  1. well ive got a whistle and im fooked right off with it blowing. i had a clunk at low speed turning into parking etc etc, along with the whistle any faster the 20mph. had it in thick****s....twice as i dont get much free time and they could find no fault. then the balljoint popped and left me mrs n baby in the middle of road with a wheel off,out and only standing because my now warped wing caught it. changed the broken balljoint with a mate and soon after replaced the other. excellent walkthrough tutorials available for the is200 save some labour costs wherever you can! the clunk was still there and the whistle goes away until youve used the brakes a bit.

Anti-roll bar suspension droplinks cured the clunk. These were somewhat harder to remove on my 2000 IS but me and lewe-d got there with a hacksaw and an angle grinder so you may want to pay labour on that one just to avoid stress.

The whistle is still there. Shim kit from lexus helped but it returned soon after testrun. I believe the whistle is the brakes(cheap pads and lippy discs are screamin at me im hoping as the bearings are fine apparantly.

Drilled and grooved front discs and some heavy duty ebc pads are sitting in the hallway, hopefully this will sort the problem.

I have noticed when i take the brakes apart, once reassembled the whistle has gone. either as they warm up or bed in the whisle returns.

On one recent sunny day the whistle must have pestered someone else because for the whole day it was gone! next day....not you again.

i love my car! il love it even more once ive finished picking up the pieces from the last owner who clearly gave up on her . i nearly lost faith but my socks are still holy!

  2. Id keep me eyes peeled for an IS the same colour near you, scope out the owner and decifer whether it was them who could have pinched it! Then live a little and one time embark on a mission to fetch it back! then once refitted give it a few days. If it was them then they will more then likely return for it. just a thought but if its cleanly removed it must be planned. unless it came off whilst driving, but a swerving follower trying to dodge a ufo in the sight of your rear view mirror woulr have been a giveaway :arrrggg-matey:

  3. possibly so. not had this problem yet! could be ya windscreen if its been replaced at some point as ive heard they sometimes dont seal properly. Il be sorting the man a drink for extra glue if i ever need replacement! im not sure if theres any drain holes in the doors that could be blocked and letting water in. Hopefully someone will advise you better mate. not sure where the sunroof drain leaves the car.

May just be that at some point someone gave it a good pressure wash or steam clean in the engine bay, which in another motor i had that issue. water came through the aircon vents. you had the car long? I dont even dare feel mine! But im gonna have to now!

  4. i had this. rust still there to prove it! i ripped the lining out of the boot and there were the flaps. surface rust forming around the vent. dried it out nice with the heat gun. and sealed up around the outside of the vent.

after a few days i checked. there was some water in the arch which i dried right out again.

been a good month now. loads of rainfall and im still dry. will have a good look behind the bumper one day.

holding out for the summer for a good clean up and direct to rust paint

its all about the vents in my case

    enjoy!

  5. I replaced them on my old mk1 GS300 without a full dismantle, although you will need to remove the disc. The main problem is if the little bolts that hold the shield to the hub ALL shear off. If only one or two do, you can sort it out as there are still enough left to hold the replacement shield in place. Take it real slow and careful getting them off - pre soak with penetrating oil etc and obviously keep oil and stuff well clear of the discs and pads.

Basically, get the little retaining bolts out. Use some tin snips to cut through the old shield, with one cut on either side, you can then easily get the two halves out. In worst case scenario, you can get away without it, but it is better to have them. For the replacement, cut just one slot. You can then bend the shield open, i.e. bend each side of the cut in the opposite direction to each other, you can then wangle it around and get it in place over the hub. Bend it straight again and fit the retaining bolts. Once it is all done up, do any final bending to get the shield straight again. You do end up with a cut in the shield, but a whole lot less work than a full dismantle.

great idea tigerfish. sounds like a plan. thanks
  6. so my o/s/f brake dust guard is about to fall off and im in way deeper then i thought with this worn old beast. il get there! looks like the guard goes on before the bearing assembly. And as for the rusty state id be surprised if i got the old one off anyway.

i know i probably shouldnt but could i live without it? obviously id have to clean down there a bit more.

    any comments?

    thanks.

p.s when i get this car up to scratch im deleting my silly problem posts and pretending they never existed!

  7. hello owners in the club.

i am looking for a backbox for my is200. dont want the hassle of welding and adding pipes to fit a new one. thought i may be able to grab a bargain somewhere and save me some hassle in fitting as it should just bolt straight on. not always that simple though

    many thanks

    bingo

  8. the clonk noise i had on my IS was down to the anti roll bar, the mounts for it the rubber/plastic bits had some play in them.

and it was the bar moving that made the sound.

I have the odd clonk! Us lexus owners have lots in common. was it just a case of adjustment? that would be an issue off the list if so!

    many thanks

  9. morning all!

I want to try get hold of a wheel bearing hub assembly to rule out where this noise is coming from, There was a comment to a post which i now cant locate, saying that someone did the same thing to solve a similar sound which worked also reducing the sound from his wife. im going to locate a used part to try and swap them over. Even if it works and starts up again six months down the line..at least id know the cause and action required. im not up for ringing lexus as the banks not permitting a great deal so i am saving any embarrassment for now lol

i have seen used parts between 40 and 70 notes, which is a loss i can handle if it does not silence the mrs...i mean.....the car

Anyone ever bought a complete hub assembly for the front of there IS200? if so do you mind sharing how much for?

  10. Hi Bingo

I bought a boot lid in the summer to take the spoiler from it to put on my own car (needed a re-spray but the paintshop done a brilliant job in matching the colors).

The lid itself is the rusty red colour, dont know what color code, It came with all of the ligths / locks and trim etc - i took all of this off and it came off really easy.

I cant see any issues in putting it back on the boot. I still have the lid and if you want it then you can have it. Just arrange for it to be collected, doing me a favour as it gets it out of my way. If you want some pictures then let me know.

Only thing is that it has 3 small screw holes in it from where the spoiler was attached but if you are painting it or wrapping it then that wont matter if you fill them. All you need to do with your locks is attach them to the lid with a few bolts. Take a picture of how they are fitted to your lid now for when you need to re-attach.

Let me know if any good for you.

hello mate. where abouts are you located? could be perfect. planning to get it carbon wrapped eventually. As long as it does not have a rechid dent in it im a happy man. dam this car needs my love! if i can arrange someone to collect it and deliver or your not to far il come fetch it. a pic should not be necessary bud. nice one.
  11. It depends on several factors, if the replacement is the exact colour and is complete with all the locks and latch it should be a "plug and play"job.

The biggest job will be realigning the new one on the original hinges.

If you are buying a basic shell of the bootlid just remove one thing at a time and transfer the part over to the new one, a digital camera is useful to record the process so you can always look back at what you have done to make sure it is correct.

Make sure you put some old carpet or other protective material around the opening to prevent any damage if the boot lid slips when you are taking it off the hinges.

i was going to get a used one online. colour i thought was not an issue as intended to wrap it with vinyl. i have seen one the same colour. what issues will i get from a different coloured one all the same fittings i presumed. Also i thought i may have problems electronically from disconnecting things. dont want to mess up me electric boot opener.

    really appreciate you help here!

    thankyou very much

  12. hi all. having recently purchased my lexus is 200. i have recently discovered some nasty noises that i can easily do without. i removed the back wheels to check the brake calipers. whilst refitting the wheels ive noticed approximately 2-3mm play on one of the wheels. could this be the bearings? im also gettin a slight whistling sound coming from the drivers side whilst the window is open. Although i cant here it with the windows shut i fear im getting the wrong attention to my ride. Also the front brakes make a scraping sound. pads are fairly new but the discs have lips on the outer edge.if i replace discs will that stop?

sorry to ask so much of you all but any help guys?

  13. so ive got the car! just found a pool in each side of the boot now ive had chance to dig deeper. just red a post about leaky boot so thou shalt not panic. just somethin to look into and keep an eye on. check ya boots guys!!. im coming but she is in poorly mode cosmetically!!! so then next quote must be....thou shalt not judge....dont worry im not religious.
