    Thanks Howard. Just on the replacement cluster side of things, I'm guessing it was a straight swap, without editing the IC105 thingy (sorry for being so technical)? Or were you able to get the odometer set as required? If so, can I ask how much a replacement cluster was, and how much to set the odometer?

      I've got a UK LS430 which I'd like to ship back to Australia.

      Mine runs mph for everything, including the odometer. When it gets there, I'd like to convert it so that it correctly reflects its odometer, and continues to correctly add increments in kilometers. Are you able to advise on how I might be able to do this? I saw in your build that you had some cluster assistance from Soarer Surgeon NZ. Was that for the same issue? Would you recommend I speak with them for this?

    ........... and I do recall looking at the prices brand new for the Ls600 a couple of years back and the car import tax regime in Oz was amazing .....  your normal Ls600 was delivered cost there at @ £250k  ......  yes GBP     POUND STLG 

    so it might be worth checking out the import regime if you're thinking to take it there

    Thanks for your reply. I'm an Aussie, and previously imported a car back to Australia in 2009.

    I know the rules have changed, and I've been through them, so I have a fair idea, but I'm missing the answer to some specific things (like this one).

      Looks like I'm moving from the UK back to Australia, and I'd like to take my car with me.

      I've tried looking for info on this, but haven't had any luck. My car is a 2005 ls430 UK delivered, which I've owned for 8 years. I love the car, which is why I want to keep it. I'm only the second owner and I know its history, etc.

      Does anyone know if it's possible to change the odometer to correctly reflect the current mileage in kilometers?

  5. Hi All,

      I was run into by someone, and their insurance has initially paid out to me, and I currently still have my car. The next step is for them to arrange to pay for the salvage, and then take my car away.

      The state of it is it was swiped across the front right corner, and slightly hit on the mirror. No air bags went off, and it looks like cosmetic damage to me. The car drives 100% as before, no issues at all aside from a lightly grazed corner.

      I'm in two minds about this, as the salvage value seems very low. I realise the car is a Cat D (or whatever the new system is these days). On the one hand, I'm enjoying driving an LS, which if I was offered one at the salvage price quoted, I'd take hands down, as wafting around in a cheap LS seems like a bargain.

      But on the other hand, I'm still paying insurance at the previous value (it will have gone down in value now), and still getting stung by DVLA every month. Alongside this, my comprehensive insurance included business travel.

      This might be a good time to move onto a different car; I could just take the salvage offered (please, don't ask for hard figures, as this isn't some camouflaged for sale ad), but am genuinely surprised how low it is. I don't mind breaking it, as I have plenty of space at home, but have never broken a car, and could do with some advice about how best to go down this path, what the considerations might be, etc. I guess my view is if I sold a few bits off it and then it became a paperweight, what would it cost to then ship off the shell? I might not even break even, in which case, it might be better to just let the salvage guys take it.

      Any general advice would be appreciated.

  6. Thanks Mike. I just had a look at the specs, and I must admit, it does look quite good.

    Can I ask, if you were going to do it all again, would you buy the same one? Are there any additional features you wish it had, or do you reckon it does everything practically required?

    I don't have any experience whatsoever with these things, so maybe (quite likely) my queries are poor, but I read the specs and thought the duration of video saved might be low (5 minutes), but then I guess if something happens, you should be able to stop it wrapping over itself and losing the important bit?

    On a separate note, I had my car keyed a few months ago, and one of the spec items have me rally interested. It talks about motion detection. I'm guessing you could set it to record video and / or photos when detected? But then if you left you car in a busy car park, even though you might catch someone vandalising your car, when other cars drive past looking for a spot, I would have thought this would then cause the video to continue, and eventually write over the bit one might want, hence the 5 minutes buffer in this specific instance wouldn't work.

    Curious to know from a practical perspective what you thought?

  7. Hi Phil,

    My first one was great, but did have a few small issues. It was 7 years old at the end, so I was pleasantly surprised how good it was for so long.

    It had an issue with the steering column not telescoping, and an interior trim piece on the nearside rear window kept coming adrift of the door. It was the bit that housed the courtesy blind for the rear three quarter window, I think.

    This one is 10 years old now, and while I was a bit worried about the issues from the first car, this one is rock solid even now.

    I've tried contacting that vendor earlier today without luck. Some people may be interested to know, I've asked LexusPartsDirect, and was told by John a new replacement was just short of 600 pounds. Some breakers have the same part for 90 pounds.

    That one you've mentioned is particularly ideal, as I may get away without having to spray it; depends.

    OK, so this morning, I'm driving along, and someone coming in the opposite direction has swerved onto my side of the road, crossing the white lines, and our mirrors have collided.

    The other guy kept driving, and due to traffic, I was unable to catch a plate.

    So, mine is now in need of replacement.

    Can anyone point me in the direction of a spare (2005 model, preferably gold).

    As I rolled back into home, I was left pretty annoyed, and then when I saw the damage, I was seething. Its just not worth claiming on insurance, and will presumably leave me out of pocket for some other persons mistake and also their decision to keep driving away from their responsibility.

    I've just bought my second ls430. This one is a 2005, my previous one was a 2001.

    Funnily enough, they were both the same colour - gold.
