The engine ware due to stop start is minimal due to the facts that, the engine is still hot, the oil does not have chance to drain down in a short period, and the engine does not start at low revs with little oil on the bearings.

I agree that it won't be a "cold" engine start, which will help matters. However, its the oil pressure which keeps the various components from rubbing against each other. Just having oil on the parts, without the oil pressure is will be fatal.

  2. Hello

Engine life longevity with a hybrid car.

So a hybrid car will switch off the petrol engine and start running on Battery when ever it can.

So all this constant turning-off and restarting the petrol engine, many, many times even on a short trip.

What effect does this have on engine life. As you know most of the engine wear and tear occurs when it starts up and the oil pressure builds up.

    Thanks

  3. The LS460 is the first LS with lane-assist.

(quote from Wikipedia ["Lane departure warning system"]:"In 2006, Lexus introduced a multi-mode Lane Keeping Assist system on the LS 460, which utilizes stereo cameras and more sophisticated object- and pattern-recognition processors. This system can issue an audiovisual warning and also (using the Electric Power Steering or EPS) steer the vehicle to hold its lane. It also applies counter-steering torque to help ensure the driver does not over-correct or "saw" the steering wheel while attempting to return the vehicle to its proper lane.[8] If the radar cruise control system is engaged, the Lane Keep function works to help reduce the driver's steering-input burden by providing steering torque; however, the driver must remain active or the system will deactivate.")

    Hi, Thanks for the reply.

I must confess, I did read Wikipedia before posting. I think Nissan was the first car maker to introduce KLA in 2000, and I think it has been available in Japan since about 2001 on some of the Lexus' (if my memory is correct).

So i take it that in the UK, only cars after 2006 have a chance of having the KLA feature?

I assume it's not available on the GS models?

    Thanks

  4. Clarkson is a complete bellend , I know someone who went to a TG programme and what you see on the camera is not what you get in the flesh he told me that during a break between filming he seemingly turned from being the "likeable" bafoon that we all see on the telly to one of the rudist person he has ever met and treated people (audience) with very little respect. Have always found his test drives boring and slightly inane particularly where he feels the need to smoke them doing doughnuts ....what is the point of all that??? :megaangry:

    I completely agree with this.

    He turns me off completely.

I just switch off any of his programmes, and I refuse to buy any of his merchandise, and won't accept any of his merchandise as gifts either (and i always ask for the receipt so I can get a refund of the money).

A lot of these TV people are now being charged with sexual offences. With any luck it will be JC next.......LOL
