ZX, thanks for the reply. I changed both the CamShaft sensors and still shows up and after a few months now I have been watching it and noticed something strange.....The light always comes on when the fuel tank drops to just above 3/4 full and goes off again when it gets to just over 1/4 tank full. Very strange and the car drives and runs fine, no excess revvyness at all. I had read somewhere about the pressure in the fuel tank causing problems because the seal on the fuel cap was not right.

My Lexus dealer gave me the same line "strip the engine down to check the timing chain" and it would cost about €2,500 to do it!!!

I might just get two new VVTI solenoids and see how it goes from there. The car runs and drives like a dream even though the error is there.

Hi All, my EML comes and goes. I read in a post that it could be as simple as changing the fuel filler cap. I removed mine and it had no suction at all, plus it had been crossed threaded by the previous owner. Getting a new one tomorrow. So fingers crossed.

  2. Hello All, I've been looking in having someone look at my hybrid Battery on my Lexus gs450h, as I may need a few cells changing. As I've had a hybrid check system error, come up. Does anyone know of someone who is up on fixing these in the Merseyside area please? I've been to Lexus and they just want to change it, which of cause is far too expensive.

  3. Just undone my fuel filler cap and no suction / vacuum at all. So I've ordered a new cap, should be here on Thursday. Fingers crossed. Thanks again

Thank you for the reply. WoW!!!! now you mention it. Mine too felt like it is cross threaded. Right off to Lexus to order one. Fingers crossed, a cheap fix would be amazing. Thanks so much.

You can get a new timing chain with kit for around £300 from the us and then get a good indy garage to replace it for you0

Great thread gents and very interesting. I'm getting this message too, my EML comes on, but I'll have to keep an eye on when it does ie full tank etc... and it does go out but haven't noticed when either. The car drives beautiful, with or without the light on. So it will be great to know if you get it sorted and how. I'll add it to here if I get it sorted in the mean time.

    @OldTrout - Yes, exactly that.

@carnut1980 - Yes that is correct, these are the Gen2 modules and will fit the GS HV battery pack.

A quick update, battery still operating as it should with about 6 months of use now. I did briefly have an engine warning lamp but this was due to crank position sensor, a common fault. I cleared the codes and it hasn't come back since. Tanabe NF210 springs have been fitted and handling has been vastly improved! I have done the DVD mod for passengers and will also be fitting an AUX/USB kit when it arrives. My plan is to flush mount the aux port in the centre armrest compartment.

Hi, excellent write up. Thank you. Very informative. You mention about the crank position sensor, does this have a code of p0017, by any chance ? Only asking as I have the same and you state it's a common problem. What causes it, is it as people say the timing chain has stretched? Does this issue cause any major issue to worry about? Because I am thinking of selling mine because of this issue.

First time I've heard of a timing chain problem on any Lexus, what mileage is the car at?

Hybrid battery packs can now be repaired so at least some good news, thinking about that I have all the PPE kit for LV repairs up to 1000 Volts could be my retirement plan.

Thanks for the reply. The car has only done 87k. Do you know of any repair specialists in the north west? As they all seem to be down south.

The P0017 could be a result of work being done on the engine incorrectly rather than a stretched chain. See here:

Ideally we would need to know the new fault codes to determine the battery issue, however this has affected several owners. If you search this forum you will find examples and one or two options to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the reply and the link for advice. Will look in to that, as it has been recalled for a fault as mentioned.👍

  8. Dear All

My first time using the website , so hello.

After reading a few blogs, the website seems to be really helpful and informative. So I hope someone can help or at least give me direction.

I have a Lexus GS 450h, and whilst driving my engine management light came on, I took it to Lexus who have said it came up with an error code of p0017 crankshaft position camshaft position correlation B1/SB, possible stretched timing chain. Could this be anything else or is the chain definitely stretched?

Also after having the light reset a few days later a fault came on the screen say check hybrid Battery, this also stopped the hybrid Battery working and put the antiskid light on the dash too.

Could any one please offer any advise. Thank you in advance.
