Had it cleaned at cost of 400 including pick@ drop off as Im in London garage in Birmingham called car surgeon if take there 300.r u near Birmingham???? Last week used wynes dpf cleaner and it cleared it, think ur is severely blocked need it cleaned chemically replacement too expensive and I'm gonna sell it get is250, is ur driving mainly local every 2000miles use dpf cleaner hope this will help

Imran brought it back last night, cured at a cost of £309.00 for the service and another £70 for collection and delivery which I thought was a lot less than he could get away with charging considering the results . It drives better now than it did when I bought it five years ago. I should add that I thought I had got it to regenerate the last time the vsc light appeared, obviously not.

Perhaps it's time to sell it and move back to petrol power, which will mean no more lexus as I don't want an auto.

I know what the trouble is, an obd reader won't cure the problem of a blocked dpf.

I'm a lot closer than you ,but would still have the coll/drop off as I don't get a lot of time spare. is that inc or plus vat? either way still better than fitting a new one ( even aftermarket ) @ £600. just for the part.

Done the 6 monthly egr clean over the weekend, unfortunately I still have vsc lights on, or rather only when up to temp I still have them on. it drives perfectly until the temp come up to normal, soon as we get there, on come the lights along with limp mode. As soon as the temp drops a little, limp mode disappears although vsc is still on, then as soon as the temp come up again, vsc comes back on.

Any ideas ? cos I've exhausted mine.

It's always good to 'advertise' a good repair place, there are enough rip-off merchants about so it's useful to know where the good one are.

They're already fitted Scudney, they have been since the day it rolled off the line. Never having had to change a bulb on it (any bulb) I thought it about time to purchase some spares.

Hi Chaps, I realise this may have been covered but , with the hid option does this cover main beam as well or just dip beam?

Are you certain you're waiting for the green light? I sometimes press the start button before the clutch is fully depressed, suppose it's the same with the footbrake pedal on the auto/

On unsealed batteries there are normallysix large plastic screws in the top these screwa are uaually clearly marked with a cross or plus sign. remove one at a time and check the level through the opening the electrolyte level should be just above the metal plate that are visible through the hole.

Why not go stainless, still cheaper than dealer prices and you'll get a full system.

Does everything else work ok, all auxilliaries? if so, then it could be something like the immobiliser. I read a thread earlier from a member with a diesel who's got starting problems and his is pointing to the same thing( or could be ).

From re-reading the thread it sounds as though the laser reader ( the bit that scans the disc ) has become mis-aligned, it's the most likely if the head will play some discs and not others. possibly had a knock direct to the unit sometime ( possibly something in the boot moved). I wouldn't suspect component failure if it will play some and not others.

Are the discs that don't play properly 'original' or burned from a laptop? if it's the latter, then have you played them before and if so, did they play ok then?

Also bear in mind the difference in road tax, currently the 220d is £180 ( tax band G). the 250 is tax band L and according to the vca website that will be £490. both these figures are taken from the government website and are current since 1st april this year.

Many people on here will tell you not to touch one with a barge pole, but. I have an 09 plate, travel around 22k a year and the only problem I have had is with the egr valve caking up with carbon deposits. If you keep that clean, then it's as good as any other vehicle in my opinion. I get 37/8 mpg on supermarket fuel with one tank of shell regular evry now and again, if I take over 40 miles at one session that goes up to 42.

Sounds like the common (to these diesels) egr fault. it's an easy fix that you can do yourself if you invest a few hours. The fault isn't a fault as such it's the egr is now so caked with carbon build up that it is restricting the recirculated exhaust gases flowing through it . I do mine about every six months or so just to ensure that it stays relatively clean . There is a very good video on youtube of an Irish mechanic showing you what to do and how to do it ( if I can find a link I'll post it on here for you.)

Wouldn't you be better putting them on the roof if you're carrying four? make the steering very light with that much sprung weight outside the wheelbase. but if you do go that route then don't forget you will need door mirror extensions as well.

Of course, you could just find a better place to give your custom to in future.

Yes but now we know they can be driven off a cliff with no resultant body damage whatsoever. so that's nice.

Always good practice to change both sides at the same time.
