    not really true, if the ambient light level inside the cabin is greater than outside, you can create a 'one way glass' effect.
    Same reason its quite often difficult to see other drivers in their cars.

    You really don't want this effect the other way round so you can't see out.

    Also more light in the cabin, the more your eyes will not full adjust to darkness outside. This kinda matters less cos of other headlights.
    I've already got my console brightness at minimum in night-mode and wish I could turn it down another few notches! 🙂

    I suppose it affects different people in different ways.

    I have tried dark mode on my sat nav and on my phone and don't like it. It takes me longer to read it. So I just leave it in day mode and I do a lot of driving.

    I have twice driven my car for 25 hours without stopping except for petrol, toilet and takeaway. Last year Torrevieja to Calais and a couple of years before that Sesimbra, Portugal to Calais. The lighting helped to keep me awake and alert.

    Honestly I prefer original subtle version rather this one. Of course it is personal choice. Hopefully you can dim it while driving.

    I am going to dim the lighting around the centre console, but what I realise is that if you look at it, it is bright but when driving you are not looking down and it really doesn't bother you.

    If you look at the top of the dashboard or just below the door glass the blue is not present, so it only shines from door handle going down. I do have one on the rear shelf behind the headrest to turn on and then I am finished. I have one wired in the booth to come on when opened as I find that light quite dim.

    Yes, but my point is that Waze, Sygic, Google Maps and more all have that facility within their navigation/mapping software, which is where that sort of information would normally be found, making it superfluous to include it in a camera. Being able to give you speed camera/speed limit warnings is not the primary reason for people to buy a dashcam.

    That is true. The primary reason I bought the camera was to record accidents and any incidents whilst I am driving or parked and it has served that purpose too. The other things are just extras.

    There's no denying that it has an impressive list of features* but at that price I'd be apprehensive about some scrote breaking in and nicking it - I'd want a camera to protect the camera :laughing:

    *Impressive though they undoubtedly are, a lot of them would be redundant and will already be present in whatever navigation and mapping app is used (unless one is relying on the awful Lexus offering).

    The amount of speeding fines and points I have saved to date has made the camera paid for itself.

    On returning from Portugal a few years ago, several months later I received about 3 speeding fines from France averaging about €60 each. None since I bought the camera.

  5. The very best dashcam out there now is the Thinkware T700. I have the Q800 Pro installed on my car from 2020. Did it myself.

    However, I recently installed the T700 on my friends car.

    T700 costs around £349 but do your research and get best prices.

    The features of the camera makes it more than just a camera.

    In the UK it warns you of:-

    Red light cameras;

    Speed cameras;

    Average speed cameras;

    Likelihood of mobile Speed cameras;

    It has lane departure warning (but volume is a bit low);

    It has forward collision warning at urban and high speed (but volume is a bit low);

    It notifies you when the vehicle in front has moved if you are not paying attention (but volume is a bit low);

    It records motion and impact when the vehicles is parked;

    It has built in car Battery protection where if the volts are dropping the camera will switch off;

    Where you return to your car and switch it on it can tell you if it detected an impact;

    With the T700 you get a sim card to be connected to Vodaphone for £3 pm giving you 300 minutes of data that allows you to find your car and also to view the front and rear camera from anywhere in the world;

    The above is handy when returning to your car you can check the surroundings beforehand;

    If the T700 senses and impact whilst parked it will send a notification to your phone;

    It also has an SOS button and feature to send notifications to someone you choose;

    When I use mine in Europe (with the Q800 Pro I have to download the European Programme to the memory card at Calais) I get similar notifications of cameras in Spain. In France it cannot tell you where a camera is (as that is against the law). But it can tell you if you are entering an area with a camera.

    Thinkware is cheaper than Black view and does not require an expensive Battery pack.

    I have used the accessories and stuck it to my front and rear glass and experienced UK winter and Spain summer and it has not fallen off.

  6. Dear Lexus owners,

    I have just had a service (January 2013) of my IS 250 SE-L 79,000 miles 07 plate (has a full lexus service history),and they checked the brake for me (brake fluid was low) and confirm the problem that has been posted above. However, my car was a later year to those recalled. When I am braking, the first time I press the brake is not all that but if I back and press again the car stands up. The dealer contacted Lexus who has refused to pay for the work, so I am doing some research before I contact them to make my case for them to pay for it. if they are not paying for it this will be my 3rd and final Lexus.

    If anyone has experienced this problem on a later year such as 07 please let me know. Thanks.

  7. Has anyone thought about why the USA get a GS350 with 303bhp and 0-60 in 5.7sec and we only get the GS300 with only 245bhp and 0-60 in 7.2sec? Seems that we are missing out there.

    In fact the GS350 has more power than the GS430 (294bhp). With that power and the lighter engine it would be a better handling car than the GS430. :whistling:

    Has anyone thought about modding their engine?

    I am not 100% sure but I saw what is a Toyota Camry in the UK badged as a GS350 in the states and the toyota Landcruiser as a Lexus jeep.

  8. Some shady looking characters were spotted by my neighbour in my driveway having a look at my gs430. Does anybody know how effective the security system in these cars is? Can they be easily knicked without the key? Is it a case of "where theres a will, there's a way" - if they want it badly enough, they will find a way of bypassing system? I'm not sure if I am more concerned about losing the car or them breaking into my house to get the key!

    I have a black sport GS 300 with tinted windows, 20 speakers, 20" rims and well pimped. From purchase I installed a Clifford Perimter Voice Alarm. If anyone goes close to the car it chirps and I can adjust the range at which it can be triggered and have had to do so on occasions.

    It can also go on voice where it tells the person to back away when they get too close. No one can get close to it to look inside as the alarm will go off. It is the best purchase I made after the car.

    I also know when traffic wardens get close and it alert drivers parking too close to it in car parks.

    My friend had his less than 12 months old GS stolen. They broke into his house, took the keys downstairs and drove off the car. He and his family were sleeping upstairs. The insurance replaced the car with a new one and several months later they found his car in Dubai with 70 Mercedes and 33 lexus. They got details of his car and address from DVLA and were well organised.

    If someone is going to break into your house when you are there, chances are they are armed and usually have an accomplice.

  9. hey guys. i'm in Australia and got myself a nice GS300 2000 model. fitting 20 inch rims next friday.

    i have lowered the car around an inch and a half. just springs, nothing major. is fitting the 20s gonna be any drama? i see some fat cars in this thread. but i just wanna make sure...

    any help would be good.

    Welcome to the UK forum.

    the black GS 300 above on this thread is mine. I have fitted 20" x 8.5" and have no problems with it. I do not know if your lowering of the car is going to affect it. Mine is the GS 300 Sport which is lowered by the UK dealer before sale.

  10. Lexus Park Lane reckon they can fix it straight away using their regular windscreen people (Fosters, I think).

    My screen has a crack in front of where the passenger sits three inches above where the window wipers park and it goes all the way to in front of the steering wheel (about 18 inches), Autoglass say this requires a full screen replacement not a repair and there is not a screen to be found!

    My friend has bought the new GS 300 and has had rattling form his door speaker, they have told him a couple of weeks before it can be replaced. Not good or maybe they did not expect anything to go wrong.

  11. Hello fellow members,

    I have a doubt about the new lexus GS 300 and GS 430. Both cars have a fuel tank of 71 liters, and 71 liters for a v8 is not that good (approx 500 km). I was thinking about buying the GS 430, but the fuel tank is the problem, its that here in Spain you can't get anywhere with a full tank.

    I have a BMW 7 serie, and I can perfectly get to Madrid (650 km) with a full tank, which is not that much, but good enough.

    So, my question is, do you think that there is a possibility that in the next coming year or 2 years Lexus will enlarge their fuel tanks, or will it stay like this???? If so, I will be thinking of buying a BMW, although I don't like the model (320 d) but it has a great motor.

    I really hope they change the fuel tank.  :P

    Thank you  :driving:

    Radium

    I am waiting on the petrol/electric hybrid version of the GS 300. It is supposed to have a 3.5 litre V6 engine, have the same consumption as a 4 cylinder engine and the performance of a V8 engine when the V6 and eletrci motors combine. That should get you to Madrid wiht no problem.

  12. finally the pics are up... :P

    they look very bling bling, but i'm not sure why it isnt quite pulling it off right in mind.

    i mean check out this 430

    gs430cv_f.jpg

    gs430cv_r.jpg

    wheels are similar to yours but it seems to have pulled it off much better.. maybe its the bodykit and chrome grill  :blink: just giving ya an excuse to spend more doh :lol:

    PS where you and henry at Gaydon 04? Really like the petrol cap mod.

    anyways bring her down to JAE we need more GSs and you can get feedback from potentially over 20'000 people ;)

    Hi, yes we were at gaydon. Could not make it this year, but hope to do so 2006. By then the television will be in the headrest and there will be nothing more to do on the car. I just saw some painted caliper with the Lexus badge on them I guess that is my next tasks

  13. You do indeed need the following:

    Warning triangle (2 for Spain)

    Shiny yellow reflective vest for each passenger (& driver)

    Bulb set

    GB sticker on rear of vehicle (Euro badge on number plate wil suffice)

    Stick on headlight beam deflector

    If you have a laser jammer - take it out, the frogs seize your car if they find one, they also dont like the detectors but you get to keep your car. :crybaby:

    All your driving documents - its worth while photocopying them as well in case you have to hand one over, keep the originals safe.

    And last, but not least UKD, lots of sun tan lotion as the weather predictions for next week look great.  :driving:

    Thanks again for the information. the only problem I have is the bulb kit, I have HID headlamps. I belive the bulb for it costs £150. I do not think I will buy that Kit. Do they check this and if so to what extent. i could always go and get a cheap bulb kit for a modeo or something and claim that they sold me the wrong one if they take a closer look. But it would not be worth my while paying £150 + for the bulb kit for my car. What do you guys think.
