  1. Hi all, need to replace the rear shocks on my gs450h 2006. I can't afford the adjustable ones, can anyone tell me the part numbers for the GS300 shocks. I'm not sure which year of gs300 shocks would fit, or kyb shocks. I have asked Lexus parts direct but they can't advise, starting to get a bit desperate as mot is looming. Would be very grateful for any help.

    Hi

I was on my way to the in-laws the other day & started to hear a knocking coming from under the car.Had a quick look & there was a sensor had come loose from the exhaust .There were no warning lights on the dash and the car was going fine , so when I got to the inlaws I took it to a local exhaust place for a quik look. They pushed it back in & the cars still going fine.

I have a picture of where the sensors come from & wondered if some one could tell me what it is & the likely cost of having it replaced. hope I have done this right

    Thanks Steve

  3. just to update you on my search for a radio.Tried 24/7 spares cheapest qoute was £40 with postage but the radio had a cassette stuck in it ,decided to give that one a miss. The most expensive , luckily I was sat down when they told me the price , £190 with postage & vat.Needless to say I didn't buy it.

I think I will look for someone breaking a car& see what sort of prices they want?

  4. A few weeks ago came back from 2 week family hol in Cyprus. The lexus had been parked at my sisters for 2 weeks, got in to start it the next morning ( see where this is going) nothing, battery was flat.Luckily my brother in law had a set of jump leads, she started with no problems. After a 200 mile drive home my first job should have been to either charge the Battery or buy a new one.Guess which one I choose?Thats right, neither!!

Last weekend we planned to stay with the inlaws for a couple of days,so late friday morning I thought I had better fill her up,turn the key and bugger all,not a sound.I dont have jump leads,my bro in law is 200 miles away,I'm not a member of any breakdown org. These things always happen on a friday, when you don't have the luxury of all week to sort it out.oh,& the misssus car was in work with her.

Luckily for me a hundred yards down the road from me are Tayna batterys, they couldnt have been more helpful, tried to charge my old Battery, but after charging & testing it,it was looking decidely iffy,so bought a brand new varta Battery for £58.

so the moral of the story is dont put it off.

  5. Thanks for the info. While we are on the subject of radios is there an easy way of finding out if the code has been set on my radio, without unplugging it?

If I do unplug the radio and it stops working is there a way of resetting the code, cos I dont have the code.I want to replace the bulbs in it,anyone know what bulbs I would need?

I got as far as removing the trim around the gear selector & then lost my nerve. But I did mange it without breaking anything,or having bits leftover and it all fitted back together perfectly. This is a first for me,so I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself.

    thanks Steve

  6. Tuesday morning,6 am get in the Lexus to go to work, flat tyre,no breakdown cover & need to be there before 6.30.No other option go & get my partner up,to drive me to work.Thankfully she is an absolute gem,no word of complaint even though she hasn't had a lie in past 6 am for the past week. Couldn't borrow her car cos that was booked into the garage, couldn't get out of work to sort the tyre, obviously no spare. As I work long shifts 6 till 6,& I was working tues & weds couldn't get to a tyre place.

After a bit of research on internet came across Tyres on the drive, ordered the tyre they came to fit it today(thurs) Didn't have to leave the house.I dont know if it was the best price for this tyre £70 for a Landsail 225 60 16,but certainly the most convenient.

    Happy motoring again.

One thing they did mention was the rear discs are corroded. What are the best brand, cost effective ones & about what sort of cost to fit them.Am I better off going to one of these quick fit places,or local mechanic the one I use charges about £30 per hour.

    Thanks Steve

  7. Hi guys, thanks for all the info.sorry I havent replied earlier, but with old age (mine not the car)comes health probs, nothing serious just time consuming.I have managed to find a company in Mochdre who will paint them for £50 a wheel so when I can I will have them done.Hopefully I will work out how to post before & after photos on here.

I am also looking to have an aux in,put in the radio ,been qouted about £120 for this.Seems to be the simplest solution to connecting other devices to it.

I dont have the code for the radio,is it the same method for resetting the code for 1996 Ls400 ,that just has the radio & climate control as the one mentioned in an earlier post?

    Thanks again Steve

  8. It was mot time again last tuesday.Passed again with no advisories!! And my car is 18 years old,I have never owned a car that has passed its mot without needing work done on it.shows what fantastic qaulity these cars are. This year I am going to treat it to refurbed alloys.Anybody know of a company that could refurb them local to Conwy / Denbighshire?

There's a thread on here somewhere that Lexus offer refurb for £350 anybody tried this lately?

I love my Lexus,I will be in tears if I ever have to get rid. :flowers: :flowers:

  9. Ive only just spotted this post,I have the exact same problem with my car.Is it easy to clean the throttle body, for a complete novice diyer?

Or alternatively how much labour are we talking about at a garage? Moneys a bit tight after xmas.

I love this sight,it is always helpful & the members are never condescending even to people like me who are more than a bit clueless on these matters.

    cheers

  10. Hi,wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this, I thought it was recomended that the pas fluid is changed every 2 years? But the mechanic at my local garage checked the Lexus service schedule & there is no mention of replacing it,just check & top up.It's a Ls400 1996,the mechanic says he's never changed it on any cars & doesn't see the need.I see no reason to doubt him as he's always done good work in the past.

I'd be interested in peoples views on this?

    Thanks Steve
