Hi Folks,

Both of my wing mirror motors finally gave up recently - They stopped auto-dipping in reverse (with the switch in the correct position) and finally stopped adjusting altogether.

When I spoke with Lexus, I was advised that I had to purchase a whole wing mirror assembly (complete with glass) for c. £600.

I subsequently found out that you can purchase the Wing Mirror Actuator assembly separately. For those that are interested, the part numbers are 87908-48260 (LHS) and 87909-48260 (RHS). I paid £132 for each actuator (total price £264).

Took me around half an hour to swap both actuator motors and wing mirrors now adjust and auto-dip as they should do.

I hope this helps others out there.

This happens to me from time to time - usually in the winter. I think it's to do with condensation forming on the DVD in the boot. I find pressing the "Map" button normally sorts things out. Hope this helps.

Should also have mentioned that the satnav dvd reader is in the boot. Under the false floor on the right hand side.

I think the DVD player under the drivers seat controls the screens in the headrests - though I could be wrong.

Just a quick update - If needed, you can buy replacement tail light gaskets from Lexus. The part number is L81554-48061

It looks like the gaskets have been 'uprated' - they are slightly different being more enclosed.

I left a dehumidifier in the car to dry it out, and whilst it's working, its taking quite some time, so I've decided to take out the front seats, and centre console and remove the carpet completely so that it can dry out indoors.

Simon/Spurty - do you have any tips that you can share when taking out the front seats and the centre console please (and thank you)?

Thanks for this. Had a look at mine this afternoon and rear carpets were soaked. Luckily it didn't make it to the front. I'm going to try and get replacement foam gaskets just behind the tail lights.

I would check the sunroof drainage holes first as these can get clogged. There are two of them - try compressed air or give it a prod with strimmer wire. Worst case you may have to pull some interior panels loose and check that the drainage tubes haven't come loose.

I think I read somewhere that someone else diagnosed water leaking in from the windscreen - it was replaced and not bonded in properly.

Ok - just got my motor back and as with you Neil, mine wasn't affected. Evidently there are a batch of rogue tensioners out there and I suspect toyota are doing a discreet recall.

Whilst I was there, I got them to change the front and rear diff oils and spark plugs - wanted to try the plugs myself but thought I'd save myself the hassle instead.

Responding to Duncan and Jason - I'd ordinarily agree with you. But you've obviously not experienced the numpties they employ at Lexus Sidcup (part of Jemca). I'd go back to Tech One without hesitation.

Hi Nelmo - funnily enough I've had a call today and from the same garage. Dropping my motor off on Thursday.

The guy there Derek, is pretty stand up and the techies at Toyota Sidcup actually recommend him. I'll see what happens next week....

Following a bust up with Jemca Lexus in Sidcup (I won't go into details here as unfair to them) I took my RX300 to Tech One to get the cambelt and water pump changed.

Highly recommended and I'm now getting everything done there - I'm planning on getting them to do the spark plugs, transfer oil and differential oil.

If you're in the South East London area you should try these guy's out.

Only downside is that they don't open on a Saturday.

What you say is true and yes you have to be very careful re barriers! My personal thoughts are that roof racks are easier to set up and use. Getting bikes On the roof is quite easy. I'm only 5'8". Each to their own.

My preference is a roof rack. This way you don't have the bike carrier putting pressure on the body of the car. I swear by thule...

Hi Paullord. Per luckyduck the best option is a full refurb. Not heard of shotblasting but had mine acid dipped, refurbed and then power coated. I kept the colour standard and i'm really happy with the finish - no blistering, lifting of paint or change in colour. I paid £65 per wheel. Took about a week and well worth it. I used a local firm to me (Kent).

I don't think it's worth getting a refurb done with the tyres still attached (where they just break the bead). Not having use if the car for a week is a bit of pain but small price to pay for a decent job.

Sounds weird but yes. It puts tension on the alternator mount. I had this on one of my old cars albeit I only got it on full lock. The techies simply slackened the alternator and no problems. I could be wrong. See what other members say, but the only way to find out for sure is to take it to a garage. From what I can tell though you shouldn't need to worry too much.

Hi there. This is correct in that the dash has to come out (assuming you have a mark II RX). Unable to recommend any garages but if it were me I'd go to lexus as they should be familiar with taking the dash out, but more importantly, at putting it back in properly so that it doesn't rattle. That said you could get a complete numpty working on your car even at lexus...... Good luck.

Is the sound a high pitched whine/squeal? If so it could be the tension on the alternator belt - easy enough job for any mechanic to do. Good luck.

Hi there. I would say it depends on what oil was used at your last service. I would always ensure the same grade of oil is used. Not neccesarily the brand. Take a look at the service record and any receipts. Failing that speak to the garage that did the last service and see what grade oil they use. Hope this helps.
