  1. Hi All,

    OP here.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply to me. I really really appreciate it.

It must have been the Battery.

Even though I had tried to jump start it off my neighbours Battery, I feel even his Battery was not providing enough power.

It was cranking over good enough, but I feel at the same time, the batter voltage was being dragged down below what the electronics could cope with.

I removed the Battery to indoors, and charged for a full 12 hours overnight.

Following morning, I reconnected my charged Battery, and the engine was very close to starting, but not quite.

So I started my wife's Honda Civic, and while her engine was running, I connected my jump leads.

Then I could immediately hear her engine come under load, as her alternator kicked additional power into my Battery.

I left the two cars connected by jump leads for around 5 minutes, and with her Honda still running, I tried to start my Lexus.

After the 2nd attempt it started.

I disconnected the jump leads, from both her Honda and my Lexus, and closed her bonnet, and switched off her engine.

My Lexus was purring like a pussy cat once again.

I closed the bonnet, and went for a drive for 10 minutes. Everything working 100% as if there was never a problem.

When I got back home, I switched the engine off, and was immediately able to restart it, it cranked over really good, and fired up withing half a second.

Remembering back to the night before my "non-start" problem, I did move the Lexus forward half a metre, but all I did was press the auto shift lock button, and pull the stick from Park and then into Neutral.

I just physically pushed it half a metre and popped the stick back into Park.

Apart from that every thing was exactly normal.

I am beginning to think something was left on overnight, draining the Battery.

  2. Hi All,

I feel very let down by my ultra reliable IS250.

I went out to it this morning, touched the door handle and it automatically unlocked, nothing wrong there.

Parked myself in the drivers seat, foot on the brake (it's auto) green light illuminates on the push start, nothing wrong there

I press the start button, all the needles, gauges, dash lights all lit up, speedo and tacho needles spin the full distance, and go back to rest at zero.nothing wrong there.

At the same time while pressing the start  button, engine cranks over, and normally it fires up within a second or second and a half,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but not this time.

The starter kept cranking for around 6 seconds and stopped.

OMG, Thats not normal, it's never done that before.

Presses the start button again, the starter started and kept cranking for around 6 seconds and stopped again, just like before.

    Heart is now sinking fast,

Presses the button, still green as my foot is still on the brake,   the starter started and kept cranking for around 6 seconds and stopped again, just like before.

What to do, has a 3/4 tank of fuel, has Battery power, (I have took the Battery out tonight to charge it indoors) but what on earth can it be ??

I am so sad this has let me down

As Lee above said Hybrid Battery solutions do make a conditioning charger, but charging the battery to save fuel is not what it is for.

The battery holds at normal full charge "80% actual charge maximum" around 800 watt hours of usable electricity"

The car dependent on driving conditions takes around 500 watt hours to travel one mile so you may be able to drive along a flat road for 1.5 miles. At that point the engine would have to start to keep the car moving, and also make electricity to bring the battery up to a reasonable level of charge. This would negate any saving made from the charging of the battery off the mains.

The cars computer controls how and when the battery is charged, and discharged it does this very well. I do not know if the RX400H has an EV (electric vehicle) switch on the dash. If it does the only reasonable time to use it is if you wish to swap cars round on a driveway when the engine is cold. This saves a cold start on the engine a time when a lot of fuel is used and lots of pollution occurs

    John.

    Thanks again

However I can use free electricity at work to charge said batteries.

    Work is 3 miles away.

So this is an option I am thinking

  4. Hi all,

    I am considering a RX400h

Does any one know what the overall voltage is of the hybrid Battery pack?

I understand that to charge the Battery, this is done by way of running the engine.

Under stop / start conditions, at what speed does it stop running on the Battery pack, and the I.C. engine cut in?

If I was in continual slow traffic of say, 5 mph to 10 mph, how far would one expect to be able to drive just on the Battery pack?

    Thanks for any replies.

  5. Hi all,

    My wife likes my IS250.

However we were recently in Dublin, and took a taxi ride in an immaculate, cream leather  GS300 from the airport into town.

It was a 2008 GS300, used as a taxi for the past 4 years, and it was in showroom condition, with 232k km on the clock, I was truly amazed at the condition.

    My question,

Which years have the traditional auto boxes, and which years have the CVT boxes.

I would prefer she get the traditional 6sp auto.

    Thanks all

That depends on the travel you do, my best of 38MPG is achieved on London malaise... I am sure I can easily get in low 40s.. I think I have seen something like 43.1... But I never travel at speeds like 64MPH either.. more like flip 6 upside down.

    Yes,

You are quite right, traffic congestion has such a  massive bearing on consumption.

Lucky for me, my engine, and oil warms quite quick, as after just  1 mile, I am on the motorway doing 55 mph, for thew next 19 miles, where I have just another 1 mile of A road to work.

  7. Your high figure for your MPG, is  still quite low in my opinion.

    I have the 5w30 oil.

On my run to work and back,  which is 21 miles each way, I sit on cruise with the tacho' on 2000 rpm, giving an indicated 68 MPH, which is 64 MPH on GPS.

I always  seem to get pleasing  MPG for the trip there and back, which is around 49 MPG.

But must take off 4 MPG for inaccurate  onboard computer. so a reliable 45 MPG.

  8. Hi all,

As my IS 250 (2007) has the projector headlamps, I feel that the current halogens sitting behind them, are not the greatest

I am interested in fitting a set of H.I.D. at 6000k, which is not that very blue colour that one some times sees.

I believe the standard dip beam is H11, and that the main beam is HB3, not that I plan on replacing the main beam any way.

For interest, the front fog light is HB4

I guess there may be people who have done this previously, so I ask, do you think it was money well spent ?

Looking at costs of about 50.00

  9. Hi all,

Please can some one explain to me how to adjust the auto-on headlight sensitivity.

Reading the hand book, it suggests that the default is setting 3

However the setting range is 1 to 5

I would like if possible to have my auto headlights come on sooner.

At the moment on the default setting, I feel the outside daylight is too low, before it brings on the auto headlights.

I did think about putting a darkish plastic film over the daylight sensor, but would rater a more suitable fix.
