  1. Yes it is the Make and Model number e.g Pioneer X223,

    the 3 digit security code I have is wrong so I have 6 more attempts before the whole thing is locked completly. Aparently the security code is normally set to the last 3 digits of your VIN number, however it has been changed.

    Nakamichi N604 / C725ULOA seems to be the model for the US version of the car, the guy who may be able to decode it said if I had the make and model he would be able to tell if he has the correct program to unlock it ..... looks like Im going to have to remove it anyway.

  2. Been trying to find the OEM standard wheel offset for a Mk3 LS400. 38-45mm seems to be the acceptable range quoted by many alloy wheel suppliers, a different one told me yesterday that the exact offset was 50mm???

    Does anyone know what the exact offset of the original wheel is? and what the acceptable tolerance is

  3. Thanks for the replies folks,

    Getting to the bottom of the vibration took a little time with 3 balancing attempts by different garages, I got some advice from Tony aka (wheelsinmotion) who suggested I needed the balancing done on a 5 stud plate.

    Couldnt find anyone with a 5 stud plate but found a local alloy wheel specialist and it turns out the spiggot rings were missing from one side of the car, he put 2 new ones on but there is still a little play there so I still dont think these rings are exactly the right size.

    Anyway the vibration has been reduced to almost non-existent.

    Tangray, Where did you get your poly bushes? I think that might be the next maintenance item on the list

  4. After a year of looking Ive just bought my first lexus, a FSH 95 LS400 with 160k on the clock which I am really pleased with. It has a few problems which I was aware of at the time and Im having some trouble deciding which bits to sort first.

    Im getting a light but annoying vibration in the steering wheel around 55-60mph. So, I Got front wheels balanced today and the vibration is still there, however I couldnt be 100% sure that the garage I used were 100% accurate, the car also has 17" whellmania alloys with 235/45/17 tyres and I have to assume the previous owner did not have the geometry checked & adjusted.

    Could there also be offset problems, how can I tell as the handling while excellent is not just as good as other ls400s I have driven. It wanders a little and I know I can feel and hear a light rumble from the front on more uneven roads which I am assuming is confirming the Jan/05 Service report which indicated there was some grease leaking from the O/S/F ball joint and some play in the track rod

    My thought was to Replace ball joint and track rod on one (or should it be both sides), I intend ordering the parts from the states so this is a few weeks away, and then look at geometry or could a geometry check first be useful in diagnosing any other potential problems.

  5. Hardware firewall/router is a better option than software based firewall, most are not that difficult to configure and once they are set up you shouldnt need to make changes. If you dont know how to set them up get a local IT head to do it for you.

    The result will be much more effective than using Norton/Zonealarm which constantly keeps asking you if you wish to allow certian processes to acces the internet. Most IT people would have to spend some time working out what they are never mind the average computer user.

    Get a firewall with SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection), most cheap router/firewalls have this nowadays.

    Totally agree with AVG/Adaware/Spybot/Spywareblaster, just dont forget to update them regularly and run regular complete scan. The free version of adaware does not run in real time, you need to purchase it for full protection.

    Google toolbar has an additional popup blocker which is useful if you are not running Win XP although spybots is also quite effective

    Anyone using dial-up, - get BT to ban all outgoing premium rate calls, some Virus/Trojan programs will quite happily dial these numbers and run up a nasty phone bill on you

  6. Im new to the forum so apologies in advance if my rant below offends anyone BUT

    What about speed... not the drug but a heavy right foot... Weve all done it and it is probably just as dangerous as drugs.

    I know if I were walking along the road Id rather meet a stoner driving slow than a lunatic driving too fast.

    My wife was a witness for the prosecutrion in a car accident case about a year ago. Two cars racing on a dual carriageway crossed the central reservation and ploughed into an oncoming car killing a 5 year old child and seriously injuring several more people..... Simply because one of the cars they were going to pass didnt see them coming and moved out to overtake.

    These guys were in their late 30's and should have had more sense. No alcohol was involved...... If they had smoked a joint before they went out they might not have bothered having a race.....

    Im not advocating taking drugs while driving but at one time or another most of us are guilty of driving too fast.

    The slower reaction time from a stoned/drunk driver or the increased stopping distance of a fast one equals the same thing ....

    The lexus in the isle of wight looks, good however the seller has no feedback which leaves it a little risky.

    I honestly didnt even consider e-bay until recently. There hasnt been any LS400's in autotrader or the local dealers in N. Ireland for some time so i decided to have a look.

    There seems to be a few e-bay sellers who specialise in high spec cars and the ones Ive seen have good feedback from their customers. In some ways this should make it less risky than buying from an independent dealer. Unfortunately some of them seem to go for way over their market value.

    LEXUS LS400, 91/J, EXCELLENT SERVICE HISTORY, AIR CON

    It looks like a really nice car but tell me if I am wrong, the price seemed a little much for a 91 no matter how nice and well looked after. I just missed one in as good a condition last September which went for £2000

    This brings me to the next question... I remember there used to be a parkers guide for older cars which doesent seem to exist now. Does anyone know of a replacement or even better, a fair way to value the older LS400's

  8. Hi all,

    Ive been unsucessfully searching for a LS400 for almost a year. For the money I want to spend, a 91-93 model is probably going to be around the mark. There is usually very little if any to choose from in N. Ireland so I have resigned myself to taking a flight followed by a ferry trip home.

    Ive been looking at e-bay over the last couple of months and the occasional car looks promising, I just cant yet bring myself to click BID on a car I havent seen or driven.

    Has anyone on the forum had any car buying e-bay experiences or any suggestions for getting my hands on a worthy LS400
