is from the transmission and many other customers also found this noise.

Just for my peace of mind, please can anyone had any experiences in dealing with this noise or it is absolutely normal like I have been told?

P.S. I just had the clutch bearing and cover replaced last week.

Thanks for all your help, here is the latest update:

Got my car booked in yesterday at manchester lexus, showed them the noise on arrival, and the problem was confirmed: the noise and the funny sound after switch off the engine are both cased by the "vaccum switch valve", ( thanks to Boris Vassilieff's hint).

They sorted the car out today under warranty and provided me with 2 courtesy cars:(driving both at the sme time? No, no, no).

The first one was their manager's ride,( an IS 200d) and I had it for half a day then was told need to drop the car back because there were some personal belongs left in the boot, I then been given an IS 250 Auto, for the rest of the day and the evening.

P.S, the IS250 drives like a dream, comfortable, quiet, got the power whenever needed. the 200d was just like the green version of the 220d, not much different.

Ok then, in one word, great! Theyve done a nice job, credit to lexus manchester!

P.S again:

After the vaccum switch valve was replaced, the car feels very smooth when accelerating from 1400rpm, and stronger after 1800rpm.

before, it was like hesitating under 1800rpm, then strong pulling power after 2200rpm.

That's the vacuum regulating valve. Yours is going bad.

Just got a used IS 220d from Lexus main dealer.

09 reg, having 16000 miles on the clock.

Just found this interesting noise afer a while of driving, not sure what it is.

It sounds like a pumping motor noise, this noise is not always there, but after a while of driving, when the engine is idle, the sound became very obvious. Please pay attention to the noise after every gas.

but if I turn off the engine and restart it, then the noise is gone.

But again, there is a vry funny noise appears in the end after the ignation was turned off.

Please can anyone help to identify?
