  1. Over the past couple of weeks I have not been able to connect to the car wi fi and the Multi media system on my NX300 Takumi does not appear to recognise my I phone.

When I leave home I lose the connection to my broadband and go to the WI Fi screen and search "available networks".Previously it would find my I phone which I could select and input the password to activate the Wi Fi.

However the system does not recognise my I phone.!!

    Any ideas anyone.

  2. Yes - Lexus derby have the download on a USB and can now install on your vehicle within an hour or so.

Ashley is the Service Manager and the guy to talk to.

If you visit the website "Lexus-Tech.eu" and log onto the map update section you will find a detailed review of 2020v1 and how it has been updated. In the few days since I got my NX returned i have not noticed any difference but in all honesty have not driven any distance.

  3. Good Morning Phil

many thanks for your reply - the download was not finished yesterday as I had anticipated. The problem appears to be that Lexus share a site with Toyota and during the day so many people are trying to access the internet the system, which is antiquated, cannot cope. The service manager left his laptop at work downloading the update and he has just told me it took 6 hours!!!

A technician did the download at home last night and processed in just over an hour which fully supports your comments. The update is at this moment being downloaded to my vehicle.

I have battered them with the detail you gave me and they realise they have to pressure Toyota into updating a fit for purpose system citing my case as a typical example. He fully accepted the poor customer service to which I have been subject and understands the embarrassment of users at home being able to out perform Lexus.

Expect to get the car back later today and trust when the Autumn update comes around they are better equipped to deal with the request. The performance, or lack of, has resulted in my being offered a free first service by way of a sweetener.

Appreciate the sentiment of your suggestion, under different circumstances, of driving up to J31 for your assistance.

Again many thanks - helped me and Lexus enormously

  4. Phil

My NX is at Lexus Derby for the 2020v1 update.Took it in yesterday and as of 2-00pm to day they have still not downloaded to the USB stick. at close of play yesterday they had 60% download, left it on overnight but the computer switched off. Thus today they have started over again and I believe now they are at 40% download. therefore I can see not being done by close of play.

Bear in mind I booked the vehicle in a week ago. They had not done any preparatory work so only started the download when they got my vehicle. What a shambles.I intend to speak with the manager.

Anyhow Phil after all that can you tell how long it took you to do the download and then how long to upload to your vehicle

    Thanks

    Tony

  5. Hi Phil

Hope all is well with you during this difficult time. First occasion I have been on the site for months.I had just picked up the map update 2020 Spring was released May 20th( 2019v3) and then saw you had already downloaded

I am not as adventurous as you so I will wait until I can get Lexus onto installing this free map update.

Take care and good to catch up with you again

  6. I bought a NX300h Takumi a few months ago and am really happy with the vehicle.

Just one point niggles me and this ia associated with the ROUTE SAVE system. I previously had an NX300h Luxury 2017model and this had a ROUTE SAVE facility that was good to use. The car also had the rotary dial system and when the route trace was no longer required you were able to delete same using the Rotary Dial selector.

Not so simple with the MM17 Multi media on the Takumi model. I use the Route trace or Route save frequently and the trace leaves a purple dotted line on the screen. However when you have finished with the route there is no way of deleting the trace.

Despite nearly 3 months of back and forth between the Lexus dealership in Derby and exchanging messages withe the Lexus Technical people I have no answer. They have finally grasped the problem and keep asking irrelevant questions which I answer and send back to them. It is so frustrating - I am dealing with the After Sales Manager at Derby who is has told me the query is being up graded to Lexus Belgium.

Has anyone else used the Route save? - If you have without my problems I would be interested in hearing from you

Not tearing my hair out - just confused as mine connects without any issues.

does your phone display the blue banner across the top at any point when the car is trying to connect?

have you put your Lexus portal username/password into the settings in the car (no idea if these are even needed for street view to work but I know mine are entered).

does your phone contract support personal hotspot (also known as tethering)? (majority of contracts do so unlikely to be an issue).

    Hi Phil

Back from Holiday last week and determined to crack the Internet connection issue. To cut a long story short the problem was with my I Phone 6plus not being compatible with the system. We tried with different and later version phones at Lexus and at O2 and both worked using personal hotspot.

Had to purchase new phone and all set up and working now. Have to thank the Matt at O2 in Burton on Trent taking the time to sort it out for me.A tip he gave me was to keep the Hotspot page on the phone open which would prevent dropping out.

This was last Friday and fingers crossed still good to go.

The phone does not at any time display a blue banner

The Lexus portal username/password are installed./ In fact the system has worked at times but only around the house

Will have to check the phone contract

    Thanks for sticking with me

The personal hotspot password is only applicable to WiFi connections. Not used for Bluetooth connections as you will have already ‘paired’ the phone (and therefore already authorised the connection).
Based on what you’ve said it sounds like it is still trying to connect via WiFi?  Did you turn WiFi power off on the car settings?

I will go out now and try again

Tony - try the following steps.

    Start the car

On the car switch WiFi Power OFF. This is to stop the car trying to connect to your home WiFi.

Check you iPhone to ensure it is connected to the car via Bluetooth (for hands free calls etc)

Switch ON personal hotspot. (If already on, switch is off then on again to wake it up).

On the car try accessing something on-line like street view. When the car makes an internet connection to the phone, the phone will show a blue banner across the top - the two interlocking rings is the symbol for personal hotspot.  (On my iPhone XS I just get a blue clock in the top left but on an iPhone 6 you will probably get a banner across the top).

    see attached pictures.

Hi Phil - followed the steps you identified but reached an impasse when trying to connect because all I get is a ping ping sound and thus I cannot get into Street View.

Wonder if the problem lies with Personal Hotspot.I have set a password which I use when prompted and get the following screen - however after waiting for several minutes I have no connection. Message " connection unsuccessful.

    I'm finding this hellishly frustrating.

Written confirmation of updates from Lexus ?

Which Lexus Customer Service sanctioned as Inchcape told me they did not offer the service !

    Tel

My Lexus dealer denied all knowledge of free map updates for 3 years so I copied the page from the website and took it in to the dealership - it is irrefutable. They did refer to Lexus for confirmation which was duly received.

You want Lexus-tech.eu website which will direct you to the page for your Sat nav system.

Guys, have just found that you don't need to enable a WiFi hotspot on your phone if you have a Bluetooth connection that you can also setup tethering on. On my Samsung Galaxy S8, there is a setting called Bluetooth Tethering, which has to be set ON to allow Bluetooth connected devices to use the Bluetooth connection for internet access. When I switch this on and disable my phone's WiFi hotspot, the Lexus uses the Bluetooth to fetch Streetview, fuel prices, traffic info, etc....

I've been vocally complaining that the car has to have two connections Bluetooth and WiFi, and it doesn't. I just needed to enable Bluetooth Tethering on my phone. I imagine most other high end phones will have this setting too, not sure what iPhones do...

Hope this helps and that I'm not teaching you to suck eggs!

It's a big problem for me too Steve - need to check out my I Phone 6Plus to see if it is available. I can't get Wi Fi once I am off  my drive.

WiFi icon will only light up when it is actually connected to a WiFi network. This could be your home WiFi whilst parked outside your house or if your phone has WiFi Hotspot mode switched on.  Each individual network will need to be registered / programmed into the car (just like connecting your phone to a friends WiFi)
Miracast is some old proprietary system that allows phone screens to show - only worked with a limited number of devices. I’ve never used it.

For Bluetooth connections I sometimes find I need to cycle off/on the personal hotspot mode on my iPhone.

Glad you’ve got confirmation on the updates - not something I’ve looked at getting. I’ve just been taking the wording of the update website as true.

    Hi Phil

Sat on the driveway yesterday afternoon with connection to my home Wi Fi and not a glimmer of light on the icon.So bearing in mind your comments I tried to connect to Street View via Bluetooth but all I got was a message"on line connection to the server could not be established"Also tried using BT Wi Fi Hotspots.

Think I'll have to get into Lexus although they don't fill me with hope.

    Tony

  14. HI Phil. Good Afternoon.

I only have A to D on my system probably because I have not activated Miracast ( what is this?)

What was confusing me is that D( the Wi Fi icon) is hardly registering at all and as you have noticed I thought this was the Internet connection. Appreciate your explanation and will try it shortly to see if i can get Street View without a display on D.

Finally got agreement in writing from Lexus for 3 year free map updates for 17CY MM system. Apparently, as you know Phil they update twice yearly in the Spring and Autumn. When I first approached Lexus they claimed not to know of the facility to update FOC.

    Thanks again

Hi Tony, I don't think you're doing anything wrong by the sound of it. My connection to my phone's hotspot drops out occasionally but then reconnects almost straightaway. It's irritating (as I've said before) that the car can't use the Bluetooth connection for everything-internet instead of needing 2 connections active simultaneously.

Hi Steve - It's basically all the time. In fact I hardly experience a signal at all!!

  16. Anyone else having trouble making the connection for Street View etc. I have had my Takumi model for 5 weeks now and in that time the Internet icon in the top right hand corner of the screen  has hardly shown. I am connected to the Lexus portal and the phone signal is strong - mainly 4G. I must be going wrong somewhere along the way. Any ideas.

    Hi everyone.

This is my first time posting on the site and i am hoping you might be able to help us with a issue.

We have a 19 plate NX 300h takumi and everything has been great until recently. Under breaking at low speeds we are finding the abs is kicking in without heavy application of the break pedal.

The abs seems to kick in at low speeds and also a locking up of one or more of the wheels at low speed. This was happening in the wet but has now progressed to happening in the dry.

The car is currently at Lexus (as it is only 3 months old) and they have found that the computer has stored abs activations at 14mph. This has the technician stumped and also he has been unable to replicate the fault.

Apologies for the long winded explanation but i am hoping that you might be able to help or if anyone has had any similar problems

My Takumi is only 5 weeks old but no such problems - be interested how long it takes to fix.

Tony - the auto zoom changes the zoom level as you approach a junction.  Although not labelled as such I think that 'near' sets the zoom to 50m, 'normal' is 100m. Can't remember what far.  I find the feature useless as I generally have my zoom set to 20m anyway so even the 'near' setting would actually zoom out at junctions!

I only see 3D landmarks in big cities and at high zoom levels (10m, 20m or 50m).  I've never used the route trace or save feature so I can't comment on it.

One thing I have noticed since updating both the maps (2019 v2) and software (1530) - I no longer get the split-screen junction view at junctions/turns (I still get slip roads on motorways though).  Really annoying - another bug to write on the list 😞 - I believe this only ever worked when auto zoom was switched off, but now it doesn't matter what setting I have.

Phil- thanks very much for your message. The information regarding the Auto Zoom and 3D landmarks has been most helpful.

My car should have had the map update installed on Wednesday last week but Lexus have delayed until November 18th.

As far as the route trace is concerned I have put the matter to the Lexus geeks.I use the system quite frequently. You are able to switch it On and Off. The problem lies in the fact you cannot delete the route once it is on the map!!. My previous NX300h had a " Delete Route Trace" option which appears to be missing on the current system. Lets see what they come up with.

My only other problem is with the Street View and Internet connection.I went into Nottingham and back twice yesterday and did not get a flicker of a signal from the icon in the top right hand corner of the screen. I may not use it a great deal but if it is there I have to have it working!

I took delivery of a new 300h Takumi three weeks ago. Unlike my previous 300h Premier, it makes this awful noise on startup and shutdown. I presume the car now thinks it's a computer and therefore has to make bongs and bings to tell us it's alive. However both my wife and I find it very irritating as it happens every time the car is started or turned off. I've searched the manual but can't find anything about silencing this noise. Can anyone out there help?

Hi Nigel - I took delivery of a Takumi just over a month ago and do not experience such noises - ask Lexus if you have not done so already

The updates are easy - just time consuming.
Not noticed any changes as I wasn’t really having issues.  They still haven’t fixed the bugs that annoy me (eg music files don’t play in the correct [track number] order).

I occasionally use Lexus On Line (personal hotspot to an iPhone over Bluetooth).  Only really used when I’m setting a navigation destination which doesn’t appear on the POI database - I use the google search instead.  Works okay but I’m always surprised how slow it is.

Where in Derbyshire are you Tony?  I’m south Sheffield so help may not be too far away if you need it.

Thanks Phil- I am obviously finding my was around the Multi Media system and my sat nav is having the map updated next week. I intend also to point out to Lexus the commitment to free map updates for 3 years which is quite clearly stated.

I used the Route Trace on my NX300h luxury which didn't have the Premium navigation - on this 17CY edition it is called Route save but the problem is that there doesn't seemed to be anyway to delete the trace( as there was on the previous model). I have raised a complaint with Lexus after sales manager at Derby and await a response.Have you come across this at all?

Regarding the Lexus internet I am not au fait with the system, which is set up and has been working but I think the portal might have been down for a couple of days - your comments re the Google search are beyond me at the moment.

I am also struggling withe the Automatic zoom - don't know what i am doing wrong at the moment. Is it correct that the 3D landmarks and buildings only comes into play in Big cities?

Bet you wished you'd never asked but appreciate the offer of help - you never know. I live in a small village called HATTON which is 10 miles west of Derby just off the A50 between Derby and Stoke. Only an hour away.
