I started experiencing weird audio issues, like the volume goes up and down, crackles, and, if I'm using radio, sometimes it will seek next radio station on its own. CD sometimes does work and the sound is perfect.
Here's a sample video of how it sounds on radio (and aux):
Lexus priced me at 2k for replacing the whole unit, and eBay has lots of second hand ones for ~10% of the cost, but they all look slightly different to what I have.
I could either fix the whole thing but this can prove to be difficult. Is it possible that the amp is responsible for the volume/crackling, in which case I can just replace that for now? Anyone had similar issues?

Yesterday rained quite a bit, seems like the 2nd noise, then one that sounds like bed springs, tends to go away. Wondering whether it might be a seal on the back lid.

Hi
thanks for the reply. I think the bushings may be one cause, the car is 60k miles but almost 12 years old now, and took it to Lexus when bought it new and they did say bushings need replaced. Took it to my local indie and they said that there's plenty more life in them. I'll be taking the car back to them next week, so will write an update. If they don't find anything wrong (and the last time they didn't, but this time around I send them these videos) then I will ask about the shocks. The ride isn't too bad still, but the noise is not great, and I've got OCD when it comes to noises in a car, so really keen to find out what is it and fix it 😬.

Repost of one I did earlier but videos didn't play, will delete the duplicate.
So I've been hearing these for a while now:
First link noise can be heard clearly. Not very good sound on the second link, but sounds a bit like old bed springs would sound and tends to dampen some days.
Any ideas what these might be?

Anyone can recommend roof rails and bike rack for 2010 RX? My model doesn't have roof bars, so the rails would use the fixing points on the roof. As for the bike rack, I'm thinking the type that's fitted at the back to keep the height low and so I can use the top rails for a roof box or perhaps a tent.

Really? I thought these were meant to be top notch. What's the £200 one you've got your eyes on? I have to replace media unit on my car as the Bluetooth module is broken, so I'd rather replace it with something more modern instead. That is, provided, I can replace whole media unit with the third party one.
-
Have you checked https://gromaudio.com? I've reached out to them asking about one for my 2010 RX but they haven't gotten back to me yet. I think it's worth it though, they seem to be one of the best for this kind of thing.

Thanks for the answer, it's good to know ahead of the trip. Wouldn't want to drain the wrong Battery 😄

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they would. We'll find out next Thursday. But the car drives well, suspension feel pretty great - although stiffer than my GS430 I had before. Just few very faint squeaks every now and then. The dealer put these fixes as amber. If it's the time to replace them I'm sure my indie will charge far less what Lexus want. And I can live w/o Bluetooth for now. Considered putting in Grom Vline anyway.

Didn't expect anything major to come up, brought it in for geometry and that's the only thing I'm having done there. I've looked up Bluetooth modules on eBay, booked my local indie I used before to have a look at the suspension. Thanks for the link and advice. I'll surely not go to the main dealer for anything other than Battery health checks 😄

Just been to Lexus with new to me RX450h 2010 model with under 60k on the clock. They quoted me a small fortune for few things. One of them is Bluetooth module (almost 2k), but more worryingly - front suspension arm bushes split from housing advise replacement and rear trailing arm bushes creaking/squeaking advise replacement at around £2750. Quite costly repairs. Does anyone here have any advice on replacing this outside of Lexus and experience with non OEM parts for suspension?
-
Makes sense, thanks for your advice. Another factor is that the air suspension model last owner did maintenance himself, since he's meant to be a mechanic, and there's no service logs. That has no chances agains full 11 or so stamps done at Lexus.
-
Thanks, I think I'll go the the strut one. FSH from Lexus and 1 owner probably outbalance the extra few speakers and gizmos on SE-L (that one is SE-I). Cheers!
-
Thanks, yeah, I'm looking at a 45k SE-L model with air suspension and 55k SE-I w/o air suspension. Former 2 previous owners and FSH, latter 1 previous owner FSH, both 2010. Both seem like good options, practically same price too. Do you think air suspension adds a lot to ride quality?
-
Yeah, I'm looking at 2010 models, so no bueno on the warranty. I looked up services on eBay that claim to refurbish the air suspension struts for around 80 quid a piece. Maybe that's a worthy route out of misery of owning one with air suspension?
-
Thanks, good to know. I'll try to find a SE-L on regular coils then. Out of interest, how much would the Lexus warranty set me back for? Might be something worth going for either way.

I'd like to buy one, but not sure if to go for one with air suspension or to avoid them. I'm looking at the model that started in 2009, examples with around 40-70k miles on the clock. I know air suspension can be problematic and pricy to repair, should I avoid or go for it?

It could be that your 12V battery is on its way out? Mine is a 450h but I do get the VGRS error if my 12V battery is very low on charge.
I'd certainly try a fresh 12V battery as a starting point.
Hopefully it is not alternator. Had the Battery light flicker once before, might have been an indication of Battery running out. Battery was last replaced in Sept 2014 I guess that' pretty old.
-
I've driven a bit yesterday and got the VGRS and ABS lights lit up together with loud long beep. Today this happened right as I started the car. I turned it off, and couldn't start again. I played with the button and eventually things slowly died out. What would make sense to do to diagnose? Jump it, replace the Battery if the jump didn't help?

Did you get any fluid out? You need some to run out so you know it is at the full mark. If you get nothing then you aren't sure if it is just at the correct level or low.
You do need to be sure the fluid is good and filled correctly before assuming something more serious. There is the possibility that all the contamination wasn't removed the first time from all the clutches so another change can only be a good thing.
Cheers Colin. No, no fluid came out. I think I'd like to change it again, just need to find a specialist who will change it completely, and not just drain.

you can get remanufactured torque converters for less than £200 from Rockauto and other places in the US - cheaper if you can get the old unit back to them as an exchange. It is possible that the lock-up clutch on the TC is the cause of the shudder but would need more precise info to determine that.
Thanks for the info, that's a good price. I'm not sure how to determine what's causing the shudder. Could be the converter, or perhaps the amount of fluid is not right - I diid check the overflow drain at the right temperature (via the diagnostic mode which activates on shorted OBD pins) but with the A/C running. I wonder whether complete oil change might be the best next move?

Since I csnt find a decent roof rack for 2nd gen GS (nonexistent), I might avoid buying RX, and stick to saloon cars. Used to have 04 LS430 and loved every minute with it (guess how it died? Yeah, coolant from radiator and transmission fluid mixed...) Can you point me in the US £300 roof rack direction? Does this price include shipping? Customs?
I have a GS430 (mark 3) - had the fluids mixed too, but a garage flushed it enough times and it works except for shuddering. I'm not sure if this means that the transmission needs replaced. Did you experience any shudders (30/40mph) or were the symptoms more serious?

Sometimes is rarely, really, and then it seems that I cannot skip between tracks. When it works, the aux and radio have the same issue. So symptoms are different between sources, ie. CD sounds always great when it works and aux/radio always sounds bad. I ordered new head unit, but w/o a cd charger. Will try replacing and see if that solves the aux/radio issues.
