  1. 10K report.

Not much to add from the 5000 mile report posted in November and on the next page of topics. Very happy with the car approaching 12K. First service well past and oil maintenance message came up at 9800 miles. Car doing 42 mpg in December and early Jan. I put this down to lights, heater, windscreen heater etc now back up to 46 back to 48 50 soon as light and weather gets better. I tend not to reset the mpg trip often. I have a niggle on the phone with favourites still not holding in. I have had to push to get this taken as a problem but now it is being taken seriously.

Tyres all worn evenly and 1mm more tread on front tyres than on the back.

Indicators, 3 flash is an issue for me on motorways and duals, it gets messy right left right. This is being re programmed by Lexus and there appear to be some choices.

    Overall really like this car.

  2. Hi Wicksy,

You may recall that I held off on winter tyres, we have not had much cold weather so maybe not an accurate picture but at this stage they would have been an extravagance. A few days ago the roads were icy after rain then freeze, the traction control light flashed several times but no loss of traction. My dealer will not hold the spares when not in use and the tax man also wants to do me for having another set, even though only one set can be used at a time.

    Hoping for mild winters!

  3. Hi

I am now well over 10K and have not yet had time to update the 5000 mile report I wrote a few months ago. I do have very similar thought process on the company car options. You are about right with 46 mpg however in the autumn I had around 48 and in freezing cold short days it dropped down too 42. However careful driving today gave 50.

My lux is very comfortable and eats up the miles easily. A 2.5 litre auto with bags of pace at a low tax threshold, it is a company drivers dream! You will not regret it if you go for it.

  4. Hi Charles, Many thanks for the detailed feedback. Based on your comments and from what I've read elsewhere all looks OK for me to place an order in a couple of months, subject to another test drive.

One question: do the basic hands free phone functions work reliably, i.e. do problems only arise when you try to play music from the phone via Bluetooth or USB cable, etc? A reliable hands free phone is an essential for me. The only other function I'd use is the Inrix traffic system which I understand relies on data from the phone via Bluetooth unless you have the £320 Hotspot accessory and a SIM card.

Roger - No problem my pleasure.

Yes phone is OK as a general rule. Favourites disappear from time to time. I use an I pod via USB and Bluetooth so as I think I mentioned in the earlier posts - the usb route works for me.

I also have had i tunes on my mobile and used that as well.

Pressing the mouse to click and issuing to many requests can cause freezes etc so I take it slow.

Voice commands are OK but it has to go through around three questions to make the call.

I will be really happy when the favourites menu holds memory and not drop out.

I have not set up infix or hotspot so can't say will try it out some time.

Looks like we need a firmware upgrade, but who would think 10 years ago a picture of the person you phone would come up on the screen or for that matter what screen.

I like the grace note feature that picks a picture for the type of music or you can have the album art work on the display.

The sat nav is competent and the full post code is much much better that the old 4 digit I had before, used a tom tom at times. The satty is very accurate and taken me to the correct destination every time so far.

I like the photo id feature when calling and I have used the text\e mail auto read out which is novel. Not many phones can operate all the functions though.

At the end of the day it is your call and you need to be happy, so tryout as much as you can.

I have no regrets and have yet to ask Lexus to look into the firmware bugs but that is all they are I think.

  5. holy hell, dont use t cut! its like the most abrasive thing ever! tar spots need to be taken off with a tar remover. Youll be going through the paint with t cut in 2-3 applications

Thanks for the concern - Locally our roads are often sprayed tar and granite chipped over time as the will to wash and polish declines a significant build up can arise particularly on the near side wing behind the wheel and along the sill. Also stone chips as well, Tar remover just doesn't work some times.

Spray tar and chip is a blight.

I only T cut or T cut wax on stubborn tar spots, scratches and any bloom, I did say "T cut for stubborn tar spots later as car gets older." Accent on the older.

I have no association with it but there are some modern style products about, also you can use the original cut with 3 part polish it is mild, in both cases it is an infrequent use product.

I have yet to go through the lacquer or the paint.

  6. Hi All,

    Updated 5.2.2014

5 months in and a late 10K report.

Not much to add from the 5000 report still v happy with the car approaching 12K. First service well past and oil maintenance message came up at 9800 miles. Car doing 42 mpg in December and early Jan. I put this down to lights, heater, windscreen heater etc now back up to 46. I tend not to reset the mpg trip often as it seems to be more consistent over time. I have had nightly issues on the phone with favourites still not holding in. I have had to push to get this taken as a problem but it is being dealt with.

Indicators 3 flash is an issue for me on motorways and duals gets messy right left right, this is being re programmed by Lexus and hopefully the favorites will be sorted. Really like this car.

    Previously.

2 months in and 5000 mile report.

MPG = 46.7 at the moment, has been up to 48 - using mixed road primarily A -B roads with 1/3rd motorway, car is at home on both. Acceleration on motorway is excellent, no lag etc.

Oil use - none, discolouration none.

    Transmission - great.

    Tyres no sign of wear.

    Handling A+

    Steering A +

Need to be taught more how to use the car to enhance fuel saving, Lexus get on this it is not really explained.

Comfortable - Faux leather seats - everyone complements my leather seats, unless you like the tech and colour options not necessary.

Rear camera - good but now fogging in colder wetter weather so glad I have the parking sensors - a must on this car

I have the expensive Sat nav option.

Phone - Audio buggy and crashes, I can live with that at the moment, as an early adoptor this is expected, it need sorting. But considering the apple OS update that appears to have trashed my mac recently :megaangry:this is not that bad. Particularly if you do not make to many demands on it by not over pressing the mouse click to often.

    Like the mouse.

    Like the DvD player

Sat Nav - post code option must be on first page not second. :megaangry:

Phone tried 4 is buggy but working. :eerrrmm:

Driving - really good and no complaints at all on this aspect, in fact I look forward to driving it every day, our sports car has been neglected since the IS300h arrived! Tax saving is through PAYE bliss.

Looking forward to the next 5000! :shifty:

  7. I am a high (ish) miler, so bound to get chips, no amount of protection stops a stone hurtling at 70 MPH, compounded if coming head on.

Just wash and a reasonable quality polish for me. If the rain water collects in large bubble wrap type bubbles that indicates good protection from UV and road grime etc. If they do not form, time to re polish.

T cut for stubborn tar spots later as car gets older.

    Always touch up chips regularly.

Oh and I always polish the alloys as this helps to prevent brake dust and corrosion onset.

  8. Charles,

Sounds like you have it on correctly. Sometimes it isn't perfect, I've found!

As with others, I rarely use it at all.

There is definitely a different between using the paddles in sport mode with gear selector in D, and using it with paddles in sport mode and gear selector in S. The latter is much preferable if you really want some power.

Again, as with others, I rarely use sport mode, although I admit I was in a hurry this morning and put it on to pull out faster...

    Ian P.

    Hi Ian,

There is no audible difference with it on or off so one for the technician.

Really like Sport mode on the selector and gear box when a turn of speed is needed, but only for short sprints.

  9. I collected my IS300h from the dealer yesterday, and now I am ploughing through the manual. In the wallet with mine was a CD, with no title. I popped in the PC to find it was an electronic user manual covering all Lexus cars: CT, IS, GS, etc. The only trouble is, for the IS, it is the last generation that is described on the CD. Has anyone had a CD covering the current version?

Exactly the same experience with the CD in mine.

  10. Hi Richard,

Good to hear from you and that you are having a good experience.

I am going to vary the start up screen family, landscapes showing time of year, holiday etc.

Finding the way round all the options and settings in the sat nav and audio takes some time. While I waited for someone the other day, and normally time moves slowly on these occasions, I watched a half hour of a DVD on the in built DVD player, time flew by.

Trying to keep a light foot on the throttle, this baby shifts rapidly.

  11. Wicksey - DJP, I am not sure mine is delivering any sound at all? What does it sound like? Mine is switched on green light and volume up to max.

Maybe I need a hearing test?

When in sport mode on the multi selector the car is self shifting. Select sport on the gear box and the multi switch then I have to use the paddles to shift up it is not auto. In this set up it is very swift.

Clocked up 800 miles this week and loved every mile.

  12. Thanks all for the advice.

    Today made lots of progress.

IPOD works fine now not changed any settings - but its fixed itself.

USB sticks - it doesn't recognise any older ones - but plug in a new one and bingo!

DAB radio - managed to get it working ! Woo Woo! Hovever i played arround a bit with the presets and they all disapeared. Despite atempting to re tune and search for new stations non apear! Doh! I'm hoping with a bit more fidling they might turn up!

Bluetooth hands free - Still disconnects and re connects with the phone every few mins without any reason - so I have temporarily given up with it as it is unusable and I find the text telling me it's disconnected and reconnected on the screen distracting.

On the plus side - had a very pleasant drive through the traffic of Nottingham today. Nevre have i been so relaxed with no clutch pedal and gears to worry about whilst wafting along in near silence.

54 mpg was achieved driving arround the city for most of the day. Pretty impressive! I love seeing the MPG value go up when your crawlng in traffic!!

Thought I had the favourites fixed in T phone, they all disappeared today. Software patch maybe required?

Can't fault anything else. Getting 47 mpg out and about and one 20 mile run on A road at 58mpg.

  13. Hi DJP

I agree but sometimes it can be very time consuming to get it all working at once. I think you can't connect more than one Bluetooth at a time.

The wired option. for I pod is great, charges it and the album covers come up quick on the screen.

Bluetooth connnection for the phone is slow particularly if your mobile displays a picture next to the contact, wired is quicker to connect and load up.

BT phone connection kept dropping contacts and favourites and I had set I up several times. Wired is fine and my contacts pictures come up on screen.

A conversation to have with service at Lexus I guess.

The live view connection is limited to a small numbers of phones. Have to use wi fi to connect, disappointed about that, but c'est la vie!

  14. Evening all

Just had the dellivery of my new IS300h SE on Tuesday - Its poverty spec with no extras and black paint - but Ilove it

Managed to get 65 mpg on mixed A road / village driving on my way to work the other day - so well impressed.

The only issues I have had is with regards the standard audio system and was wondering if it was just me with these problems:-[

DAB refuses to tune into anything

Does not recognise my USB stick

IPOD disconnects itself after a few seconds playing the first song

Bluetooth Mobile phone connection keeps disconnecting and re connecting.

Everything else - such as the brilliant handling - comfiest seats etc etc im very happy with. Just dissapointed with the stereo!

    Hi Derv,

I had some issues with phone and I pod, in the end I used the apple cable from I pod to USB cable and selected that on the set up audio page.

Check the compatility of your phone on the Lexus portl website, it will tell you the functionality if listed.

Check DAB availability in your area, when I first accessed that tab nothing appeared. In set up I think you can select the stations once the software has had time to scan for stations.

I find the USB cable for the phone is the most reliable connection method.

    Good Luck!

  15. I do think it takes a few days, and learning about a new car to make a judgement.

The magazines only offer an individual view. The IS stands out on the road surrounded by anonymous competitor's.

I am getting 47 mpg with spirited M way driving. In other hybrids I had they improve on MPG over time.

The sport mode on the gear box gives a flappy paddle shifter that YOU can control up or down shifting. There is a very noticeable increase in acceleration.

It is a no compromise petrol hybrid. period. full stop.
