Update: The dealer wanted to have the car back after 500 miles to check oil consumption. I dropped the car round to them and they called me later to tell me that the car had indeed used far more oil than it should have done.
The solution is that Lexus are now paying for a new short block replacement
I just wonder if I should also claim back the cost of the EGR valve.

Thanks mate. I'll look into this once I get the car back.
The dealer wants to check oil consumption after 300 miles. I'm guessing he suspects worn piston rings or worse the head gasket....on a 40,000 mile car???
-
I asked them to clean it out instead and they replied that the valve is completely shot??
sounded like someone couldn't be ar*ed. I wonder what response I'll get if I asked to see the failed valve assembly.

My 220D started kicking out blue smoke last week. This morning I had the multiple warning lights and 'Check VSC'.
Lexus dealer has told me the EGR valve needs to be replaced @£564 !!
Not a happy bunny when I've only had the car 3 months and it's done less than 40K miles.

Car is now with Lexus dealer - As predicted, the dash kept quiet during the test run....aaaaarrrrggg!

Thanks for that mate. I'll talk to the dealer tomorrow and let you know how I get on.
I'm assuming that once they key in the vin number, their system should report what recall work has or hasn't been done on the car.

I bought it from a Renault dealer who has apparently serviced it. But I want it fully checked over by Lexus to make sure everything is it should be....Such as checking if the ECU firmware is up to date.
Is the dashboard crack thing definitely a recall issue?....From what I read on here and elsewhere on the net it's an expensive, time consuming job that involves taking the dashboard out and replacing fixings beneath the windscreen.

I'm taking my 220D in tomorrow for a 40K service (I bought it 2 weeks ago from a renault dealer) I mentioned the loud crack noise to the service manager when I booked the car in. He reckons that he needs to ride in the car to understand what I'm on about??? I'm so tempted to say to him "Let's not waste each others time with that. I know it's a known fault and so do you. How much to fix it?"

Will keep you posted. In the meantime I'm enjoying the IS Advance courtesy car. Very nice and wish I could afford to buy it.
