I have now had my IS300H since April. Love almost everything about the car except for one small annoyance.

I can hear a tinny rattle from under the bonnet. On further inspection I have found the metallic heat shield over the exhaust manifold to be the culprit.

All the fixing bolts are tight but still the item moves about. I wonder if there should be some sort of fibre washers under the bolts to absorb any vibration.

Mentioned it yesterday when it was in for its annual service and first MOT. Lexus tech said it was normal !!!  Seems a little odd that a quality product like Lexus would skimp on something so simple. That or the tech didn't want to touch it. Has anyone else seen this on their car?

Apologies if this has been discussed previously, but I cannot find any mention.

I have the same problem but mine doesnt rattle yet lol. The bolts are tight but the heat shield moves quite freely. Is it not just the case of untightening the two top bolts, adding a normal steel washer and tightening up?? hence the extra tension will then hold it in place?

Maybe its suppose to be loose, it might tighten up when it gets hot due to it expanding? I dont know.

Am I missing something - I swear I read that you took the BMW to the dealership and they didnt change the brake fluid? Or did I just imagine it because I honestly cant find it anywhere!

The other thing to remember is the goodwill side of things. I had an issue with the IS300h where the head unit died following a battery change. I followed the procedure to a tee but they said the radio went and everything goes through it on the earlier IS models. £4K repair bill for the head unit. Lexus Parts Direct quoted me £2800+ for the part alone. The car had a full service history and relatively low miles and Lexus UK fixed the problem and warranted it for £500.

I suppose you pay your money, make your choices but its always handy to have a FLSH if something does manage to go POP, even if it is your fault!

Sorry may be I should of been clearer on things, Yes I totally agree if your cars still under warranty then sure you should obviously use the stealer for any outstanding and future issues while you can. My opinion only relates to servicing a car out of warranty. As I still buy the sevice packs direct from lexus but use a good knowledgable independant to look after my car.

  3. I bought a Lexus IS300H back in January on a 15plate and no it wasnt from a main dealer but full main dealer history and Battery health check. Is that a good thing.....Im not so sure. Personally I would never get my car serviced at a main dealer and wont with this one. Their are plenty of specialist garages out their who probably employ ex what ever dealer technitions who will probably make a better job and do over your car as they appreciate the business. All I do is pay my 60 pound a year to Lexus to look after the Battery and service it at a specialist!. Enough said 60k service at main dealer wanted 650 pound. Done at specialist using service pack from Lexus 220 pound!

At least I am not alone with this issue.

My 2013, 46k mile, is300h is behaving in the exact same way - also seems to be coming from the front left wheel and like Ken has said it is very annoying.

I can hear the sound when I am driving along the motorway at 70mph, just have to pass another vehicle and the sound is reflected back from the vehicle I am passing.

Other than this issue I cannot fault the car at all, it is my first Lexus and I would like to think I will continue to stay loyal to the Lexus brand.

My car is due a service next week at Lexus, let's see what they have to say about this. Will Lexus Relax cover this issue in the future?

Mines more of a catching squeek, like it does it every rotation of the wheel and the quicker you go the quicker the squeek until it disapears at speed. Which as some said could be catching breaks or hand break. But havent tried the hard breaking yet but will do and see if it does the trick.

I'm sorry to say over the 2 years mine has got progressively worse. The fact you see it on a let turn too is really strange. There must be some inherent defect. They changed both my front calipers but the problem persists so unless it was one of the back ones I'm not sure how much difference adjusting it will make. The good thing for you though is that if I find a solution, it should also work for you. Lets hope its a simple one :-S

Thanks Ken, Likewise if I manage to stop mine I will Keep you informed!!

  6. I Have a 2015 IS300H with the same sort of squeeking behaviour. Its only just recently started and to be fair isnt that bad. I only hear it when using EV mode at slow mph and yes it seems to do it more when I turn left. Normal driving I dont hear anything and nothing when breaking.

I was just wondering if one of the pads was scuffing or may be a caliper needs adjusting. Never the less its not in your league, just hope it doesnt develop into it though!!

I think the standard nav system has MirrorLink functionality? It can be a bit hit/miss depending on the age of the vehicle and your phone.

Yeah it does, Ive got a 15plate Executive addition and my phones a 2020 Samsung S10 Lite Plus but I cant get the Mirrorlink on my infotainment system from being ungreyed out so I'm able to selectc it. Prehaps as you said my cars software may be too old or not compatable.

Ok so recently bought an is300h 14 privatley so no warranty, have this light come up when i turn parking sensors on, it says clean park sonar, any advice would be appreciated

I Have a IS300H, 15plate, and I have exactly the same issue. Sometimes it works for a couple of days, then it will come on again. It's nothing to do with dirty sensors I dont think, more likely a faulty one or water has got inside the connection. They are not cheap to buy from Lexus about 80 pound, but I managed to find an exact copy from a HongKong website for 20 pound delivered. I do have it now and its looks identical but yet to fit it! Might work, Might not! lol

  9. The S mode works better when you have the gear change in manual sport mode +/-.

By using the paddles it will hold the revs longer like a proper manual and uses both the petrol and electric engine together to make use of the full 220bhp and yes it does transform the car and makes it great for over taking!

Also using the ASR button turned on, turns on the fake engine sound into the cabin through the speaker under the dash which yes is a gimmick but can be fun if you like that sort of thing. I do.

It doesn’t have the same 0-60 as an A4 2.0T, a C250/C350, or a 328i. All of these are faster than an IS300H. It just depends what you’ve experienced.

For anyone coming to an IS300H for the first time, I maintain that they should test drive on as many different roads as possible to ensure that the car’s performance meets their needs. It’s not just about foot to the floor maximum acceleration. It’s also about how a car feels in the mid range at partial throttle settings. It’s also about whether a driver wants a linear feel between throttle position and performance. Each to their own but it doesn’t change my opinion - anyone looking to move to an IS300h should test drive as much as they can to ensure they’re happy with performance.

I love these cars, I’ve had two IS300H but I’m not blind to their short comings in terms of performance. I know a few people who have run higher end C Class and 3 series cars who have been abjectly disappointed by the performance of an IS300h on a test drive and walked out of a Lexus dealership never to return again. One guy I know very well, coming from a C350 CDI, returned his test IS300H and asked the sales guy why he’d buy a 220bhp car that had the performance of a 140bhp car. A bit harsh I thought but I could see where he was  coming from.

For a start put it against the cars its suppose to be at not a 328 bmw. Its rivals are c220d, bmw 320d and the audi 2.0d all for the company car buyers see the YouTube comparisons.

Linas. Keep out of threads of cars you haven't owned. Personally I'm sick and tired of your inputs which you have gained from research or copied and pasted.

The is300h isn't a performance car but it's performance in real life is excellent. Between the two I owned I had a 240bhp ford mondeo and yes it had 240bhp. I had it on a rolling road as I was intrigued why it pulled so well. It had a mild tune. Anyway my 2nd 300h felt as quick as the mondeo. Trick was to make sure traction battery had at least 50% charge. Sport mode activated. Pedal to the floor beyond the detant in its travel. I showed up many cars with that cars take up from a standing start and boy oh boy did I enjoy it. Brought a smile to my face each and every time.

Gary. I hope your reservation on that car is successful. You'll love it when you get it or one like it 👍

Well said...I totally agree and I own one!

  12. Here we go again on performance! Its not a slow car it has the same 0.60 as its rivals you may think its not as it obviously not as torquey as its turbo diesel rivals. No its not a performance car but its plentiful and will match its rivals. In sports mode only.

You all can say its slow but I've also owned c class, audi a4 and bmw 3 series all with 1.8-2.0d and it'll keep up no problem. Dont let people put you off.

Its got most of what most people want. Great car. Try it and coming from what you have previously you won't be disappointed.

  13. Hi Gary, like yourself I've owned various cars ranging from Mondeos to all of the german 3.

I bought a is300h 3 months ago. Going from previously owning a BMW 320d, I took the leap to lexus and its the best move I've ever made.

Mine to is a 2015 model with 50k on the clock. I opted for the Executive edition in Pearl White. Its a great spec example and has pretty much everything you'd need. I stayed away from the F Sport as the ride quality tends to ruin the experience for me anyway being too harsh.

My nearest dealer is 40 miles away which is no problem as its just another excuse to enjoy another ride out. Lol. Brilliant car you won't regret it if you want a top luxury quiet relaxing drive. Stick it in sport mode and its a completely different beast, will give you a lot quicker throttle response and probably leave a smile on your face!

I have just acquired an ex dealer demo is300h (UK 2020} in velvet black and I love it to bits. I used to own an IS250 Advance but unfortunately totalled it in a bad accident. I had an Audi A5 for 2 years and I am glad to be back with Lexus again. The Stoke Lexus dealership in my locality gave me a great deal and they have superb customer service, pre and post sale.

However, i miss several of the features that I used to have in my old car, including the reverse camera and keyless entry; in addition, the automatic folding wing mirrors which were on my old IS250 SE-L. My question to members is: does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the is300h’s “package” after market with official Lexus? E.g. upgrade to the the Comfort Pack or Premier Navigation? I am aware that most vehicles are built to order with these packages, but how difficult is it to alter or change one? Would it be the same price for the pack as though one was configuring a new vehicle?

Unfortunately I never saw the car in the flesh before buying from Lexus, as it was distance selling due to Covid (I only briefly looked at the pictures and spec, as I had confidence in buying from an official dealership)  I did not even realise it had boring manual seats. This I guess is not a huge issue as I am the only driver. But sometimes after a car valet or a routine service for example, it can be a pain to find the optimal driving position again.

One thing i would highly recommend is the Gen3 glass coating. It gives the car an immense dealership quality look and pretty much self cleansing. The beading on the ceramic glass coating is brilliant, and it repels most dirt daily grime. If you are buying a new Lexus, this is an option worth considering. Also, does anyone have any experience with using Lexus Smart Insurance? It looks nice and easy on the promotional material, but has anyway had any good or bad experiences with them?

    Thanks for reading.

    Steven.

I was under the impression that keyless entry was standard on all is300h's. Try holding down the unlock button on remote for a few seconds. As I'm sure this activated my keyless entry.
