Another attempt with 3rd USB stick formated to FAT32 with update files only and sane story. After 2h I had to cancel update.

Is there any one else willing to share update files for IS300h with premium nav? Guys please help.

I updated my maps and the latest firmware was included on the SD card.  I got a really good deal I think I paid around £65 on eBay.

  2. Scotty Kilmer on his youtube channel and website.  He's been repairing cars for around 50 years and knows what he's talking about with lots of practical advice based on his experience.

Ask him which car to buy and he will nearly always say Toyota!  He owns several cars one of them is an old Celica with over 250K miles that still shifts perfectly.  He bought his wife a Lexus.

It is useful, a few weeks back I took my son into the peak district for his Duke Of Edinburgh walk.
As I was descending into Hathersage, it is quite a steep hill, and its 30mph, so I 'dropped it down' a couple of gears, as one wasn't enough and it held it at 30mph all the way down.

I may get to try this again soon as a visit to Scotland is on the horizon.

That's a good idea and I'm glad I discovered it. I will probably use it when I'm on holiday.  East midlands is fairly flat so I will keep it in D most of the time.  It's good that it cancels again by itself.

I thought it might have also given a low gear when climbing a similar hill.  Maybe it's not such a problem now autos have 6 gears.  In previous Hondas or Hovers (Honda Rovers) D3 would also provide extra control preventing the box from repeatedly going up and down through the gears when climbing a steep hill as if it couldn't make up its mind.     Then switch back to D for normal driving with overdrive.  The Lexus handbook could be clearer, it does mention to prevent unnecessary up shifts, how many upshifts to you have when braking?  It's almost as if they hadn't finalised the feature when the book was written as it also mentions 'a certain amount of time'...

It's not a problem now I know how it works, it's easy enough to select Manual mode when I feel the need for greater control or overtaking.   I'm impressed with the ride and how smooth the transmission is.

    1. Standard light bulbs for interior light and boot.  I thought these would be LED.  Not sure how bright the boot light will be when needed to be used in the dark winter months?

    2. Firmware update is dealer only in the EU for the Nav system.

    3. DAB aerial is on the rear window, the reception could be better around here.  I wouldn't have minded a good aerial on the roof.  Having said that it does work surprising well for a window aerial.

    4. Glove box size.  Not sure I will keep both handbooks inside it, not much room left if I do,

    1. The look of the car, great styling!

    2. Build quality including the interior.  Looks so much better than Infinity.   It feels and looks premium!

    3. The Premium Nav and sound system is really good.  Not perfect, could be better but works well for me.

    4. The ride, very little body roll.  Turning circle.  Smooth and quiet.  Very comfortable interior.

    5. Reliability.

The manual does state that when using shift ranges in D it only really used for deccelerating (engine braking), try it when in S and see if it stays longer. The manual states when in Sport mode one can use shift ranges for increased accelerating force..

You're right.  It works as you said, it's only for engine breaking.  The handbook isn't clear and misleading when it mentions to avoid unnecessary upshifting.  Might be useful going down a steep hill to save the brakes.....

Thanks I will give it a go.

The manual also says "preventing unnecessary up shifting".  Remembering my old Rover 620 (on my IS300 I used D or manual only), it had D and D3.  D3 would not allow the car to go into overdrive (4th top gear), you could use it to drive up a steep hill or going down one, also good for twisty roads.

The car is going into MK Lexus for the wheel arch recall on Wednesday and under guarantee with Arnold Clark so I'll have a go and see what Lexus say.

Any of these criteria apply? (from the owner's handbook

Automatic deactivation of shift range selection in the D position
Shift range selection in the D position will be deactivated in the following situations:
    ● When the vehicle comes to a stop
    ● If the accelerator pedal is depressed for more than a certain period of time
●When the shift lever is shifted to a position other than D

I imagine you accelerated for more than the accepted period of time?

    Thanks for the reply

I was maintaining  23 to 35 MPH, so the accelerator was slightly open at the time I selected D4/D5.   Do I need to take my foot off the accelerator, select D5  or D4 etc, then apply the accelerator?   This would seem to imply that it is only intended to slowing down?

It changed from D4 or D5 back to D after around 3 seconds of use, the period of time cant be 3 seconds?   I would have thought a few minutes?

I might need to try this again tomorrow.   The car drives fine, manual modes works well as expected.  Car has only 4000 which is nice and low for a 2014 car.  I might not have been going fast enough for those gears?

  8. So I thought I would try the Auto modes where you can stop it going higher than a certain gear.  I fully understand the idea, I normally use this features on twisty roads to stop the gearbox from constantly going up and down.  I selected D5, the display changed as expected.  I got the impression the car down shifted, then after around 3 seconds the display changed back to D (no D5), I pressed the - paddle again and it showed D5.  then back to D.   I then tried moving down to D4, the same thing happened, display changed back to D.  When I pressed the - paddle again it showed D4 (not D5) so it had remembered that I had selected D4.

I was expecting the display to show D4, D5 etc until I held the + paddle to switch back to normal Drive.  Am i doing something wrong, does the display show D when D4 is selected?

What's stopping someone copying the SD card?

My understanding is there is some kind of protection on the card, it then pairs with the Sat Nav on insertion.  I have read elsewhere that used cards don't work for this reason.

It may be possible for a an experienced hacker to copy the card?   I suspect these are being sold off as we are approaching the changer over to the next map update.  These will soon be considered 'the previous release'.

  10. My reply from Lexus, basically sorry dealer only...

    Dear Mr ********,

Thank you for your email regarding your Lexus IS250.

I have read your email and it appears you want to update your firmware for your multimedia system.

Unfortunately at the Lexus Head Office, we do not provide firmware or website links to download the firmware for your vehicle.

We used to provide map updates on our previous website until Lexus decided to revamp their website, the new revamp of the website has removed the e-Store which was included in the previous website as there was constant complications with our website.

If you are interested in updating your multimedia system's firmware, you would have to visit your local Lexus dealership as all the updates are done at the dealerships.

    I hope this helps.

I do apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you.

    Kindest regards,

    Moses

I've emailed the following to Lexus enquires:

There is much talk on various forums regarding the Firmware updates.  People are comparing versions, some have downloaded updates via www.lexus-tech.eu.  Others have taken their car to their local Lexus Service centre to be upgraded only to be told they already have the latest version which when checked is older than some other cars that haven't been updated.  Dealers appear to be clueless.

My car currently has version VD12103A.  It appears the latest version is now VD12104A or maybe there is a newer version out now?

In the USA it's a simple process to upgrade the firmware (as some in the UK have discovered with www.lexus-tech.eu).   For some reason Lexus in the EU / UK have made this difficult.  It also appears that www.lexus-tech.eu have removed the link and this is a chargeable service from them anyway.

I work in the electronics industry so used to upgrading Firmware and basecode on Broadcast equipment.  Is it possible for you to send me the latest Firmware so I can update this myself?  Maybe you could consider making this easier for customers so we have a similar experience to our American friends?

The Firmware is uploaded from a USB stick, I understand there are two files ( HASHLIST.DAT and LOADING.KWI).  A history change log would also be useful.

Please can you send me the latest Firmware or a provide a download Link.

    I'll keep you updated....

  12. Hi, I'm picking up my 2014 Premium IS250 on Saturday.  It has the optional SatNav and I was wondering about the update.  I work in the Broadcast electronics industry and spend most of my day upgrading units so I was keen to get the latest firmware.

Is there any chance you can help with a link?  Is this the right version for my car?

Check the connections at the satnav unit in the boot. The speakers in the drivers door route through this. If it's been removed you'll need to join the wires.

The ones you need look like this.

Anyone still got the wiring picture?  I've just binned my satnav and need to join the two wires in the boot...

    Thanks
