  1. Went back to the garage today and asked my man to kill the fault readout and check the fault code. He checked VSC found no faults, then checked engine... found no faults... Checked brakes... no faults, gearbox....no faults! Only thing found was a Historic Note (from months ago) PO172 Too rich on bank one. But that was sorted with 6 new plugs and 2 new coil-on-plug units.

Strange thing is that this time when fault readout was cancelled - IT DIDN'T COME BACK in the mile journey home. Now I have to wait and see what happens, I asked if the fault indication would affect the MOT, it would not UNLESS THE ABS LIGHT WAS ON.

  2. Now having 80,000 miles on the clock the eng light and VSC light have come on again, thought I noticed a very slight kind of judder through the steering wheel ??? But the car runs ok, took the car to my local garage (same as before) he put the diagnostic lead on which showed 'engine' or similar wording but nothing else showed up, he cancelled the display - but within 5 minutes it was back... What now if anyone knows?

    thanks

  3. Hi Jim,

Easy way to tell is if you have the "Hi" & "Lo" rocker switch between headlight washer and cigarette lighter socket by the gear stick.

My first thoughts with your clunk/noises would be worn bushes for the anti-roll bar...

Hi Chris, good to chat with you again, - I've just been out to the car to have a look, there is No "Hi" & "Lo" rocker switch - just a space between the headlamp washer switch and the cigi lighter... So what does this signify?

  4. Hi chaps, this is something I know nowt about, I've had my 300 for 10 years, (76,000 miles) before which it was a 'Showroom Demonstrator'. Driving it every day (almost) maybe I've acclimatised to it but it seems that the suspension has got a touch hard with an occasional clonk from the left rear somewhere not necessarily when going over bumps but sometimes on the flat.

Any Ideas? I'm not sure whether mine is an SE or SEL....

The 'clonk' ; When driving, braking, turning?

    When driving, sometimes when turning.

  6. Hi Chris, I've looked at this site earlier today - even took the CD out of the car to get its number which turns out to be nothing!

My disc says Europe 2004-2005 ver1 followed by 86271-70V 313, in trying to enter these details the system went bottoms up so I decided that there is no real update worth having. I have to say that my original disc only gives UK, Ireland, Monaco and another far away place, nothing on Europe at all.

  7. Hi Chaps, several years ago I enquired about a Nav CD Update and was shocked at the price - so instead I decided to buy a Garmin GPS from Halfords.... Having just replaced my Nav screen - because of my idiocy in wrecking it by using a suction mount on it I now am trying to find (again) an update Nav CD.

My existing CD is 1st generation so does anyone know what's available and from where please?

  8. The new (used) unit arrived this morning, all plastics transferred and the unit fitted back into the car - less than an hour! But boy is it good to have the reverse camera back but in addition EVERYTHING now works...

Won't be attaching GPS sucker to screen any more - it's too expensive a mistake!

Very many thanks Chris for your help that I couldn't have done without.

So now have just the RX400h Nav screen complete with plastics vent grills for sale if anybody is interested.

    Regards,

    Jim

  9. The reason for the next operation was intended to compare the digitiser screen with that on the unit removed from a 400h, to do this meant dismantling not only the defective unit removed from my car but also dismantling the perfectly useable but unsuitable 400h unit bought in error. First job was to remove the plastic outer shell from the defective Nav unit, the plastic shell comprising the air vent grills will later be fitted to the replacement (used) unit bought on eBay a day ago.

Attempting to get at the Digitiser screen the next job was to remove the switch unit mounted below - held by six self tapping screws, with the switch unit now dangling on its short multi wire harness the digitiser screen comes into full view appearing to be held in place by four screws, with these screws undone the screen showed no signs of wanting to release although the screen's ribbon connection became clearly visible and could have been disconnected using a pair of tweezers, at this point I had to review my future needs.

With a correct replacement (used) Nav screen due to arrive within a few days - and a now redundant perfectly serviceable 400h unit there is no point cutting OEM cable ties on the 400h unit just for the sake of making a comparison of the digitiser screen, but having gone this far it has been possible to identify the digitiser screen by a part number embossed on its stainless steel frame, the number, presumably manufactured by Futaba Ten, is: # 134835-121.

  10. Just this afternoon I've found an exact unit (used) in good condition on eBay so have ordered it, price slightly higher than BBA-REMAN quoted but good, I just have to remove the outer casing ready for transplant in a few days time.

Which leaves me with a redundant Nav display unit (bought in error) Toyota # 86110-48210; Fugitsu Ten # 134000-2870B101, removed from an RX400h all in excellent condition £295 inc postage.

    PM if interested.

  11. Hi Chris, Well it's a week later, I've got the new screen as advertised, and as I suspected the pins and sockets are different so the unit cannot simply be swapped. I'm adding a photo which will show the difference.

F286C187-F740-47CF-9193-BF6B63843A9D_zps the lower photo shows the unit from my 2004 RX300, the upper photo is the unit from an RX400h.

I've removed the unit in the car so now I have to send it away to company at Rochester and hope that they do a good job, after all they must have many satisfied customers or else they would have gone out of business....

  12. Chris, thanks once again, I've used PC repair shops before but don't think they delve into car Nav systems etc. the part I broke (through using the GPS sucker) is the plastics touch sensitive membrane on the screen, I wouldn't thing this comes off easily - but I don't actually know, tinkering here is a bit foreign to me, in my younger days I was much happier with a spanner.

It would be good if the membrane is removable then I could swap it over, have you been here before with this or similar problems?

    Jim
