Whichever is the cheapest option for CarPlay to be possible. You will never ever use built in Nav if you can use the live traffic info and up to date mapping with the likes of Waze.

The Mark Levinson system on our 2015 is OK, nothing to get mega excited over. Part of the problem I think is more the lack of physical space in the IS so the sound staging never sounds right.
The Mark Levinson system on a RX loaner was much better, and again in our SUV the sound staging is just better as there is more space.
I get the feeling the Mark Levinson system in the IS is like a home HiFi system setup in a box room, it doesn't matter how good the speakers are if you haven't got the physical space to work with it never sounds quite right.
Makes sense. I have been toying between IS and NX. Sound isn’t a super critical thing for me but it definitely pushes me more towards NX after reading more about it. -
The sub hole has a blanking plate fitted. I was also hoping that there would be a wiring loom sitting there ready to go but no... The parcel shelf is fixed and cannot be removed! I found out the hard way. Also the shelf isnt flat and has various ridges and holes.

So what did you do in the end, just put it back as it was and leave it or did you route a loom?

if you have the premium nav you have an 8 speaker setup including a sub on the parcel shelf
so there should be a location for a sub without having to cut a hole ,i think the hole is for an 8" sub
It’s weird because every single advert I’ve seen for a used IS300h has mentioned 6 speakers (or ML). I’m not sure if it’s just that nobody bothers with the premium nav in the UK or the listings are incorrect in regard to the speaker quantity.
If it is a 6 speaker setup, is the hole in the parcel shelf still there but blanked off or is it a different shelf without the hole do you know?
Thanks -
What are people’s thoughts on the standard 6 speaker system in the IS300h, I have heard mixed reviews that they are pretty poor for a luxury car. I don’t want power but I definitely want good clarity. What are the upgrade options if they aren’t great?
Thanks

Hi
When I was buying my GS with LED headlamps I've read somewhere they should last at least of 50000h. That is almost 6 years of being constant on.
Even if you assume you drive with light always on (valid for daylights) and let say use you car 4h per day that would give you almost 36 years before failure - I would say plenty of time.
Of course they can fail earlier as everything but I wouldn't be worried too much that suddenly all 10 years old cars will need new headlamps.
Hadn’t thought of it like that. Maybe I can cope with 36 years of life.

but might that really cover fair wear and tear as in, bulbs don't last forever .............. what's the expected life of such a bulb I wonder and the ease of the warranty insurance company NOT paying out for a replacement
Oh by the way, mine's about £4.50 and a 5 min job AND is sufficient for driving for both the driver and others on the road too methinks ...... going onto main beam where necessary, or is that just too old fashioned and challenging to do
Malc
I would MUCH rather have replaceable bulbs but I think those LED units are completely sealed. Frustrating as I want some of the other premier features but would happily do without the LED headlights it comes with

More and more I think I'd only buy either something pre-06 or something brand new with a cast iron warranty and get rid before it ends. Nothing in between.
Well I hadn’t planned on buying an extended warranty but with prices like that then maybe I should!

I'm assuming that the IS will be the same as the RX in that individual LEDs are not replaceable and are a sealed unit at over £800 each.
Oh dear. Is it something that commonly fails do you know?

Has anyone ever had an issue with their LED headlights? I worry that if any of them break it would be extortionate to repair?
I’m looking at buying a 15 Reg ideally with the premier pack but I worry about options that could end up being a ridiculous price if you can’t fix them yourself. Anyone know what the repair cost of them is?
Thanks

I had an odd experience last night. A 19 reg 3 series jumped the lights I was waiting at, and then cut up another driver at the next roundabout. But, and here's the thing - it did indicate to show which way it was going. I was stunned.
Yeah that’s allowed... they only have to be one type of considerate at once.

Teamaker,
Your initial thread entry stated that you had read all about Lexus, you did not say that you had driven any.
Many people who say they want one subsequently form the view that
1. They do not have the street cred of an Audi or BMW (if that is what you want)
2. The ECVT box is unlike any conventional gearbox
3. They defy convention
4. The infotainment systems are not at the forefront of technology.
5. It is for older drivers.
and I thought that you should experience for yourself, rather than just read all about them.
Do let us all know of your decision whatever you do.
1. I want the opposite, I like how understated they are. Quiet quality over street cred any day.
2. I’m fine with the ECVT. Read bad things on the reviews but didn’t see the issue myself
3. That’s okay.
4. Yeah that worries me the most, I’m just hoping I can live with it or add the CarPlay option by installing a vLine box.
5. Not bothered. I don’t see the IS as an old persons car at all.
My only other concern is I’ve read that the drivers seat bolster gets badly worn quite quickly which isn’t good. For such an expensive car that will annoy me.

For me:
6. It isn't an Audi, BMW or Mercedes....
Not interested at all in a Mercedes and I want Indicators so BMW is out. To be honest I’ve gone off German cars recently after reading about the reliability of Toyota and Lexus. I’ve run my car into the ground and it’s always been bomb proof so I took it for granted but recently it’s started playing up (hence the new car hunt) and reliability and build quality is a massive thing for me. -
I've got the 6 speaker system in my IS300h. I had the Mark Levinson system in my IS250 so it's a bit of a come down. It's good enough though - better than many other systems I've experienced.
The ML system would be the dream but I have seen very few come up in the age and price range I’m looking at. I also haven’t seen any of the 8 speaker system at all! I guess most people aren’t paying for that upgrade

OP possibly says this because some people don't get on with the ECVT gear system - let's face it the motoring press are always critical for some unknown reason.
I don’t mind the CVT at all, I got in to drive one expecting it to be bad after what I read but I just didn’t get it. I quite like the idea.

Welcome teamaker.
Have you driven one yet, as they are not everyone`s cup of tea---if you forgive the pun !
I have briefly driven both a GS and two IS’. I liked them but I’d be interested to know why you say that...

Hi everyone,
I’ve been lurking here for a while reading all about Lexus’ and I am now decided that I’m going to buy one.
I just thought I would ask for some advice on anything I should think about or watch out for as I search for the right one.
I am hoping to get a face lifted IS300H so 2017 onwards, ideally in the Advance trim.
There are a couple of things I’m worried/ thinking about, if would be great to get your thoughts alongside anything else you think is worth mentioning?
1. Speaker quality, almost all the ones I’ve looked at have the 6 speaker arrangement, what’s the quality like? I’ve heard mixed reviews... is there anything I could do to improve it?
2. apple CarPlay is quite a big deal for me, not enough to pick another car but enough to try and implement it properly with a third party solution... I’m interested in the vLine2 system from GROM which from research seems to be the best? Has anyone installed this into their Lexus and if so could I fire some questions at you?
Thanks a lot, I look forward to contributing more when I’m fully in the club!
Nav option or use Apple Car Play - help me decide!

I can’t find the article now but a friend who just bought an NX was told by the dealer that an update was coming May 2020 to add CarPlay functionality to their car. The UX will likely be the same as CarPlay is a listed feature of the 2019 UX
